Number one is Prost
From left to right, Prost is the second last
He just can’t hide in any group he is in, it’s always the nose and the hair
is that piquet? (the one with the 2 on their shirt)
No one has a number 2?
He’s the third person from left to right
I think his number is 2 but his arm is blocking half of it
Or his whatever
ah thanks
idk I just thought it looked like a 2
I shoulve just said what order he was in the pic like Murray did
I was initially split between Jacques Laffite and Derek Bell
lafitte is a good shout
Is Brundle in the picture though ?
Teddy Mayer?
ye
2 greats
😕 we lost him too soon
Bruce :D
what game?
Yup
It was laffite
hey i was right
is 4 tambay?
Number 4 is Giacomelli
Johnny Cecotto, Stefan Johansson, Nelson Piquet, Jacques Laffite, idk, Alain Prost, idk
fuck
Pretty close
Johnny Cecotto superfast DTM driver and world motorcycle champion
Got compared to John Surtees when he started F1. We all know the reasons why
Alliot
bruh
Lmao
whos 12
damn
I challenge you guys to find:
Best mustache in F1
It can be drivers or team managers, any year
Muy bien
Dude's got more lamb chops than a butcher
Yee Haw!!

Danny is the most American f1 driver despite being Australian
I guess Australia is basically just the texas of the world
It’s massive, lots of dry big areas, cities are spread out, lots of wildlife, hot most of the time, ocean access, and the people
remenber crasch
!!!
XD
English is hard ok?
sure
Peter Brock drove on the road
😈
😈
I dont, explain please
in Australia in 1995 Mikas car slightly flew off the kerb but hit the wall at over 200g
same
Hakkinen nearly died on the track
fuck
damn
Ayrton Senna trailing Roland Ratzenberger | Qualifying, San Marino 1994
he spun and hit the kerb?
i think i found it on yt
he spun and slightly flew off the kerb
Prof. Sid Watkins performed a trackside traceotomy iirc
but there was a lot of momentum when he spun off the kerb
so he hit the wall at over 200g
Ratzenberger died later that Qualifying Session
Senna died the next day
Hakkinen after his accident
Underrated Season: Clay Regazzoni 1970
Despite not racing for virtually the first half of the year he scored 33 points in the 7 races he finished
and ended 3rd in the standings
I literally searched for Graham Hill in the search box and this is one of the things I find
s-scary
thaese dudes lived for less than 1 day after this photo
ohh..
I know there is a picture of Roland after his fatal crash without his helmet on
It’s very disturbing
That wasn’t his crash
That’s not his helmet
Must be someone else
See
Different air intake too. Idk if that was 1994 lmao
hmm ok
ok that's Montermini
who's still very much alive
the airbox looks to be a tribute to Roland, with the austrian flag all around it instead of just red
Fangio Driving Out Of His Mind To Catch The 15 Second Gap Between the Ferraris | 1957 Nurburgring
Context: Fangio won this race and clinched his 5th WDC (his 4th consecutive)
His performance in Germany is still regarded as one of the best drives in motorsport.
even he feels it's his finest race iirc
well he was racing like it was his last day so he probably did
think he was like a lap down after his puncture
No he didnt have a puncture
He had a 15 second lead over the Ferraris when he pitted
but his wheel nut fell under the car
the mechanics cost precious time trying to find it
but why did he pit
and left the pits 48seconds behind
because strategy?
"Fangio had taken notice of the tyre and fuel-level selection of the Ferrari drivers, and realized they were probably going to run the entire race without a pit stop. Fangio decided he would use softer tyres, and only a half tank of fuel. This would allow the car to take corners faster, but also require a pit stop. Fangio took his pit stop on lap 13, in first place, and 30 seconds ahead of Hawthorn and Collins."
he tried a different strategy to outsmart the Ferraris
alright
but unfortunate for him the pit stop was a disaster
but Fangio literally closed a 48 second lead by setting 9 record laps in the next 10 laps
you're getting a ban for that
What? I didn’t intend on anything bad. I just wanted to show the aftermath of his shunt at Adelaide.
Graphic Crashes:
- normal crashes = OK
- crash that involves non-visible injury = Spoilered otherwise warn
- crash that involves visible injury = Spoilered otherwise 7d mute
- crash that involves gory injury = Ban-worthy
- crash that involves death = Ban-worthy
shouldve just spoilered it
I’m sorry for not knowing the rules behind that
read #rules
yeah boys, be careful with crashes even here
Yeah okay
Yeah this is where I come and hide when the rest of the server is a mess, don’t ruin it
Oh so girls can? Noted ty
there's no girls on the internet
👀

