Laurent scrambling for seat after late Alpine snub
The French driver concedes that a return to the WEC, where he has raced since 2017, is now unlikely and says his primary focus is on securing a seat in the European Le Mans Series and the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Laurent was part of the Signatech Alpine squad in LMP2 for the 2019/20 WEC campaign, but was informed early last month that his services wouldn’t be required for the team’s step up to the ...Keep reading

Step 1 - rebadge it and change it a bit
vs Acura Honda
LMH and LMDh are different tho
yes
Seperate from LMH
but LMH and LMDh are different classes
You can enter an LMDh car in LMH iirc
Toyota still has
Inb4 Toyota randomly joins IMSA to kick Acura's ass

How to make lmp1 attractive to manufacturers: lmp2
LMP2 is more chassis manufacturers then manufacturers tho lol
Imagine.... Lexus joins LMDh then Toyota announces departure in 2023
LMP2 is just battle of the orecas
Just for Lexus to be rebadged
That isn't Toyota leaving, that's Toyota pulling a Alpine
Ferrari announces top flight Le Mans, Sportscars return
The Italian manufacturer will line up in the FIA World Endurance Championship with an in-house chassis and take on hypercar competition from Toyota, Peugeot, Glickenhaus and ByKolles, while Audi, Porsche and Acura are building new LMDh prototypes which will also be eligible to compete in a unified Le Mans Hypercar class.

YOUR LATE BOT
what the FUCK is that
Terrible motorsport.com renders
I have no clue why people make Hypercar renders look so much like production cars
While in reality they will be very similar to LMP1s
yup
looks at Porsches concept for a road legal version of their 919
Such a shame that didn't happen btw
i wouldnt be surprised if in the next few years ferrari consider going into IndyCar as an angine supplier
they did consider indycar
yeah
and chose against it
they said at the time, they weren't ruling out other programmes
I think they chose in favour of WEC instead of Indycar
i'm willing to bet this is the other programme
i'm sure it's more interesting for Ferrari's staff
Looks at the road version of the bugatti bolide (if that is a thing)
I doubt Ferrari will join IndyCar anytime soon
I think we can drop that dream for now
IndyCar's a) in America and b) isn't exactly an aerodynamic challenge
Ferrari would prefer to make their own chassis I think
Which you can't in Indy
Instead some other Italians make that
I'm sure if the idea is to move Scuderia Ferrari resources somewhere, yeah exactly
you want somewhere where they'll be utilised
The year is 2030
Ferrari buys Dallara so Dallara is a part of Ferrari so Ferrari technically makes their chassis in IndyCar

But Ferrari were thinking of having a factory team in Indy
Still, all they would do is create a engine and run a team
Imagine ferrari in nascar
FIA Formula 2 World Champion by Ferrari
impossible
Well I got something curse for you...
Wtf
NO
what the FUCK
How
That's a GT3 with Goodyear tires
yeah that won't pass NASCAR regs sorry
Kinda late
why 2023?
porsche announced it too
Because I doubt they can make a car in 2 months
because LMH is the big series in 2023
wdym?
And yeah 2023 is the year everyone will join
what teams to we have confirmations/are interested in joining for 2023?
LMDh will start in 23, this year onwards is the pre trial season for LMH
2021 Alpine (LMP1) yeah thats weird af
2021 ByKolles (LMH)
2021 Glickenhaus (LMH)
2021 Toyota (LMH)
2022 Peugeot (LMH)

?
LMDh replaces DPi
LMH replaces LMP1
If Acura joins WEC, it will be badged as a Honda for sure
LMP2 exists brah
Dh is still prototypes...
Relief
Imo both LMDh and Hypercars are prototypes
They’re just LMP2 chassis with Road hybrid tech
Like, Hypercars look like Protoypes in every way
i mean this is what the 2021 toyota hypercar looks like
Its basically the TS050 Jr.

