I love Berger's onboard coz he revs the crap out of em on downshift
I'm pretty sure safe valvetrain speeds went above redlines because of this man

Forgot that Okayama had an F1 race. Though not as the Japanese Grand Prix
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfB3hpNj9v0&ab_channel=TyDyeRacingGaming
With a nation as fanatical about motorsport as Japan is, it's perhaps not surprising that multiple tracks have hosted an F1 race in the country. However, one of these tracks seems to have been mostly forgotten about by F1 fans around the world. In this video, we look back at Okayama's brief tenure, as an F1 venue.

Graham hill had a good barber
Context behind this image is that Graham had a shunt during practice on the Friday when the privately entered Porsche of Carel Godin de Beaufort had its onboard camera fall off
Graham trying to avoid hitting it with his tyre went over it into a massive spin
I think iirc he hit it at a point that made oil leak

Worst Ferrari car? Hmm.... I don't know about that
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q14d40a6tvU&ab_channel=AidanMillward
If anyone thinks that Ferrari now is the worst, they never saw the early 1990s. Cars that wouldn't finish, cars that were powered by relics of the past, and an attitude of "Don't slag off the engine cos it looks bad on us". Recipe for disaster.
And management changes left right and centre don't help. But it's okay, another 7 years and they'll b...
iād argue their 1973 is the worst
man bun man bun
i'd argue their 1980 is the worst
hmm true there's that one
then 1973 second worst
when reliability was their strong point
The 1980 car was not ideal
makes you wonder how they managed to win 79
Jody good, car somewhat miraculous
Well the T4 took advantage of the benefits to ground effect as much as it could
It was reliable and had about 40+ hp on the DFVās
It was never really the fastest car on the grid that season tbh
We will ignore the previous seasons non ground effects car they ran earlier in the season as well
What they did end up doing with the car was just making it a wings car
Same as the Lotus 79 the previous season
That probably is the reason it ended up doing so badly in 80 too
Because Ferrari couldnāt get the venturi effect to work with the flat 12
It just kept having its airflow interrupted by the width of the car
Well Ligiers car development went nowhere
Williams managed to gain seconds of time with one attachment to the rear of the car in Silverstone
But because of dropped scores couldnāt challenge
And Depailler injured himself just when he got into the lead of championship
The Renault was completely unreliable
About covers it

Jones and De Cesaris
Yeah, Didier Pironi (FRA) Ferrari 126 CK, leads Nelson Piquet (BRA) Brabham, whilst Gilles Villeneuve (CDN) Ferrari, spins as a result of a collision with Alan Jones (AUS) Williams, both cars retired from the race.
*Gilles spun on his own at the exit of the of the old woodcote chicane
That collected Jones
De Cesaris spun in trying to avoid a slowing Watson
A wild man
I donāt think that ever changed
He could take the car by the scruff sure
But he tried to win a gp every lap
That is why Jody won 1979
Jody finished all but two ends of 79 gps
Scored in 12 gp

If I remember correctly, Ligier got worse when Prost bought the team. In fact, way worse than HAAS in the 2021 season

Just a group of lads out for a good time. Throw in a massively quick driver like James Hunt and you're on to a winner that'll capture the public attention, as early 70s Britain was not fun. Not fun at all. Why watch Dad's Army when you've got Hesketh?
This team came out of nowhere, financed entirely by the personal wealth of an English nobleman...

Oh probably, the first thing I look at is the front wing and I can tell the difference
hard to imagine they then messed up 2005 so badly
it wasn't really the chassis of the car that was so bad, it was the tyres
also the engine cover on the f2002 is more i guess vertical

Uno dei botti più grossi d Zanardi
Servizio del Tg1
"The paddock gravely feared that the worst fate had befallen the Italian ā his team even had his car transported out of the country in case he died and a criminal investigation began."
Not to mention that Michael Andretti was right behind him and missed him, but then Senna couldn't and spun into the barriers.
yeah it doesnāt have the very curved beam wing
Has anyone heard of the 'Weikershof Protocol'? It surfaced after the 1993 British Grand Prix when the FIA, amazed by the advanced car technology, aimed to prohibit various driver aids like traction control and active suspension. They planned for an immediate ban but ended up delaying it until the beginning of the 1994 season.
Zanadri's crash was also to an active suspension failure, and possibly one of the many reasons it was banned for the beginning of the 1994 season.