noo
Ok maybe I’ll stay a little bit
yay
it's ok she's blocked me now
lmao
who and when happned
1994 Barcelona GP Andrea Montermini crash
Pretty damn good looking for being slammed into a wall that hard
There is a photo of a crash in Watkins Glen where the driver was decapitated
Obviously ain't gonna send it here
Helmut Koinigg, 1974
Ya lucky guy for sure
Francois Cevert, 1973
both were decapitated if I remember
Cevert wasn’t decapitated as far as I can remember
Rush had depicted that one scene at Watkins Glen as a combination between Koinigg and Cevert’s death
Dead Tyrrell driver + Decapitated Driver
oof
Random fact but James Hunt has always performed well at Watkins GLen
he took 2nd in 1973, 3rd in 1974, won in 1976 and 1977
his worst performance at Watkins Glen was 7th in 1978
The time when he drove for Wolf
yeah
Underrated Season: Alan Jones 1979
Despite retiring 7 times he still managed to take the most wins of the season with 4 and finished 3rd
And went on to be WDC in 1980
you are right
it was even worse
"His car flipped upside down onto armco which resulted in his cockpit and thus his body to be teared in half."
The crash was so horrifying his teammate Jackie Stewart retired one race earlier than he intended
That'd be 1979, and he retired from the sports before the Glen
Excuse me???
Agree-
Totally out of topic but look at that south african flag
That was south africa’s flag during their apartheid era
bro this is my new wallpaper now
Sheeesh senna's a ladies man
Ron Dennis is holding the Brakes On Sign
I think they are called the lollipop man
14 world championship titles in that picture 👀
Wow
half comes from one man
I’m gonna get some hate from this i already know but the fact that Schumacher got 7 titles with pretty difficult competition shows just how incredible of a driver he was, hamilton is an amazing driver and he deserves titles but i feel like Schumacher just had so much more competition both car and driver-wise for his championships
Yeah
Schumacher faced Prost, Senna, Hill, Villeneuve, Häkkinen, Räikkönen, and Alonso over the course of 15 years
He even faced Coulthard
And ~~Montoya ~~
That in itself is an achievement on its own
facing coulthard is arguably his biggest achievement ever
Don’t forget him facing the GOATS: Pastor Maldonado, Taki Inoue, and Yuji Ide
🤣
Hamilton is a really really good driver but let’s be honest
A lot of that was from Mercedes being like holy hell dominant
yes
He still won title battles but Ferrari didn’t have a title fight basically in the second half of ‘17 and ‘18
But 2019 and 2020? 13/17 of the 2020 races were won by Mercedes
senses post-2001 comments
It’s actually 2002 now
also faced the tosser
2002 was 20 yrs ago 💀💀💀
Well ya lmao
💀
Hehe your welcome man
Seriously though, it’s a fucking gorgeous photo
I love the rough quality too. Gives it an aged look
Like it was taken with an older camera
Adds to the vibes
He had an easy stroll in 95, 2001, 2002, 2004
In 94 his biggest competition was Bernie and the FIA
3 of schumachers championships were competitive
2014 not really, 2017 and 2018 only the end
Jody and Gilles messing around
xD
lmao
In an alternate universe I hope this is real
if this is not allowed due to the rules and stuff ill definitely take it down i just wanted to send this as honor
everyone in the world hoped this
Very rare photo of Senna with a beard
It's was 1989 or 1990?
he looks completely like a different guy
1988
benetton just casually flipping in the background
lmao
given Benettons situation 1997 it isnt out of the ordinary
the usual
senna was considering going to cart after 1992
shouldve happened
he did a test with penske
yeah, thanks to his friend Emerson who drove for em
if only senna was alive
wonder what he would say of last season if he was still alive
he wouldve probably been an advisor for williams
maybe he wouldve been a fan of Max not sure
he died almost 30y ago, it would be hard to predict what he does
or most likely an advisor for honda
maybe he's the team boss of Senna F1 Team
he was really close to honda
