If the electronics fail, the car shuts down entirely.

In the game, it's just like a speed limiter, if you watch the replays, you can sometimes even see if there's like a slow corner, they accelerate out of that corner with a burning engine.

If the engine fails, it doesn't work anymore at all.

So the engine failures in the game are very far away from the reality.