In a really crappy car, with a heart as big as the world and moved by the tiffosi, Alesi did the unthinkable, taking the whole track (and even more - see 1:55!) and reaching an unbelievable 3rd place on the grid, only behind the two Williams-Renault.
Enjoy!

abomination
no way someone at McLaren headquarters green lighted this
Oh, itās real.
take a sneak peek of the halo alternative which was dubbed the aero screen which was tested by vettel at the 2017 British GP practice
You mean 2017
Dallara ran a high nose setup for their F191 in 1991, and it looked considerably better than what Mclaren tried doing
I think benetton and brabham as well as footwork had raised noses
Still my favorite looking Tyrrell
remember that one time Gordon Murray made a crap car so he tried to take credit for the mp4/4 so he could cover up how bad the bt56 was
Thatās the one
I mean at least he was responsible for the Brabham BT52 and the Mclaren F1 road car
he wasnāt much of an engineer or an aerodynamicist
he just lead a team of people that were more talented than him
he had ideas and not much else
that's how almost all entrepreneurs worked
if tou check interviews of him on the topic he says it was Nicholās car mostly

I mean I canāt think of anyone else who was doing the aerodynamic work for Brabham at the time

Ride onboard with the Ferrari of Michael Schumacher as he storms to pole position during qualifying for the 2004 Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring Circuit.
All rights go to Formula One Management.
I'd say that's a bit rich coz the BT55's concept worked
The aerodynamic benefit of it's package did the job it was designed for
it's just the engine tilt that made it bad
Well the engine tilt yes but also Gordon and Weismann made the gearbox low as they would for the 4/4 and that had reliability issues too
Reminds me of Neweys demands for the MP4-20
When Villeneuve met the press, he did not pull his punches. 'First, you can't win a race like that, by cheating on your team-mate. Second, in Ferrari we always said that if we are leading the race after mid-distance, drivers must not fight with each other. We have to use our heads. Do you think this is what Pironi did today? To act like this he must feel like he has his back covered, there's no other explanation. I don't know what he was thinking but if he wants war, I'll give him war.' Villeneuve could not believe his ears when Pironi later said that there were no team orders. The fact that Piccinini then confirmed Didier's words made him even more angry. The feud between the Ferrari drivers quickly became the talk of the paddock. Villeneuve told the Italian press, 'I should have listened to Tambay when he warned me to watch out for Pironi. But I didn't; that was my mistake.'
One thing for sure is Gordon was mainly at McLaren to build the roadcar he did act as a liaison for the design office
And was at gp to run the car
As were Oatley and Nichols both engineering Alain and Ayrton
Those were the days
But Nichols had already laid some ground work with the 87 car which to my money I seem to remember Alain and Stefan (Johansson) didnāt like the handling characteristics of
I think Gordons main claim to credit comes from like one person in the 90s completely getting it wrong and since then heās run with it
Benetton won a race and got a podium with the same engine yet worse aerodynamic package
Point being?
two poles and a fastest lap as well
the aerodynamic package was still bad
... I mean, okay?
well two different cars from two different teams can have the same engine and have varying results.
if the aerodynamic package was so good why did the car perform so mediocre
How about the Ferrari F92A's aerodynamics?
handles like a truck
Ivan Capelli loathed the car
what about the Leyton house cg901b?
a good aerodynamic package with an actually bad engine
would have won the 1990 French gp
Because the arodynamic package wasn't the problem in and of itself but what it compromised. IT allowed for that reduction in drag for the same if not more df, however Gordon Murray even admits that going as far as he did to get as low as he did was a mistake
The car had awful acceleration because the leant over engine had bad throttle response on top of the hurrendous turbolag, and the angle would make massive oil surge when turning one way then the opposite condition in the other
Second... Coz of the offset of the crank, they commissioned Weismann to make a 3 shaft gearbox, which also was a 7 speed... Which also then had reliability issues
The good tell tho is that despite having the slowest finish trap speed at Imola, at the end of the straight it was the fastest, so the aerodynamic package was enough to offset the speed lost in acceleration
But like... I think one look at the rollhoop height relative to the rear wing is enough to tell it's a bit too ambitious
in other words, like the Ferrari F92, it wasn't the chassis, it was the engine
I dunno, by skippies description it sounds like the chassis was severely restricting the engine
because it was unreliable due to the aerodynamic package
the package wasn't adapted to the constraints of the engine
change it to a V6 that sits much lower and you're good. that's the MP4/4
well that was just a really good car
team managaer ramirez has talked enough about how murray was doing quality control and nichols has always refuted the murray claims over everything
Denny!
God it is ideal to find out Jo Siffert had a car with a 300L petrol tank instead of back seats
this was because petrol in Switzerland was half the price of anywhere else in europe
it had a mattress on the top of it is as well
that is deeply insane
Signed picture I have:

