Interesting quali in Imola!

DP does an early lap, dips into the gravel twice in S1, but gets 2 purple sectors to be on provisional pole by half a second. He decides to go back out and run a lap towards the end - he's still on pole, but the gap's too narrow to risk. Nails S1, but goes off the road in sector 2 on the second lap. He starts a third lap as he finished his second just seconds before the chequered flag. But he makes the same mistakes in sector 1. Eyes were on the McLarens - who could not beat DP!

It was a qualifying of closer margins than usual, but in the first of two Italian races, it will be DP on pole. Norris is 0.159 behind, then Alonso 0.233 and Leclerc 0.237. Russell is P5, followed by Perez, Albon, Sainz, Hamilton, and Piastri, and Verstappen is only 11th!