he was
and then would probably be an advisor for Red Bull or ALpha Tauri
oi senna dont crash my car ok lol
one things for sure, if he was alive he could've guided Bruno to be a better driver
Bruno made it into F1 despite starting motorsports at 18
so imagine how much better he would've been
no he just did motorcycles
and then switched to single seater cars
his dad was the one who didnt do motorsports until really later
he made it to a Lotus seat by talking his way into it as a mechanic
and he was 29
Damon Hill started car racing aged 23
verstappen came in f1 at 17
and Valentino Rossi was still pretty quick in an F1 car
Rossi did extensive karting before Motorcycles iirc
ig
but before driving Graham Hill was a rower
his helmet is literally a nod to his old rowing club
which was also the helmet design Damon used
yes
but at the time Graham started racing, it wasn't really professional and focused on F1 as the end all be all
casually flipping 😂
Canada 1998 if I’m not mistaken
Jim Clark taking flight
nyoom
Man F1 cars have evolved
Yea
Went from cylinders to boxes to the ones we have today
yeah
it looks like a normal car of the time
Ferrari kept their weird spoon front wing for a long time
and making it longk for the venturi tunnels to work somewhat makes it weird imo
The 312t looked weird with it ngl
isn't the same for Mark Blundell?
I remember David Hobbs and Bob Varsha joking about how Japanese commentators would prounounce Brundle and Blundell the exact same way
I don’t remember which video I found them talking about it, though.
Haha 😂
Ligier js5 (1976)
Ensign N179 (1979)
Brabham BT34 (1971)
And this right here is the 1971 March 711
Ye that's Derek Daly
Yep
more ugly cars?
Actually I like the Ensign car
the March wasn't pretty, but it was efficient
Ronnie Peterson finished 2nd in the standings with that car
The ensign was actually a normal car without that ugly thing on the front
Yeah
https://youtu.be/MgkKIWiA35I found something you guys might like
Go to 40:36 🤩
nice strat
no those were the ridiculous looking airboxes
the ones ferrari and lotus had looked good
same case for tyrrell and mclaren
tall boi
they look odd now, that's for sure
but almost everyone in 74 and 75 had them, until they were forbidden in 76 for the 3rd or 4th race
and for once, i think it was mostly because they were quite disgracious
yeah for 2 seasons every team had some kind of goofy airbox
as goofy as it looks, I love it
Same
Well y'know why right?
Well... That was just all going into the enyin throttles so
But idk does this still look goofy?
more like iconic
yes that looks goofy
it looks like a rocket pod
prectical
but goofy
meanwhile
good looking intake
that being said, last year Alpine had a bit of a fat intake
I like the triangle design
When cars had high rear spoilers
"To decrease the effects of the dirty air coming off the car"
Essentially the ape brains of 60s engineers said "oh, clean air gives more downforce"
they just started fiddling with aerodynamics at the start of ‘68
but Lotus had it pretty good in 1969
Lol
Graham Hill in his Shadow DN1 | 1974 Race of Champions
Niki Lauda in his Ferrari 312B3-74 | 1974 Race of Champions
the early B3-74 looks ass with its thin airbox and the rollhoop not integrated into it
Lauda & Hunt, 1976 and 1977
... It does tho
this is because of these wings that the most versatile rule exists in the ruleset, no moveable aerodynamic device
They were alot of the time suspension mounted too, which is usually beneficial to tyre load
Almost like they're F1 cars
true, if the car holds in one piece after the finish line, it's too heavy
Jo Bonnier in his Porsche
Ronnie Peterson unfazed.
Lorenzo Bandini starting his last and final race | 1967 Monaco GP
Quite tragic, his wife commute suicide in 1987, 9 years after his death. Ronnie Peterson is probably the driver who actually deserved to win the WDC the most out of everyone.
Prost doesn’t even look stressed/focus, just like he’s on his way to work and is stuck in traffic or something
yeah just driving the kids to school yano

