thats a good pic
Scary š§
Great footage of the first ever Monte Carlo Grand Prix. Organised in 1929 by Anthony Noghes, the race sees British driver William Grover-Williams driving a Bugatti 35B taking the title. He beat the great German driver, Rudolf Caracciola.

If we go by inheritance, Mario Andretti is technically the last time an Italian won a Championship
technically he raced for the united states as an american so it doesn't count
Well he raced under the US license but he is still genetically Italian, so he's an Italian champion
if i raced as an italian im genetically italian (as well as many others) i would be italian even though i was born and raised in the us
he chose to race using an american licence
yes
And that makes Andretti Italian
what does
even when he drove at Ferrari for a stint in 82 at Monza he was registered as american, cause he is
He is Italian born but raced as an American
He was born somewhere in Croatia right ?
Motovun
it's in Istria, which was Italian then

1955 - juan manuel fangio
Here is an extremely memorable piece of footage where 5-time world champion, Juan Manuel Fangio, aged 66, races against Jack Brabham. The 4 lap 'demonstration' was run after the Australian Grand Prix at Sandown in 1978. With Fangio in his W196 Mercedes Benz and Brabham in his Repco Brabham, a car 12 years newer than Fangio's.
An awesome exhibit...
Better get used to him he will be here for a while
Who knew Australians would be excited when Fangio passed Brabham
for like 2 more days
When Fangio and Brabham thought "Fuck the demonstration we're racing now"
Williams?
sir that is a williams
yeah but the engine and team is bmw
yeah and the engine supplier but the team was williams
nope it was a bmw test car
https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/features/2015/2/moments-in-time---unusual-testing-liveries.html
Williams have run interim liveries several times in testing, most recently last season when they used a navy blue car throughout pre-season. But this stripy effort, which was run at Spielberg in 1999 during a test with incoming engine partner BMW, was arguably the best of the lot. For those wondering, ace touring car racer Jorg Muller is the man in the cockpit.
As striking as Red Bullās ācamouflageā livery was at Jerez in 2015, it is by no means the first time a team has opted to run a unique colour scheme during winter testing. We look back through the archives at some of the most unusual and memorable liveries to have appeared over recent years...
yeah thats what i thought its just a bmw otherwise it wouldve have williams written on it
it was the testing livery
yes
it looked oddish
1999
yeah on the official one it probs had williams and the sponsors on it
yeah that seems right
I had a stroke after reading this...
me too
Wow this argument means nothing
yup
Um⦠Hereās some rare footage of the 1996 Bridgestone Test Car
Damon Hill testing the Ligier JS41 with Bridgestone tyres at Suzuka November the 14th 1996.
This was an official test for Bridgestone , they addopted the Ligier for their testing , since Bridgestone was to enter the Formula 1 in 1997.
Also Jos Verstappen tested the Bridgestone tyres with the Arrows and the Ligier.
it rlly does
Well funnily enough, that's what they were going for
I love how deep this blue was, it's almost like a black
The early season livery was clapped but...
oh yea that looks good
The FW21, 22, and 26 are like my faves
Is he wearing glasses?
I think it is just the way his balaclava looks
Bcs dont think safety inspectors would allow the wearing of glasses while in the car
Yes
Villeneuve, Bourdais and Gutierrez all used to wear glasses I believe
Ericsson does in IndyCar as well
Or at least he used to
He used contacts in F1 I believe

senna wasn't there to be in that car
Yes I know I thought it was a prototype
Didnāt see the moustache or the #5 so just kinda assumed it was Senna
Nah... Shame Mansell didn't get on with that far
Car* shame also he didn't stay in CART
Johann, that is a different odd number, a 7
Yes I know I didnāt know he used that
That's his point
I associate Mansell with #5
Not #7
And since his moustache wasnāt visible nor was it the #5, I just thought it was Senna
Oh right, I dumb
Dunno why but I always liked the look of the nose sticking out more than the front wing
good thing cause the car is from 95

Interesting Story: Jackie Stewart suffered a 155 MPH crash at Spa-Francorchamps and there was no medic crew and was taken out of the car by Graham Hill and was placed on the back of a pickup truck until an ambulance arrived, then the ambulance got lost on their way to a hospital so Stewart had to be stretchered to the UK

