"I have decided to not participate as a driver in the 2031 Qatar Grand Prix. Under the special permission of the FIA, I have been allowed to field an affiliate to replace me at the Grand Prix.

At Sunburst we have two affiliates who are Super Licence holders, and thus eligible to race in Formula One: the 22-year-old Veikko Virtanen, racing for Campos in Formula 2, and who has already raced in three Formula One Grands Prix in 2031, replacing me while I was ill in Monaco, and injured in Zandvoort and Monza, bringing in podiums in all three races; and the 21-year-old Mathilda Segers, also competing in Formula 2 with Trident. An official statement has been released by the lead driver of Sunburst, DP, stating that he intends to sit out the race weekend in Lusail to allow the opportunity for one of the affiliate drivers to the team to drive and gain experience.

Veikko wins 2 of his 3 races and places P2 in the other; and DP shows nobility by giving up a victory that would have clinched the championship for him for the sake of seeing his teammate win in sunburst colours, and sacrificing a near certain 1-2 by crashing in Vegas, but in the process giving Bearman enough of a gap to win again.
