Yamaha did a better job for a fast scooter

fossil gulch
#

This is probably the closest thing to a scooter SUV

Oh my god

Hear me out

tulip bramble

wait I have a better thing for SUV scooter

#

Idk if its a scooter but hol on

sick pike
#

Also wtf ninja 400 cheaper than versys 300

tulip bramble
#

alright nvm

#

I imagined the Honda Goldwing with a scooter look

#

forgot that it looks more like a cruiser

tulip bramble

or a Z400

Benelli

fossil gulch
#

Ngl, didn’t realize benelli made things other than shotguns

sick pike
#

Wait what

tulip bramble
#

LOL

sick pike
#

Are they the same company or two companies with the same name

tulip bramble
#

They made bikes as a partner for their shotguns cheekytoto

sick pike
fossil gulch
#

They’re different

tulip bramble
#

I hope

tulip bramble
fossil gulch
#

Thé bike one is owned by some Chinese conglomerate

tulip bramble
#

Benelli’s quite great with giving out beginner bikes

sick pike
#

There are a few

tulip bramble
fossil gulch
#

Royal Enfield and CF moto exist and they make basically the same style of bike

sick pike
#

But I feel like with it being an uncommon brand parts are more expensive

tulip bramble
#

yepp

#

yeah parts would prolly be harder to come across

sick pike
#

I don't know if it being slow is gonna be a good or a bad thing

fossil gulch
#

I feel, like benelli would probably be easy to get parts for online

#

A verseys 300 is still gonna be slow

tulip bramble
#

why not get a 650 Vtol?

#

But iirc 650 Versys is quite pricey

#

and Kawi is the only mainstream bike brand I know of who makes adv bikes at the 600 range

sick pike
#

I don't like the looks of the 650 and above

tulip bramble
#

Ahh I see

fossil gulch
#

My dads trying to convince me to buy one for my next bike but I have my heart set on a tenere 700 or vstrom

sick pike
fossil gulch
#

Next summer…

tulip bramble
#

I’m 16 with no job

fossil gulch
sick pike
tulip bramble
#

even with a job, minimum wage is fucked here

sick pike
tulip bramble
#

so I’ll just wait till I graduate and get a stable job

fossil gulch
tulip bramble
fossil gulch
#

Partly joking but I’ll probably finance a new bike next summer once I’m out of uni

tulip bramble
#

I’d prefer not to be raided by the bank once every year

sick pike
#

Or or
I get a crf300🤔

tulip bramble
#

I’ll prolly do Marine Engineering

fossil gulch
tulip bramble
#

so I’ll do maritime shit in College

sick pike
#

Bit outta the budget

tulip bramble
#

but I’ll remain a basic fuck the next 2 years

tulip bramble
#

it’ll be worth it imo

#

also gives you time to look into more options

fossil gulch
tulip bramble
sick pike
#

Well it's not me buying the bike anyways but I still wanna set a budget

tulip bramble
#

Aeronautics was my first choice

sick pike
#

I don't wanna start off on a 500 too

tulip bramble
#

but yeah being a seaman seems more fun

sick pike
#

I think I wanna do something related to engineering as well

#

Probably mechanical

tulip bramble
#

but that means, If I get a bike, I’ll prolly be gone long enough to not ride it

fossil gulch
#

Mechanical is a pretty neat field Ngl

sick pike
#

I just want a job that pays well so I can finance the stupid shit I wanna do in life

tulip bramble
#

Does the Honda Rebel have the potatopotato sound?

#

same with the Kawi Vulcan?

sick pike
#

Thump?

fossil gulch
#

No but it has the potato look

sick pike
#

Kartoffel

tulip bramble
#

Oh man

fossil gulch
#

The Vulcan is such an absurd bike, it’s just a ninja engine jammed into a cruiser frame

tulip bramble
#

I was hooked with the Rebel and the Vulcan with the expecations of the V2 sound

fossil gulch
#

Rebels an amazing starter bike tho

sick pike
#

I've seen a Vulcan once I think

tulip bramble
#

Yupp

sick pike
#

It looked like a Harley but it had Kawi badging

fossil gulch
#

Its actually the first bike I ever rode

#

If you’re tall tho they can kinda suck since the clutch cover sticks out of the frame and forces your knee at an angle