Frank Williams Racing. Not to be confused with the Williams team that we know today
those wing mirrors in the second photo look funny
Though annoyingly all their in house chassis after that were collaborative operations with stupid combined names
So wolf-williams
And one chassis was a Hesketh basically
Iso-Marlboro
speaking of old school f1 cars, the porsche 804 was a personal favourite
Yes Gurney won with that at Rouen
In 62
Put it on pole much to delight of the home crowd at the Nurburgring two races later
lapped the guy in 2nd at rouen too
Tony Maggs yeah
Maggs given the machinery he was given had a respectable career
But Bruce outperformed him by quite a bit
shame Porsche decided to stop F1, they really were onto something in 62
And that tbh is saying something because Brabham destroyed McLaren
when?
except in 61 when Cooper started losing traction
Jack retired in like all but 2 gp tbf
I did always think he was a bit nowhere from 61-65 but nah
sounds like his 67 season
he would always want the latest parts, which made him faster true, but also made him not finish the race
The words of Hulme
Ngl Hulme was just better that season
Like Jack only comes up again in 70 when the car for most of the season is the best package
But Rindt is at the wrong team
Like the dude literally runs out of fuel on the last lap in Brands
Throws away Monaco too
One season too much I think
To be challenging for a championship
i don't see why he would lie about that tbh, he was so pissed with this situation that he left for McLaren
so i'm also extrapolating that and expecting Jack to do that at Cooper too
he's the only one who ran the T58, which qualified 2nd, 10th and 1st, but neverr finished a race
while Bruce was "stuck" with the older T55 that qualified lower, but finished in the points for these 3 races

Marc Surer
ideal
but it isn't
Ricardo LondoƱo-Bridge was suppose to drive but couldnt get an F1 superlicense
so Surer took it
shocking
Lmao read this
1981, Brazil. Ensign Grand Prix has just signed a new and very Colombian driver to race their borderline competitive, but aged N180B machine.
The wealthy Colombian Ricardo Londoño-Bridge, despite setting rather acceptable times, being on pace with the 22nd-24th place starters, was denied a superlicense. In 1981 a superlicense was still a big thing which could not be acquired at the local supermarket à la Esteban Tuero or Daniil Kvyat.
So Ensign owner and legendary mechanic Mo Nunn found himself without a driver. The driver Nunn had for the season opener, Marc Surer happened to be in Brazil for a testing session and looking for a drive, so he was drafted in ASAP.
Surer took the ride still covered with Londono's sponsor decals and qualified an acceptable 18th. He then had a great race in the wet conditions. First he had a cracker of a start and finished the first lap in 9th, then made on track passes against Prost, Watson, Rosberg and de Angelis ending up with a 4th(!) place finish and setting the fastest lap for the only time in his career.
The best thing about it? Just one night before qualifying the guy was out drinking with no ride.
oh yeah we know that part
Tl;dr: Dude with no ride is out partying on Thursday, gets a last minute call to drive a 2 year old car and scores a 4th place + a fastest lap, passing Prost on the way.