https://carandvintage.com/vintage-formula-1-wives-girls-70s/ some pretty lucky dudes!
Lmaooo
yeah but I doubt Ronnie could’ve won a wdc
considering if he stayed with lotus anyway
but if he managed to make a move to mclaren then probably
RIP Bandini, absolutely horrific that accident
as cool as that era of F1 was I'm glad that safety has taken precedent over the years
yeah poor guy suffered
he died of his injuries a few days later in hospital
yeah
horrible burns all over the body, it makes me wonder why they even wore anything if it would barely protect them. Crazy time
anyway
on a happy topic
2008 McLaren is the coolest looking car ever made
That would go in #f1-hq-photos-and-videos
Not considered a classic in this channel
But definitely looks cool
lol
Eh…
Wrong, this one is
6 tyres
(even if it was never used) it is the greatest
did people in the 70s have any sense of style
clearly no
lol
i like that livery
The 1983 Renault is one of the best, apart from the 2005 and 2006 Renaults
Damon Hill driving his dad's GH1
renault was a ticking time bomb
either you finish the race before the time runs out or you face the consequences
hes so young in that
All this time, I thought the RE40 was quite reliable. Should have read about it more. Also, I guess that’s why Ferrari won the 1983 WCC
It was said that the RE40 encountered turbo failures here and there
crazy is the new sexy amirite
It encountered about 4 turbo issues, and 4 other engine issues, and one driver mistake.
The RE50 was way more awful
And that driver error came from Prost at Zandvoort when he hit Piquet
Yup
Followed by the RE60
At least the RE50 looks nice
The RE60 wasn’t that bad
Only raced at 8 Grand Prix’s
Transmission and clutch issues that’s all
Including the race at the Nurburgring where 3 cars were entered.
Yeah that was the last time the re60 was entered I believe
Renault pretty much fell off after Prost and Arnoux left
but as an engine supplier they were god
Yup
Is that Prost
sure looks like him
A stunned Didier Pironi picks up Gilles Villeneuve's helmet and brings it back to the pits shortly after Villeneuve fatally crashes | 1982 Belgium
Ronnie Peterson | The Super Swede 1944 - 1978
Ronnie would have turned 78 next week
Yes sir
Fun Fact: Ayrton Senna never finished outside of the Top 5 in the standings except for his rookie year
Check where he qualified now
yeah it was pretty mobile but no match for the technologically advanced williams
williams literally scored twice as many points as mclaren did in 93
Senna still dominated
They weren't helped by Michael Andretti
Mika out qualified senna in his first GP
then he had a bad stretch of 8 races
and told senna he needed more balls
only the flying finn
Lol
And Senna didn't dominate anything in 93, except a few races here and there
Well he won more races than in 92
And he finished runner up
Against the powerful Williams
1993 was a success for him
1992 was disappointment for him
5 wins + 2 podiums and a pole position
Not bad
Agreed
93 is his best season I'd say
But he didn't dominate, he didn't even win the title
he should've been in the best condition of his career in 94 and 95
Well obviously he wouldn’t of won against Williams, they were far more advanced
And with Alain Prost, made it very difficult
I’m saying his 1993 season was better then his 1992 season.
He did lead the championship though in 1993 after Monaco I believe
yeah then
He retired 3 times from the 8, and got fourth about three times
I absolutely adore this car. It helps that it was driven by an absolute madman
That looks clapped
I'm now reading his biography from Gerald Donaldson and I can say that it's really great man
he sold his house while he had wife and kids
to buy a Formula Atlantic car
Gilles literally drove every day like his last
Thats 126CK
Gilles basically drove however he felt at the moment. He liked to have fun on the track, do an occasional powerslide. Drove completely by his feel. Its unfortunately not the way to win alot in F1. You need to be robotic and think about everything. F1 was his playground and its the reason why I appreciate him.
At the time you didn't need to do that
i have a question
to what year does the classic period span?
Oof rather i cant answear that. Im sorry.
Anything before 2002
oki thank you
1950-2002
yes no pre war race cars