Forgotten Seasons:
Clay Regazzoni - 1970
Despite only finishing in 6 out of the 13 races and participating in only 7, he still finished 3rd in the championship and 12 points behind Jochen Rindt.
Jody Scheckter - 1974
Despite the fact I don't think he should've won in 1979, Scheckter was 24 and with Tyrell and managed to finish 3rd behind Clay Regazzoni and Emerson Fittipaldi by 7 and 10 points respectively despite retiring in the final 2 races.
Niki Lauda - 1977
While he won his 2nd championship in 1977 through being consistently up in the points, this season is overshadowed by his battle with Hunt in 1976 and with Prost in 1984
Niki Lauda - 1978
Coming off of a championship season and now joining Brabham, Lauda finished in the podium in all the 7 races he finished and finishing 4th in the championship
John Watson - 1982
In McLaren with Niki Lauda, Watson finished 3rd in the championship tying with Pironi on points and 5 points behind Rosberg in a season overshadowed by Gilles' death and Rosberg winning.
Riccardo Patrese - 1989
At Williams despite being 35 years old, he trailed the McLarens in the standings and finished 3rd in the championship.

I really like how plain test liveries stand out more than the official omes
I meant testing liveries from 1995-2000, as Ferrari went full carbon in 1998
man i miss those gold colored rims
One of my favs
Graham Hill, Monaco 1968
speaking of pre-season testing liveries, here's Ralf Schumacher driving the 1998 FW20 in an interim livery during pre-season testing in 1999

The most useless chicane in F1 ever - in 1979 Lauda and Scheckter designed a chicane at Hondenvlak for Zandvoort and... It didn't slow drivers down.
Next year was replaced by the Marlboro Chicane which did actually slow drivers down
- some catchfencing, type of runoff that was used for like a decade or so till everyone noticed it created a ton of problems compared to normal gravel
Ah catchfenching what a terrible solution
Ayrton Senna testing the Williams FW15D at Silverstone, 1994.
That can't be an FW15D
The nose and front wing are of the 16's variety
Sidepods are revised, etc
Technically the FW16 was also called the FW15D
...
They're two different cars
Like I know this is the 15D and the 16B but they have different noses and the sidepods of the 16 were further recessed
One of the wingmirrors off that car sold on F1 authentics auctions page
For like £1k
Or something like that
they were sponsored by harvard?
I know, is Spanish 1993
Yes
@analog jasper send blue ferrari
It's a Ferrari š¤
Yeah that front looks narrow
And small
Engine is in the mid
Actually you can see it's exposed
Yeah partly, it is
Is that the only time ferrari was painted differently than red?
Maybe there was a yellow livery at some point
Yeah there was a yellow livery for a bit
1964 so ofc
Graham hill's moustache can of course confirm
Cool yellow car
just look how small the car was
Yeah

Great season
4 banger
just look how it virtually had no sidepods
I always thought that the BT52 reminded me of an arrow
the fact that BMW supplied the engines but had the least noticable logo on that car
f1 | classic
it's present at 3 different places, but i agree it's not like a huge logo
As what most people would like to call... The Arrow car
It's almost like the whole livery of the Brabham-BMW's were for BMW
I never got that vibe upon first glance on the car tbh
it looks so hot š©
3/4 view shows the pure sex of cars

I was just looking through RR, and holy shit, Michael outled Rubens (His nearest competitor) 682 laps to 105 (+577)
What makes that amazing is that he didnāt have nearly as much of a gap (Although still a big one) in 2002. This leads me to believe that historically the F2002 was the better car, Michael just performed better as a driver in 2004.
To put that in perspective, the next closest domination in the modern era was Senna in 1990, +446.
Here are the top differentials:
Schumacher 1994 (16 Races) +366
Schumacher 2001 (17) +416
Hamilton 2020 (17) +425
Senna 1990 (16) +446
Schumacher 2004 (18) +577
Vettel 2013 (19) +580
Vettel 2011 (19) +589
So far this year, Max is +340.
what if you average this using the amount of races? that would make it fairer
Yeah, good idea, Iāll do that later when I get a chance.
another ferrari used as a dining table
beautiful car beautiful helmet
Fun Fact: Graham Hill's moustache was the final finishing piece that pushed his BRM P57 and Lotus 49 to winning the WDC as it had the ability to catch dirty air and transform it to better airflow and more downforce allowing his car himself to go 10 MPH faster on straights and 5 MPH faster on turns along with his already very aerodynamic hair.