then finally the new dfv for the remaining season
forgot they had already changed to the 49 by round 3 so ignore that
more powerful than the climax, and much more fragile. important in ZA but not in Monaco
ngl
don't think it is that
i think it probably has to do with the available engines to them
for Monaco?
they had run the brm's the previous season
it was the h16 clark had in rsa as well
graham ran the v8 in monaco
And the damn H16 ended up winning the US Grand Prix
Kind of right I suppose
But rebuilding the H16 cost more than paying for it
yeah, itās possible they just ran out of them lmao
since they were going for the dfv soon
Yes well that is the answer for that
Familiarity probably answers for why Hill elected for the BRM V8 and Clark the Coventry Climax V8
yeah i think so

The annual dinner-dance of Club Lotus was held at the Casino Hotel, Taggs Island, last Friday. Les Leston was in sparkling form, and one of the highlights of the evening came when he asked Stirling Moss to stand up and take a bow. Immediately half-a-dozen black-bearded figures rose to their feet at Cliff Davis's table, Moss being completely dwarfed by king-sized folk such as Ouvaroff and MacNab both around 6 feet. Jabby Crombac replied on behalf of the guests, and another speaker was Frank Harris of the Ford Motor Co. Ltd. Later Jim Clark, Mike Beckwith and Crombac drove in with an Elan, for the presentation of awards by Mrs. Tony Ellis, wife of the President. Towards the end, Colin Chapman was grabbed and de-bagged then fitted with a natty pair of blue nylon panties. Also, somehow or other, a Costin speedboat, won in the Tombola, found itself in the Thames-sans engine, but otherwise quite seaworthy. Hazel Chapman was presented with a trophy by Fords, to carry her own name. It will be given for the best performance during the season by a driver with a Ford powered Lotus.

i was wondering actually
I donāt think he tried to do things that put him in uncalculated danger. I think from that point of view he was a responsible driver. He always had this image of being crazy, and he wasnāt really. He was only crazy when he wanted to be, it was his image. I always tell the story about driving from Monaco with him. I didnāt want to do it, because I hated to be a passenger. But the whole time he drove perfectly, until we got just outside Modena, and soon the wheels were spinning and he started sliding around and everything. That was the proof of what I felt. I also remember going with him in his helicopter, and again once we got over Modena he started his tricks again. I stopped that really quickly. I hated flying. He was going down and then up. I said you better stop now or Iāll wring your neck. He knew I meant it.

āPartly because I still have time ahead of me, I am sure one day Iāll drive a red Ferrari, itās one of my dreams.ā Ayrton Senna
Since Lewis just signed with Ferrari for 2025, I wonder if Ayrton would've too later in his career
God there is quite a few of those edits
I think Fiorio has even suggested before he could have been there for 1991
If he had his way
Which seems intriguing to read about but it was likely never happening because of the political vaccum
Some high ranking Ferrari guy was always going to find out about this plan and side with Prost to turn on Cesare
quite certain he wouldāve
I would assume sometime in between 1995 and 1998, but it's hard to know exactly when.
All I know is that Todt asked Senna to race for Ferrari in 1995
Bro Ayrton in a 412T2 with the way Jean's handling had would've been devestating
The way Jean holds the steering wheel is weird, but guess it works out for him
Schumacher also tested with the 412 T2 and declared the car to be "good enough to win a world championship."
Lamborghini's (rather unsuccessful) works team
Designed by Mauro Forghieri
weird for a f1 driver, but thatās how weāre taught to hold it when learning to drive
That is the driving school grip
10 to 2
But far as Iām aware you would want to be really holding it from the middle (9 to 3)
In case of injury to your arms and face from the air bag
it's more tiring that way
Canāt say I have noticed a difference
for long trips i feel exhausted that way
Mmm I like holding near the bottom. Ig 8 and 4? if weāre doing numbers on a clock
When I was learning my dad kept saying 10-2
But for me it was uncomfortable
And then I realised it can possibly be of danger in case of airbag deployment
My instructor said as much too
But Alesis rationale for that style is very much fine for racing
I think Bruni had it too if we are thinking about closer to the modern day
I would imagine 9 and 3 is nice as well for just feeling like you have a little more control
May have to try it out