sick pike
#

Good thing I'm vertically challenged

fossil gulch
#

Looks kinda good with crash bars Ngl

sick pike
#

Thinking of putting engine guards when I get a bike

fossil gulch
#

Depends on the bike

#

Some of them you’re better off getting frame guards/axel sliders…

#

Or full on crash bars if you go verseys

sick pike
#

Givi ones are cheaper than OEM

OEM accessories are expensive

Ngl, thé students at my uni have a pretty good taste in bikes

#

There’s typically a few more R6’s and ninja 650-1000’s

#

Because people here think those are perfect starter bikes lmao

#

*ignore that I was gonna buy a 650 if all the ones in my budget weren’t clapped out to oblivion

cyan wind
#

i'd probs take the cbx myself

cyan wind
fossil gulch
#

The problem with 1000’s is that they let you get into trouble way too easily

#

But if you’re a good boy that Obeys the law

cyan wind
#

yeah and that comes down to a big if, if you can handle a 650 off the bat then yeah for sure

fossil gulch
#

I’d honestly prefer a ninja 1000 or any of the other sport/sport touring bikes over a 650cc super sport

almost like if the CBT was an actual license and competently taught riders it'd make new riders a bit safer, but that's just me awklando

fossil gulch
#

Verseys 400 perhaps 🤔

cyan wind
#

hmmm

#

hopefully an A2 compliant one

#

considering the power of the new ninja 400, hopefully that will continue if they move to a versys

#

but tbf, they have a 650 versys that's '22 new, so i imagine not

#

but 16 models? i fuckin hope they don't miss the versys lol

#

inb4 a versys 125 schumi

#

honestly between that or they revive the 125 varadero i'd be happy

fossil gulch
#

It’s probably gonna be a bunch of Euro5 compilant versions of existing bikes, a bunch of new dual sports and probably a bunch of naked bikes that are exactly the same as what they have now but with different fairing s

cyan wind
#

yeah exactly lmao

#

maybe euro5 for some way older bikes considering that shit came out in like '09, but maybe more a2 or 125 bikes?

#

tbf idk wtf they'd make 125cc

#

they've got the z series and the ninja, that's all people care about

fossil gulch
cyan wind
#

yeah that wouldn't surprise me

#

hope so it's a nice bike

fossil gulch
#

H2 powered Vulcan would be hilarious

cyan wind
#

that'd be beautiful

#

are they high making these prices

fossil gulch
#

The side bags are 2.5K CAD

#

Or half of the price of my ninja 400

cyan wind
#

they're joking right? right?

#

oh the exhaust is the bulk price

#

a grand for a slip on

#

you could probs get the same shit from oxford for about 250

fossil gulch
#

Welcome to the world of OEM accessories

#

I think my dad spent close to 5-10k on random accessories for his XR when he bought it

cyan wind
#

christ

#

I've got a handful of things I'll get and that's about it

fossil gulch
# cyan wind christ

He regularly goes on trips that are twice or more the equivalent of going from northern most Scotland to the southernmost point of England so he wanted to be as comfy as possible lmao

#

Mofo has heated grips which I’m hella jealous of

cyan wind
#

my dads got that too, I can't imagine how nice they are

cyan wind
#

really for a varadero I'd probs just get stuff like heated grips, phone mount, extended windshield and maybe just some panniers if im feeling like I want to spend money

#

most of it will probably just come down to what I think I'll need when actually riding it

granite bison
cyan wind
#

it definitely is lmfao

granite bison
#

I could in theory apply to get a license for a scooter when i go to france (i go see my family sometimes in france and the region my grandparents live in let people from 14 drive 50cc bikes i believe)

fossil gulch
cyan wind
#

yeah for sure

#

it depends on my situation when I'm 19 really, a2 is like a grand then another bike is like 3-4k so I imagine I'll have it till I'm 20 maybe

fossil gulch
#

Like heated grips, carbon bits, seat cowls, panniers (to an extent) start adding up and don’t add any value when you sell (they actually typically decrease value)

cyan wind
#

yeah that's why I'd keep stock shit on standby

#

it's not for everyone what I purchase

fossil gulch
#

There’s about a grand of crap I’d like to add to my ninja 400 Rn but that 1k is 10% of what I need to end the season on a 1000SX

cyan wind
#

For sure

#

I'll probs just do a phone mount, higher windscreen and frame sliders for when I inevitably dropnit

granite bison
#

Me listening to this conversation rn because this is actual valid advice i might need to take into account if i ever get a bike

cyan wind
#

lmfao feel free

granite bison
cyan wind
#

it usually like 4 (vase, me, zeŕo and estebussin) of us just rambling, any questions feel free

fossil gulch
#

Or use thé money saved to buy better/duplicates of gear (2 pairs of gloves is a really good idea, wet hands suck ass)

fossil gulch
cyan wind
#

este has one

fossil gulch
#

Is he the one with the RC390?