Renault v Toleman. Keep in mind that Toleman later became the modern Renault works team, which is now Alpine
Nah Alfa Romeo used to be salba pretty sure
Don’t you mean Sauber?
the old ass 80s team not the current team
Longggg car
Ooh right
I can’t spell don’t mind me
When McLaren had a third spoiler on the airbox frame
1996 McLaren
Right?
Or maybe 95
idk why but it feels weird seeing a Marlboro McLaren livery on a high nosed f1 car
Belgian gp livery F399
this picture is 1996 'cause they have the Schumacher's helmet
DC borrowed one of Schumi's helmets during the 96 Monaco GP cuz his helmet fogged up
"before 2002"
- proceeds to post a gazilion images from 2002
Ayrton Senna, just having seen the crash of Roland Ratzenbergher | 1994 San Marino Grand Prix

how come?
idk he thinks they are slow

old f1 cars were marvels of their time
and that sound 🤤
heck some of them are even marvels by today’s time
the active suspension comes to mind immediately
Compared to now, they are
But speed isn't all that's important
see that's where I need to learn more, I have no idea what you're talking about
the Williams FW15C had active suspension
basically, the suspension could adapt to the track making it very quick around corners
in addition to a number of other technological innovations
that was an amazing one
such as push-to-pass, anti-lock brakes, traction control, CVT gearbox
it is probably the most sophisticated f1 car of all time
It didn't have the CVT, but it could have had it if the FIA didn't stop them
What's CVT
which one had CVT
Continuously variable transmission
or am I just misremembering
14B?
oh they didn’t actually use it ok
Ah
speeeeeeeeeeed
You have these on 50cc scooters
Ooh sounds interesting
tfw when a 50cc scooter has a more advanced gearbox than an f1 car /s
if you’re replying to me with an essay please turn the ping off
The problem is you have big losses of energy
Having him as 2nd driver not only hinders Alex’s progress ,i mean if perez does flop it has to be the worst decision in f1 in a while, but if he is at max’s pace which i doubt then it may be a ricciardo max situation which does not end up being beneficial. Red bull are still not near to fighting with constructors even with 2 max verstappens they wouldn't be able to beat Mercedes so to bring Perez in to improve from 2nd in constructors to 2nd in constructors is pointless. Even if Perez does thrive it isnt to beneficial as they are not fighting for anything and so they may as well try to improve a younger driver and prepare for 2022 wether that's in gastly or tsunoda or alex but an older driver I see as pointless.
Not only this but F1 fans are so reactive when perez doesn't do well everyone will slate him and want hulkenberg and no one will realise it's clearly the red bull.
I do also think that it’s unlucky and of course it's a sport but the fact that gasly kept his seat after alex was forced into an impossible job and that mazepin keeps his shows where the sport is going. I still think tsunoda should've been given one more year to stop the mistakes he makes and have alex in a car other than the red bull with gasly because let's be honest then we would have really known wether alex was up to it instead of the impossible red bull.
Regardless if Perez does adapt quickly then its an ok move but if he doesn't then instantly it hinders the whole situation so we will see but i honestly think he won't and it'll leave red bull in a bad situation with their 2nd driver etc.

hey guys, i found this in a textbook. what ferrari model is this? it might be from the mid-late 70s because of how it looks, but i might be wrong
either the Ferrari 312T4 or T5
but considering gilles has #12 its probably the 312T4
1979
T4
yeah never mattered the engine was so horrible that even the reigning champion didnt qualify in canada and retired from f1 for good
I don't think the engine was horrible, even if it was the problem
It was still the second most powerful and stupidly reliable
yeah the engine was powerful but it didnt suit the t5's bodywork and aero
a big engine that doesnt suit an already heavy chassis is a spell for disaster
the 93 were testing with CVT gearbox but got banned pretty early.
There is a video of it on YouTube somewhere
and williams never found a belt to handle 700+ hp all the time
so it just snapped everytime after 5 minutes
Also true
Idk if there were aero changes in the rega between 79 and 80
rumored to be seconds faster than the same car with a normal gearbox
F1 drivers in the 50s were built different
did farina even win anymore races after his 1950 title?
Idk
Jack Le Feet
some of the fastest drivers of the 80s and philippe alliot
Ah yeas Dwight Villeneuve
It was about two seconds faster at silverstone with David Coulthard as the driver I believe
I think he was the test driver unless it was Alain
“Team test driver David Coulthard drove the car on a wet July day at Pembrey in Wales.”
I mean it makes sense
yeah he was with ferrari a couple years
then retired in 1956
El Maestro at his home Grand Prix | 1957 Argentinian GP

The Ground Effect Front Wingless cars
So funny
Villeneuve was leading until he did what he did best: get on the grass and crash himself out like an idiot
its useless to be fast, if you crash every single race
He won like 6 races or so, so he knew how to finish races
he did redeem himself in the uswest grand prix but he was disqualified
and then after san marino he held a grudge against pironi
Yep
So turbo issue, crashed himself out, dsq, 2nd but grudge, and death.
That's the sad results of Gilles' last season, where he clearly had the car and team position to win
In 1979 he just had the car
yeah but he was the 2nd driver even though he was definitely on par with Scheckter
great
he was definitely the Senna prototype
knew the cars limits and always went beyond them
but Gilles did more mistakes than Senna
You can't go beyond the limits of a car
1994 Brazillian Grand Prix
Le Professeur
Just look at the pictures 🤩
Oui Oui
ive always like the look of the older mclarens/ferraris
they're pretty much iconic
scuderia coloni was the best team arguably
since we're speaking of Scuderias
Tell me this isnt amazing
It’s Gilles Villeneuve doing his thing. Why wouldn’t it be?
🤠wow much nice
Gilles makes me proud to be a Canadian
Same with Sidney Crosby lol
What about Celine Dion
NEEEEEAAAAARRRRRR
FAAAAARRRRR
WHEREEEEEVEEERRRR YOOOUUUUU AAAARRRREEEEEE 🎶
That’s it for me bye 👋