Dammit, you beat me to it
It's really odd yeah
Man that looks weird but cook at the same time
The front is a flat as the plane of existence
The front of the glickenhaus is basically either a wedge or a doorstopper
Basically an Ultima
yeah it does look like an ultima a bit
thats what DPi is as well soo
i like it
Am sad Mazda is now off the radar
LMDh is just DPi but less yank
LMP2 is the only WEC class I don't care about at all
and LMDh seems to have basically undermined the whole dream of LMH
and they won't even tell us what the bloody h stands for in LMDh
LMP3...
I mean how the fuck do you announce a whole class called LMDh without telling us what the sodding h stands for
LMP3 is just
People crashing protoypes into each other
That's basic
LMP3 was absolute catastrofuck in IMSA last month, so expect the same for WEC too...
the h most likely stands for hybrid
Prototype derby
LMP3 isn't in WEC
Iirc
They’re adding them this year
Inb4 Daytona LMP3 was good /s
bruh
OH DEAR.
LMP4
none of the LMP3 cars in the rolex 24h finished on the same lap as the class leader
lmao
exists
calling it now, they'll make LMDh a hydrogen class and then pretend the h stood for hydrogen all along
Cant wait for some flying LMP3s on the Mistral
LOL
2nd place in LMP3 was literally 2 laps down from the leader
Imagine LMP3 in Spa
Oh lord
that looks dope

So... GT4 prototypes
He is too dangerous to be kept alive
I mean... the KTM Xbow GT4 is literally just an LMP car in disguise
DID SOMEONE SAY REAL LIFE RACING DRIVER JIMMY BROADBENT?

Lmfao
wanna know the funny bit
koenessiegg
Vs SPYKER

CVS are fielding an hypercar?
yes
VS. Broadbent racing company
That's a bold move.
I want koenessiegg racing in le mans though
tbh
they'd fit in well in hypercar class
bugatti too
bugatti makes sense
bugatti as well yeah
they have money
bugatti bolide in hypercar class would be SO FUCKIN SICK
Which happened
Koenigsegg have no money
it's basically a hypercar class car already isn't it
ehhh I think they can manage
Spyker had money and then they spaffed it all on racing programs
christian is a talented man
he can do le mans if he wants to
I really want ford to pull up again
I genuinely doubt they can
And then went bankrupt
the GT is the greatest car ever built don't @ me
for that exact reason, yeah Sheeple
And then came back
And then went bankrupt
Again
I don't want Koenigsegg to Spyker themselves
And now are back
Again
But this time with SMP Racing moneyz
Bugatti are VAG's "hey we found a few hundred mil, what should we do with it" brand
They'd fit right in with LMH
Well, Boris Rotenberg I should say
do all cars in LMH have to use engines?
could say rimac show up
do battery swaps
instead of recharging the cell?
I'm not sure battery swaps are legal
ah okay
no way they can recharge in time
well yeah 1 hour pit stops aren't very fun
but battery swaps would be sick
since they're faster then a refuel
and more often probably too
eh
cuz their stints wouldn't even be as long
Tesla don't have a marketing budget
But like, literally, Tesla do not spend any money marketing their cars
Nah mate I rather would want this bad boi
my source suggests he's back in control
he's just promised not to tweet about stocks, and realised the SEC can't do jack shit about crypto
OH shit
yeah
I love tesla and the work they're doing, but fuck elon musk
seriously
VW are so weird man honestly
the IDR is a fuckin masterpiece
VW is having an identity crisis
VW made this BEAST and then was like
"Yeah lmao we are now shutting down all motorsport activities we have"
well I mean
I get "ID" but like?
who else could it be?
and then yeah, they did that
Bugatti, Porsche, Audi
audi yes
Seat even makes more fucking sense
porsche yes actually
Porsche or Audi especially
but not bugatti
Bugatti no since they are like
Combustion engines go brrr
Seat's under Audi in their like "go fast" half
They probably just want to shovento the people’s faces that VW is the top of the food chain of the VW Group
Yeah, which isn't true
nah that's not it
and it's their fault it isn't
it's cuz VW is pushing for more electrics
i love what elon musk is doing for mankind, i don't love elon himself
Amazing strategy from Volkswagen group, have a few of your manufacturers go green and the rest continue to be combustion engines
So you get praise for going green while you just push your combustion sportcars to Lambo and Bugatti
They've spent decades saying Porsche > Audi > VW
Then try and flip it on its head
Then kill it
Absolutely amazing strategy
TBF lambo is goin hybrid next gen (reportedly), bugatti is fuckin bugatti, and then porsche and audi are already releasing green cars
this is exactly what they should be doing
and yet
volkswagen group is pushing the IDR cuz they want to be associated with electric vehichles
and having the fastest electric vehihcle
does just that
1 now that audi is leavinv
why not make one of them VW branded
different marketing for different brands?
I'm aware, I'm saying that was a marketing mistake
Porsche never should've joined FE if all they were ever going to do was force Audi out
true
Like
Volkswagen should be their... Peoples car, as the name fucking suggests. Only motorsport it could be in is Rally and RX.
Porsche and Audi should be their "green" sportcars brands. Audi being a bit of the lesser of Porsche
And then Bugatti and Lamborghini can be your combustion engine sportcars
true
VW never have any idea what the other hand is doing
They actively compete with themselves
porsche could be hybrid/mix
no one watches rally
no one's gonna waste that much money on it
doesn't porsche retain quite a bit of individual control
Porsche, the family, owns some of VW, which owns the car brand outright
Yeah, they all do though
And that's what I'm saying
Audi and Porsche are part of the same company but keep competing
Which VAG should put a stop to
They're not in the same market segment
they are aren't they
no
both operate luxury, sportier vehihcles
Porsche is more up-market
Audi make nice versions of VWs
audi is more consumer
and then porsche is more performance
yeah
audi quattro though
that's some good shit
I feel like Audi is also the more electric focused of Porsche and Audi
nah, porsche is a bit further down I think
porsche has the hybrid system down
But it leaves Lambo free
And Bugatti
Really Lambo and Bugatti are also in the same pond
bentley is more MEHSHESH
dewfinitely not
Because remember, VW have FIVE FUCKING GT3 CARS
lol
five current generation GT3 cars
which ones?
Skoda and Volkswagen also kind of are
R8, GT3, Continental and what else
Porsche
oh right and then the lamborghini GT3
Oh yeah Lambo
it's 4
^
How much brands Volkswagen owns is insane
Rolls are
ah
nah
they are.
rolls have some different shit
they're a different breed
a) you have a 50k mechanism right there in the front
b) you have a shit ton of sound proofing
c) you have the control and luxuriousness
but yes back on topic
Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi, Lambo, Bugatti, Bentley, Skoda, Seat
Then Ducati for bikes and Scania and MAN Trucks for... Trucks
Which is funny since Scania and MAN are also major competitor's
VW are just a little fucked
Skoda are just VWs but cheaper, so we can rule them out
skoda is also tiny
Although Scania is just the cooler MAN
and that's a fact
if anyone watched rally I'd put Seat in rally
Skoda in rally would also work
audi should do a rally tour just for kicks
Scania can go truck racing, fuck MAN
Scania is the cooler MAN
the quattro is the most LEGENDARY AWD car
I thought women were the cooler men?
aside from the lancia
Sorry
why did lancia have to die like it did
unceremoneously
ah yes let's pretend Lancia are dead
they are
that's better than the truth
let's be real
God Scanias are so sex
I'd rather lancia just sold lifted ferraris
that current gen Scania is so beautiful
I mean, even if Lancia as a company was alive, their cars would still be dead.
Stranded on the side of the road dead that is.