cyan wind
#

401 svartpilen iirc

#

or he started on their 125 variation

fossil gulch
#

Oh, what ever happened to the RC390 guy from SA

cyan wind
#

@pseudo gull what do you ride nowadays?

cyan wind
#

not richa sorry, revit

cyan wind
#

if you can go for something bigger to start on persay like a 300, that'd probably work better in your favour

granite bison
#

Its a very popular thing in the aquitaine region to get a scooter instead of a bicycle

#

You dont see many real bikes even among adultswillmao

cyan wind
#

i imagine you're somewhere in Italy?

granite bison
#

No i visit france for the holidays

#

And in the UK, where i live its basically the oppposite

#

No scooters

cyan wind
#

oh you're england aswell

#

you're the third one here who's british

granite bison
#

My family is all french but they moved to england

fossil gulch
cyan wind
#

genuinely lmfao

#

exist are you old enough for an a2 license?

granite bison
#

15 so prolly nope

#

Bikes are cool tho so i like just sitting down and watching people ramble about them

cyan wind
#

yeah you'll have to wait till your 17 sadly for a 125, but don't worry you've got plenty of time to learn if you do choose to get a bike

#

i started liking bikes when I was like 13, so it's been a long time lmao

granite bison
#

If you drive like an idiot with no suit or helmet then yes

#

It is

twin belfry
#

I used to dislike bikes a lot, but over time, I gradually loved them more and more.

granite bison
#

Used to be neutral but idk where this new interest came from either

twin belfry
#

Also, the best thing out of everything I discovered when it came to bikes was the 500cc era in MotoGP. I was so interested, I just wanted to look into it more and more

cyan wind
twin belfry
cyan wind
#

Don't get me wrong biking is a super dangerous thing to do, but there's measure you can do to lower it.

granite bison
cyan wind
fossil gulch
granite bison
#

But like, if you’re responsible and wear the right gear i dont see what to be concerned about

cyan wind
#

That last line is extremely true

twin belfry
cyan wind
#

Exactly

granite bison
#

Unless you live in a country where car-ens are determined to run you over in their kia sportages, but there aren’t many in the uk and especially not in the part of france i visit

cyan wind
#

It's quite a diverse sport and you really dunno who can win, even pecco said that

#

Well around that

twin belfry
cyan wind
#

Oh yeah to watch before 2019 it was pretty bad

fossil gulch
cyan wind
#

But for the past like 3 years it's been different people

cyan wind
#

Quat, rins and pecco

#

Not rins its mir I mean

fossil gulch
granite bison
#

I’m having a conversation about something i dont even drive since 3am, its now 4:10 and i should get sleep but no

#

cyan wind
#

Yeah I said I should sleep about like 2hrs ago

granite bison
#

Real

#

Elioposting on main, feel free to use i found it online anyway

#

I just like elio

#

Also that kinda looks like a bike helmet

#

With the vents and stuff

fossil gulch
#

There’s a VFR800 near me for sale at a decent price…

#

Must resist

twin belfry
#

Oooh. VFR800's are cool

fossil gulch
#

It’s in really good shape too

#

It’s pretty fucking long tho

cyan wind
#

do it

fossil gulch
#

If I can find a cheaper apartment within the next week I shall probably

#

Since that’s my only roadblock

cyan wind
#

Hope you do dude

granite bison
#

How much of a bitch is insurance for bikes in the uk

cyan wind
#

Don't get me started

#

Got quoted like 2400

granite bison
#

wow

cyan wind
#

But that's without a frame number / plate, so I imagine it goes down

#

For a varadero the lowest I got was 1100

#

That's with a plate, but no call to any peoples

granite bison
#

Idrk if thats good or not idek about insurance lol

#

Was asking in a general sense

fossil gulch
cyan wind
#

For first bike 1000 is probably what you'll have to pay

#

After that it can go up or down depending on the cc on your a2 license

granite bison
cyan wind
#

2400 is criminal prices though

cyan wind
fossil gulch
#

For the UK, idk

cyan wind
#

BikeSure is where you want to go for insurance

granite bison
cyan wind
#

Heard they're decent and i got recommended when I was finishing off my lessons

granite bison
#

I’ll keep a note of that somewhere

cyan wind
fossil gulch
#

I could actually afford to keep my 400 with this one…

cyan wind
#

There's a great top gear episode and one quote I'll always remember is "so with that quote, you think I'm going to write of my car 3 times in a year?"