you posted than in general
im spreading my fun fact

: )
ik, he was destined to be one tho
but some stupid rules and unreliable cars fricked him over
W196 Monza Spec is literally the best looking F1 car in existence
where it ended abruptly
Does anyone know which championship had the closest finish between last and first in f1 history? Could not find anything on google.
closest finish between last and first? well that's 1950 and 1956 with 30 pts for the leader
basically the 50ās yeah
Between last and first is fifties definitely kek
But closest between two title challengers is pain

No
He would have been, had the best 12 results system never been used
84 and 88 were robberies
He technically outscored Senna in 1988
So yeah. Would have been his.
He did indeed, but the points system only took what⦠9 races into account?
I think Senna deserved it
He made a charge in Suzuka 1988
in the penultimate race
But it was
So he wasnt
11
That was 2016 iirc
It still doesnāt stop him from being one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time
Well of course not.
Some forgotten superstar duos
BRM: Hill and Stewart 65-66 (Ended when Graham Hill moved to Lotus)
Lotus: Hill and Clark 67-68 (Ended when Clark died in ā68)
Cooper: Brabham and McLaren 58-61 (Ended when Brabham left to make his team)
Merc: Fangio and Moss 54-55 (Ended when Merc pulled out of F1)
Ferrari: Ascari and Farina 52-55 (Ended when Farina became an old-ass man Farina retired and Ascari left for Lancia)
rosset accepting his fate and driving into the mess was gold
Man.... Fangio and Moss duo..... A euphoric partnership
Hill and Clark: Two of the biggest names in motor racing racing alongside each other. What a spectacle.
(That, Brabham and Mclaren, or Hill and Stewart, of course)
New fans underestimate Fangio because his car was slow or because he had it easy but they donāt know that around 2 of his colleagues died every year and won 5 WDCs and lived to tell the tale
Many people donāt rank him as high as Senna, Hamilton, or Schumacher, but for me, Iād say heās right up there alongside Jim Clark
Fangio drove in arguably the most dangerous time to be a motorsports driver
no seatbelts, no helmets, trees mere feet from the track with no fences, cars that were pretty much guarunteed to catch fire if you crashed (the big reason for no seatbelts)
could probably drop "arguably" from that lol
maybe the generation following his could make the argument because the cars got a lot faster
Ltr war was most dangerous
Pre*
But after the war yes
brazil of 2016 or 17?
2016
And having no seatbelts came with a risk
Even in 1970
Jochen Rindt was killed because he always chose not to use 1 harness of his 5 harness seatbelt and when he crashed at Monza he slid under his seatbelts and it cut his throat leading to his death
These're from the same Decade
The 70's were heckin' wavy with how far things jumped
yeah that's mad
well technically the 70s were all about aerodynamics
it started off with the snow plow front wing in the early 70s
then they made monocoque chassis
monocoque chassis ? Lotus did it in 1962
Whoever ranks Fangio lower than the likes of Senna and Schumacher are clueless.... Man wrestled a coffin on wheels every race and had more than 3 competition, they also prolly hate him coz he was dominant yet people are doing the same rn with Al Hamil.... Also won 5 titles with 4 different constructors
the thing with him though, is he didn't have a lot of quality opposition
Also Fangio had was most impressed by cars that were most difficult, like the BRM V16 and Novi IndyCars, which... Y'know is pog
quality opposition didnt matter cause the faster your car was the easier it was for you to get killed
i don't see where you want to go with that š
fangio was a legend
i believe he's one if the greatest
he was in many accidents and losr many friends
arguably is the greatest

In an alternate timeline, Senna makes a recovery from his San Marino accident and wins 5 in a row to take the 1994 WDC.
I mean the FW16B was a big improvement but
SHOULDVE BEEN PROST
would have been awesome....

that, and niki lauda winning the championship after his incident
In this alternate timeline Senna advises the Williams team on what to improve while recovering in the hospital
maybe that could have affected where williams are now.... who knows...
He wouldn't have needed to recover in the hospital had the tyre not popped up like it did
Or the steering column or whatever
he also died from the blunt force trauma
3 factors killed him
This image itself shows all the stress Ayrton Senna had been enduring leading up to probably the last image of him.
nice
If the weather at Fuji had been better that day, Niki might have done exactly that.
such a shame, but fairy-tale endings dont always happen do they...
thats what makes them so special
hopefully we'll get one of them eventually
It was more of Nikis condition that stopped his race