Yes, Modena with the cool triangular sidepods
The car was the Lambo 291
Not Lamborghini, Lambo
Its name was officially Lambo
https://www.statsf1.com/en/lamborghini-291.aspx are you sure about dat
The chassis designation was Lambo
And for the purposes of not getting into a debate about that the team was practically independent quickly into 1991
Lamborghini wasnāt too happy to have its name scorned by the results of something it had actually put its mind to
Even if only for a short time
š„
but it's not what it was registered as by the FIA ?
The change of name would cause confusion throughout the season. It was essentially a Lamborghini Engineering team, as they had designed and built the chassis, the chassis carried the firm's name and it was powered by a Lamborghini engine, but they were adamant on having it named differently and went about registering it under a different name, resulting in the team known as Modena but the cars as Lambo 291's on the official entry list.
alright, tried to find entry list on FIA's archies but they don't go that far in the past
It will be in the FIA yearbook
Is there a release date for this?
I really enjoyed the 2010 documentary
yes i am lol
lamborghini built the car
then they wanted to distance themselves from it
therefore lambo
One of the strangiest looking cars from the V10 era,the 1996 Ferrari F310
Compared to the Williams FW18 of the same season:
I honestly get mixed results when searching for that online, some say Lamborghini 291 and others say Lambo 291 lmao
Lamborghini designed and built the chassis, and the engine, and even had lamborghini on it, but decided to change the team name to Modena Team SpA
Yeah
That was an underdeveloped Barnard design that switched noses mid-season lol
The same season McLaren shortened their cars after round four
Itās expected to be released later this year according to the Insta post.
It looked like a couch
Or as Matt Beer once said
āThe Forti had sex with the proposed DAMS carā
IDK how to explain it but Barnard went very conservative and took the 1996 cockpit side protection safety rule too much literal while Newey and the other teams found a loophole to produce very slim and low cockpit sides
oh that's why
shame cause he was on a good idea with the 95 car i reckon. it was plenty fast
Well Williams got ahead on the driver seat positioning anyway
They were always going to be so much faster in 96
what did they do? Newey said it in his book but i forgor
Hold on
Dear god I had the specifics down under a certain message that I canāt remember a single word of
I do not own mr neweys book
So can not look there either
Well
I have plenty of other things I want to purchase and read
Okay some clarification it mainly wasnāt that
It was something at the rear of the car in relation to the gearbox
That had been brought in at Aida the previous season
That gave them a decent advantage already
Newey's upgraded FW17B was tested at Silverstone and Imola before being taken to Portugal. The rear end was modified with revised floor and narrower new gearbox to facilitate substantial revisions to the diffuser. The exhausts exited above the diffuser and the rear suspension shrouds were removed so that wide-angled upper wishbones and new suspension geometry could be fitted.
They went back to the previous revision of car after some problems
So Aida was the first race I think they ran it
Possibly European gp too
Newey was quite amazed no one else did this
History I think has been repeating for Newey
The loophole that Newey found is that in the regulations it's written that only the area where the foam protection had to have/would be located was considered
Newey went even above and made the protection also work as a winglet
rules: no moveable aerodynamic device
Newey: the whole car is an aerodynamic device

So I was reading an article about the new biopic series about Senna, and they had a few pictures of the series, and one of them was Senna (Gabriel Leone) in what looks to me is a modified MP4/3, but I wanted to get your guys idea on what it actually is.
The front long nose piece definitely resembles the MP4/3

More than annoyed about the Senna doc film given Jacobi who managed both drivers at the time was involved in the making of it
Was he a consultant? Because theyāre usually stereotyped as getting paid to sit around
I think he was involved in practically getting the whole thing going
Like funding wise I suppose
But he did reflect on work he did for that film
The MP4/3ās nose is much wider than the MP4/5Bās
I hope so too
Knowing Senna fans, shit could get worse with them if it does become another Prost-shaming piece of media