you're saying you don't want an ypsilon?
Current gen DAF also is
porsche can stay in all GT classes
Audi do, but they should be in Le Mans.
Porsche should do GT yeah
as well
VW should be in FE
uh
Who is going to do the rally tho
:(
why is that
no one, it's not worth the money
rally?
Rally is cool :(
what's that
First off, they only want one for money reasons
So that should be VW.
fine, porsche does FE and becomes VW's dedicated motorsports brand
Bentley if we're saving money should quit everything
Or just stay in GT3
Cuz Boatleys be cool
I want these back :(
no
lambo does no motorsport
the literal reason it was founded
was to be road cars
it goes against their basic principles
lambo should pull out of motorsport altogether
b) who cares
lamborghini in f1 no
why not bugatti?
Because you can't buy one
you don't need to be able to buy it
Bugatti is the halo brand for all of VW
wait
NGL Lambos are also hard to buy because cough too expensive
Lambos make money when VW sells you one

and bugatti sells volkswagens
Williams sells Williamses
no they don't
what's your point
haas sells gene haas sperm samples
no one has ever bought a golf because they saw a veyron on TV
alpha tauri sells bulls
Williams and Sauber both have engineering divisions
it is the most halo brand
AlphaTauri sells overpriced clothing
of all halo brands
That's not how it works lmao
bruh
It isn't.
And Toro Rosso sold... Cola
the horshoe
Toro Rosso also sold Red Bulls lets be honest
and racing point sells racing lines
nothing sold the colas
i think you'll find they sold the best water technology
ah yes
Yeah because Red Bull Cola was a worse idea then Coca Cola Energy
You can buy your own India now
true sorry
we started memeing
too hard
anyway
bugatti
hey
george
can you make ap oll for htis
bugatti or lamborghini in f1
since I'm banned from making polls
can I appeal my ban from making polls
probably
ooh
to whom,
try the new thing
I'm not your guniea pig
uh /open
this is #motorsports