wait I'm offtopic
Cool pfp
So are we 💀
Although arguably titanic is a classic after all
.warn pogchup offtopic in #classic-motorsport
ah yes the Drift King of F1
him and Alonso are just oversteer kinda dudes
Me? You try to warn ME? 💪 🤜 💥 😡
please stay on topic mia
Well, there was a series for that… but it was short lived
Grand Prix Masters was a one-make motor racing series featuring retired Formula One drivers. The inaugural (and sole 2005) event, at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in South Africa, took place on 11–13 November, but the series folded after a two-race season in 2006.
ah
Well considering how in shape you have to be
And especially what specific muscles you gotta develop such as the neck which you don’t find in many other series save Indy…
I’m not sure how an actual race would work out?
I guess the best option for seeing F1 drivers competing against each other in an all star race would be the Race of Champions… which ended not too long ago (or sim racing)
Wait when you say all stars you still mean within F1
Jan Lammers racing for Theodore Racing, 1982 The OG #33
Nigel Mansell dominated in that
I think he had four wins for 6 or 7 races
Probably way off
I guess
ah Scheckter's absolutely dismal 1980 season
still on record the worst defending season for a reigning champion
only 2 points
and didn't even qualify in Canada
Poor Jody.
yeah he retired after 1980
And then came Pironi for the next two years.
then that damned guy overtook Gilles for the win in San Marino
we all know what happened next after Gilles never vowed to speak to Pironi ever again.

yeah unfortunately his pride ultimately came to kill him
Didier is holding Gilles' helmet from the crash in '82 Belgium
Gilles' helmet fell off his head and ultimately killed him
wdym the helmet killed him?
well Gilles died of severe neck and brain-stem injuries
just my opinion but if his helmet never fell off maybe he doesnt die?
but his inadequate seatbelts also caused it
I’m no expert but i don’t see how the helmet would’ve prevented a neck fracture tbh so seems to me like it would’ve happened the same way had it stayed on
Well no... His seat assembly just came away with him still in it while his car split, the seat wouldn't be stuck to him if seatbelts weren't thers
welp all we can do is keep imagining
but another tragic death was Jochen Rindt
Rindt had a habit of not doing all his belt so he could escape if there was a fire to avoid dying
but unfortunately that was the thing that killed him
I'm no expert but ig he should've practised unbelting himself instead of the other option
you saw how difficult it is to undo your belts
1976 Germany
and in Jochen's era which was the late 60s people like Jo Schlesser, Lorenzo Bandini, and some others died in a fiery crash
failed to unbelt themselves due to intricate seatbelt systems?
sure and also his personal reasoning
he wanted to escape quickly if he got into a crash
He didn’t consider the other options
yeah but his crash was also caused by inadequate brakes
and the crash barrier he crashed into wasn't properly installed
So ultimately Rindt slid under his belts and his throat got caught and died of severe throat injuries
yeah they only had a small consideration to improve the barriers back then
Congrats @mystic anchor, you're now on lap 5
this was the car he was running
the rare Lotus 72 without wings
Emerson actually ran this particular car a few days before to test it and crashed
but the madness of Colin Chapman perseveres
yeah but at the cost of his drivers
even his best and beloved drivers like Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Rindt, Emerson, they all wanted Chapman to somewhat improve the safety standards on the car
Chapman wanted to pursue performance more
aston martin used to be ok i guess
just like any other engineer nowadays
yeah but Chapman gave no shit about safety
I mean we like to think they have more consideration for safety now but honestly, do they, really?
that was the only thing i despised about him
An accident like Bianchi’s should never have happened
Really? Huh.
I do think yes
Or Hubert for that matter and then how long did it take them to change spa
That was silly
well the Lotuses were notorious for being pretty dangerous to drive
silly mistake from the trackside people
they were bullet fast
Loads of major changes were only brought in after deadly accidents happened that could’ve been easily prevented
definately
yeah sadly it takes a major crash to bring in major changes
So the lesson here is basically: Success comes at a cost.
Spa should have been changed way before what happened with Anthoine
And then we had Jeddah this year, like
but pay that cost too much and you risk your reputation
I find it outrageous tbh
agreed
i mean Jeddah was the fast daring circuit I've wanted in F1 again for a few years
but it just wont work out with how stupidly huge the cars are nowadays
To me, Jeddah was already a no show before the inaugural race was run, and it proved its worth. A silly incident with silly decision making from the stewards
and how narrow the track is
a bad combination
imo they need to make the cars smaller
like maybe around the size the early 2000s cars were
FIA: We could just go out of their way and notify both teams, but…. Eh, everything’ll buff out.
yeah and as much as an asshole Balestre was but atleast the FIA at his time was intimidating
for the most part the FIA now is a joke
Jeddah was disgraceful on so many levels
The only other F1 street circuit that is fast, flowing, and by far MUCH MUCH BETTER than Jeddah, is Adelaide.
That and Canada
and then there is baku - only 90 deg, other than old town but ye
Can’t forget about Baku
sg is also 90 but then u can get speed
sg looks beautiful too
Yeah
sg design is cool one of the noicest street circuits i've seen
the atmosphere there is humid too, increasing unpredictability
Well, it is in south east Asia after all
coastal + tropical so ye
yeah same as the surrounding countries, Indo, Malay, etc
yeah
sepang is noice ye
i wish they could go back to brands hatch
love the flow of it
I'd love to see that though, just need a major renovation of the circuit first
Man… today’s F1 at Sepang would probably be a treat.
yes
This year marks the 5th anniversary since F1 last raced in Sepang. And that was also during the time when sharkfins and T wings were last used, too.
and also marks the 5th anniversary since F1 last been fully open cockpit
just feels like yesterday i was introduced to f1
me too