fossil gulch
#

But I also wanna live into my 30’s

#

Vehicle insurance can be such a scam sometimes

cyan wind
fossil gulch
#

You really have to shop around since rates can vary absurdly

cyan wind
#

Has it been sitting or used quite a bit?

cyan wind
#

Also, limited miles each month? The fuck?

granite bison
cyan wind
#

Like some dude in ot gen got a blackbox insurance or whatever and he has limited miles on it

granite bison
#

Ain no way thats a thing fr

fossil gulch
#

also check with your parents because sometimes you can sneak onto their policies for cheap

cyan wind
#

Yeah I might see to that with my dad

fossil gulch
cyan wind
granite bison
cyan wind
#

Probs low prices to make it look sane

cyan wind
#

Let me fuckin drive at a fixed rate

fossil gulch
#

Because the risk of accidents rises after 10pm, it’s all about saving money

#

You can get fixed rate but it’s more per month

#

Variable rate policies usually have that kind of shit

#

Or require you to plug in sensors that track acceleration, braking …

cyan wind
#

Yeah you can fuck right off with that

granite bison
#

Wow bruh

cyan wind
#

I'd rather pay premium than be telemetried

granite bison
#

Oh look the sun’s rising

fossil gulch
#

Some times it’s worth it if you don’t drive much cause you’ll end up saving over 20% cause the car sits all the time but if you drive frequently it’s rarely worth it

cyan wind
#

Yeah literally

#

I'm glad blackboxes are never gonna be thing on bikes

fossil gulch
#

Like I’m looking at switching to one for my car cause I haven’t even done one tank of gas since I got my bike

cyan wind
granite bison
#

I’m meant to go out to see family today too😬

Least i can sleep on the car ride i guess

cyan wind
cyan wind
fossil gulch
granite bison

In the month I’ve had my bike I’ve done 3000 kilometers for context

#

It’s like 11am the next day for you guys, y’all should get some sleep lmao

granite bison
#

Naw i can live off of less than average hours of sleep

#

I went to sleep at a healthy time

#

Finally

cyan wind
granite bison
#

Yeah i go to sleep at 9-10 but i can live with it

#

Feels good being up early tbf

cyan wind
granite bison

Think i’ll get my brekkie innit a bit earlier than usual cuz im bored as fuck

cyan wind

Maybe one day my opinion will change, but not today lol

#

Anyway I'm off to bed

twin belfry

cyan wind

granite bison
twin belfry
#

I’m still gonna be up for another couple of hours anyway

granite bison

I’ll go offline, need to rest a bit

Idk about sleeping anymore, not enough time. Im a heavy sleeper but man it takes some time to go to sleep

I’m a sleeping tank

cyan wind

A1 at 17 is just a 125cc with no L plates and you can go on motorways

A2 is up to something like 47hp but you can restrict bikes up to 90hp if you wish to do so, or you can just like a 300

Then full A is you can ride anything, that's at like 21 if you hold your a2 license for 2 years

(Circled in green): Are those Magnetti Marelli coil resistors? Ignition coils?

#

And why are there only 4 of them? In a V12

fossil gulch

Most old cars only have 1 coil with the spark being sent to the correct cylinder by the distributor (hence why in old car restoration videos you’ll see people rotate the distributor to change the timing)

#

As to why Ferrari choose to do things that way, maybe ask #F1 |technical

My uneducated guess would be a mix of old electrical components not liking huge current and good ol Italian engineering

Bit pricy tho

2-3k more here than an MT-07 or Z650

Don’t understand why so many of Honda’s motorcycles are so pricy compared to competitors

cyan wind

how much do they go for?

fossil gulch
#

11k CAD

cyan wind
#

yeah that's way overpriced

fossil gulch
#

Both the MT and Z are in the 9K range

#

All their 500’s are priced like 650’s and their 650’s are priced like 1000’s

Thé R7 and thé CBR500R are exactly the same price

Not the baby firebird, their ninja 400 competitor

fuck I forgot the word

#

I just woke up

#

oh electronics

cyan wind
#

sorry i've had a meltdown writing that

fossil gulch
#

Is it really a different experience tho

cyan wind
#

i mean like an mt is a naked and so is the z650

fossil gulch
#

It’s still in the same category for top speed, torque and acceleration if I’m not mistaken

