Whats the difference of GTE and GT3

GTE allows for more modifications in comparison to the road car than GT3. For example, GT3 requires a bit more stock parts than GTE, which only uses the chassis, engine block and the cylinder head
sand the gasket (I think it was gasket)from a road car.Edit: had to check the rulebook; engine block and the cylinder heads are stock, but some minor modifications are allowed. Also, if direct injection is used, injectors have to be stock.
Both categories use traction control, but GT3 also has ABS.
GT3 does BoP much more heavily, making a Bentley able to compete with a Ferrari. You could also say GTE is more finely developed than GT3.
However, recently there has been a sort of a convergence between the categories which complicates the explanations. For example, Ferrari 488 GT3 customers can buy a kit to convert the car to GTE.
BMW was allowed a special waiver to use a modified GT3 car (as was the case with the Z4), but only in IMSA; it is not ACO-homologated.

LMP2 stays as the customer prototype category.
And from 2024, GTE Pro and GTE Am is replaced by probably a single GT3 category (not confirmed if the Pro category stays, considering GT3 is traditionally not a manufacturer class).

Haha good question, I think WEC makes more sense because "Hypercar" is the category/class, while "Le Mans Hypercar" is one of two sets of regulations. I'd hope IMSA as well finds a slightly different name for the category but, who knows.

Sportscar racing really is shaping up for big changes in the first half of the 2020s. LMH and LMDh are looking to become global classes, and the WEC are switching out GTE Pro and GTE Am for a purely Am-based GT3 category. At the same time more and more electric championships are popping up. Exciting times.