im here
Jack and Bruce

First podium for Bruce McLaren aged just 21y 10m 19d on that 1959 British GP
It was stupidly young then
Bruce also kept the record for youngest race winner for 43y 8m 12d, being beaten by Fernando at Hungary 2003
(Bar Indianapolis winners)
When you just push your car over the finish;
During the 1959 US Grand Prix, Jack Brabham won the World Championship by pushing his car across the finish line at Sebring.
At the US Grand Prix at Sebring in 1959, Brabham only need to finish the race to become champion but when he ran out of fuel on the final lap, he had to push his car across the line to fourth place, still wining the champ...
damn that's faster than w11
ah yes teammates at Cooper and 2 guys who started successful teams of their own
Jack and Bruce were also in a pretty close title battle in either 59 or 60
the anti-climactic part was that he didn't need to finish the race anyway since it was never gonna be counted since it was a best of 4 that counted to the championship
It's still funny to see tho
the context was he thought he would lose the championship if he didnt finish
but the race results were never gonna be counted for him anyway and his title contender didnt finish high enough to take the title from him
https://youtu.be/tGHZDN-qHfM in hindsight this is also useless, but you never have hindsight when you need ot
The 1986 German Grand Prix won by the Williams of Nelson Piquet, which ended with Alain Prost trying to push his McLaren over the finish line after running out of fuel on the last lap.
Also, there was money on the line for Brabham
And if you can finish the race provided you push your car.. why not doing it

@desert estuary what is the car in your profile picture?
Renault F1 Turbo
I think it’s the Renault RS10
1979 Renault
first ever turbo boi
The first turbocharged car to win a race

Check out the ex F1 driver René Arnoux in action on a 1979 Renault RS10 (successor of the RS01) during the Goodwood Festival of Speed!
This formula one car is powered by a Gordini-Renault twin turbocharged 1.5-litre V6 engine able to produce more than 500HP at 11.000rpm!
Hope you like it!

Senna's crashed car being towed off | 1994 San Marino
😢
seeing nobody in that seat
why would you want to see someone in it
it feels like nobody in a crashed car is a sign theyre gone
even though
its being towed
and nobody needs to be in there
yeah I mean he is gone since it's Senna's crash in San Marino, so...
and if he was in the seat indeed then it'd be a ban
