It is a bad beginner bike tho, displacement wise it’s fine, if a bit big. But that bike specifically is expensive, hard to repair and crucially for beginners, has a very tricky clutch and throttle

An MT-07, Z650, SV650 would all be better choices in that displacement range

I personally see no problem starting on a 650 as long as you stay away from the damn super sports

and their v-twins use a special kind of valve which is very expensive and hard to maintain

So at some point, its potentially a decent beginner bike, displacement wise, along with its weight and size.. Like even as a beginner it’s not normal to drop your bike

When I did my courses, only 2 out the 20-30 riders drop their bikes in the 36 hours of riding we did and both where within the first 10 hours

Pay attention, learn how to lean and properly take corners (hint, lean and don’t be afraid to give gas to straighten yourself up) and pay attention to your surrounding and the road coming up, sand doesn’t magically move around and push riders off bikes

The FL5 is better in everyway than the FK8 in my opinion. I don't think the difference is worth 15k tho. If he can get a good deal on a FL5 than go for it. Otherwise, a FK8 would have to do.

FK8s are also bit high in value right now, and FL5s are just u buyable with their markups