tulip bramble
#

I forgot that theres also a sport version of the 650

#

so disregard what I said about “new experience”, honda also does the same stuff

fossil gulch
#

Also, new experience doesn’t always mean better

tulip bramble
#

yeah

fossil gulch
#

A KLR650 is unique from all the rest of the ADV bikes but I don’t think a single person would claim it’s a better riding experience than a tenere, that ktm ADV or a GS750

cyan wind
#

if the honda had a better design to ensure the bike will have a better experience than i guess a bigger price is warranted, but it's like the trio of 600/650 bikes and doesn't really add much difference

fossil gulch
#

The problem is that everyone and their nan has a 650 naked on the market and the Honda doesn’t do anything remarkable to justify charging more than the others. It’s just a good solid reliable bike

tulip bramble
#

I guess what I’m trying to say is, Honda made something different from the other 650 competitors, giving it an i4 engine, which most 650 nakeds dont have.

#

Like comparing an Ecoboost Mustang with the 5.0 one, they look the same, and prolly feels the same if it werent for the engine

fossil gulch
#

Like a 5.0 would be versus an eco boost

tulip bramble
#

Only thing to offer is its sound willmao

fossil gulch

It does sound good

#

And it’s insanely reliable

tulip bramble
#

yepp

fossil gulch

But it’s a Japanese 650 naked, there’s basically nothing to go wrong

#

I'm really glad all the school here teach on Rebel 500's, CB500R's or Boulevard 800s

meh i have found it helpful

fossil gulch

Thats counter steering

cyan wind

💀

#

i'm tired sorry

fossil gulch
#

Counter balance you lean opposite the bike

cyan wind
#

yeah i've not been told much about counter balancing

#

it's mainly on slow stuff like figure of 8's was when they said about it

fossil gulch
#

But theres not really a need when the bike is 100 pounds

cyan wind
#

the cbf i was on is like 282

fossil gulch
#

learning counter steering on a small bike is perfect since you aren't learning at absurd speeds

cyan wind
#

for sure

cyan wind

so you don't feel like you're floating

fossil gulch
#

Yeah, the boulevard we had to learn on was 700lbs

cyan wind

cyan wind

fossil gulch
cyan wind
#

lots of extra weight lol

fossil gulch
#

You'll appreciate it tho when you're next to lorries or in heavy winds

cyan wind
#

it's a pro and a con, obvs it'll feel like a bigger bike and at high speed it'll hold it's ground, but then it's also heavy

#

but apparently it can sit at 70mph happily, which doesn't sound right

cyan wind
#

reading off what someone said it doesn't appear to be happy

fossil gulch
#

Because it will probably do that in 6th below the red line but I don't think its a happy experience

cyan wind
#

iirc they said it does it at like 11k rpm

fossil gulch
#

Like my 400 can technically go 180km/h+ but I've pushed it to 160 and its just not fun

#

You're just getting deafened

cyan wind
#

for sure

#

between that and wrist fatigue i'll keep to lower speeds

fossil gulch
#

I don't think I've really gotten wrist fatigue much outside of 8 hour+ riding days

#

My legs start giving out first

cyan wind
#

maybe my definition is wrong, but when i wake up my wrists hurt like fuck

fossil gulch
#

Tucked riding positions aren't ment for that

cyan wind
#

my ass and shoulders hurt around the same time as my wrist

fossil gulch
#

I got that when I was learning to use the clutch properly but not really since

cyan wind
#

maybe i'm gripping too hard iudk

fossil gulch
#

But I usually just cruise at 70-90 so theres not much wrist mouvement

#

If you are accel/decell alot that might get painful faster

cyan wind
#

yeah that's usually what it is

fossil gulch
#

But check your riding position, maybe you are keeping your arms too low or high

cyan wind
#

usually i end up accidentally slouching, but i try to keep my back straight and keep my grip wide

#

that's what i like about my dad's new versys, sat on it and there's zero space to slouch and it's great

fossil gulch
#

Also Bar risers can help alot with that

cyan wind
#

yeah you can kinda see they're quite low and impacting on the wrist

#

where say a varadero is alot more rised, so i imagine i'll have less of that issue

fossil gulch
#

Probably, the CBF seems to put you alot closer to the controls too

cyan wind
#

yeah it feels like my old bicycle

#

just way too small overall

#

i imagine when i get a varadero it'll be a lot more spaced out, i hope so anyway

fossil gulch
#

No, stop it, get some help

cyan wind
#

fossil gulch