</open:788551901033660416>
Don't abuse that @sonic rapids.
can confirm he did not
okay
I opened a ticket where I owned up to what I said.
aight
I made a ticket
and said ticket was closed
anyway
back to the discussion
yes back to motorsports
lamborghini is known
they don't need to advertised
for literally everyone
a fancy sports car
is a lamborghini or a ferrari
they don't need that recognition
now bugatti
that's the mysterious super expensive OH SHIT brand
that's the exact opposite of how it works
and bugatti has been pushing for more motorsport oriented products
with the Divo and bolide
Lamborghini is currently known because they paid a lot of money to advertise their cars for decades.
true
They're also the brand that actually sells cars at a profit.
but now
Bugatti do not operate like a normal car brand.
bugatti does as well
bugatti made profits on the chiron
the veyron was a cash bleeder
the chiron was not
But either way they are not normal and do not work normally
yes
VW do not need to advertise Bugatti
and that's why I think they'd be perfect for F1
And they won't
they don't
ever do so
but they don't need to advertise lambo as well
Yes they do
That's literally what I'm saying
Coca-cola once stopped all advertising on the assumption that everyone knew them already and they could save some money.
I think Ferrari is overrated.
They lost money.
bugatti won't lose as much money in f1 as lamobrghini would
And had to start advertising again.
You do not stop successful marketing.
It's what's selling your cars
It's why people buy Lambos
Because they're on bedroom posters, and in marvel movies, and why if VW ever wanted to move into F1
it's the brand they should, but won't, field
They'll field Audi or Porsche
most likely porsche
yeah
fine ig
you make good points, but I still think that if anyone was going to utilize f1 tech into a road car it'd be bugatti ¯_(ツ)_/¯
although
sure, but that's got nothing to do with the badge they run
Porsche would be the greatest choice for the Group since they already had history in the sport
they're still VAG
it could say Scania on the side of an F1 car and that tech still be used in a Bugatti
Audi would be interesting tho...
Well everything is being pushed into Porsches hands from a performance perspective, whether that be Bugatti because VW want nothing to do with it considering Piech has died, Bentley getting more with Porsche on the gearbox front, or Lambo changing hands from Audi to Porsche
porsche has a solid footing in rimac, watch them use that for their motors
Also Porsche made an F1 engine for 2021
Which was beaned
Because the FIa pussyfooted
porsche would be UNSTPOABBLE in f1
... I mean... That's an opinion that's not entirely consistent
Although in the 80's they did very well with McLaren
But if they were the biggest interest for F1 this year, and were basically told all your efforts are in vain... I don't see them trying agaib
Also the 90's happened which was potential wasteage central
i guess uh
this is sorta an f1 convo now
which actually means we've managed to go off topic in the complete other direction
lmao
I hate when people say
I wanna hear the Valkyrie AMR Pro so bad
F1 sucks and nascar is better
Pls none of that stuff
It's mainly coz it's wrong, and Indycar, S5000 and Trans-Am are better
I know right
What is a s5000
Fuck nascar
i just can't deal with the amount of ads they put in things over there
All my homies hate nascar

Its terrible
I’d be shitting myself if Mazda does the biggest uno reverse card in motorsport and announces an LMH entry
I hate nascar as well

Sad that the new S5000 didn’t have those huge airbox
They've just started back up
Sounds like a muscle car but with an f2 chassis
I think with the chub noses, a tall airbox actually can work
Because they are
But F3
But I think it poses a safety risk maybe, and also there's only so much they wanted to change
then an f3 car with a muscle car engine

They make historic Can-Am and F5000 tyres too
That's another thing I love of the Festival of Speed: seeing 40+ years old cars being driven fast on that tight hillclimb course. And this was the case of a Lola T400 F5000 car from 1975, chassis HU7. The car, that only weighs 665 kg (1,466 lb), is powered by a Chevrolet 5.0-litre V8 engine paired with a 5-speed Hewland DG300 manual gearbox. Hea...
This is historic but shut.
Ferrari in WEC??
that's rather hype but also kinda unexpected considering I never really saw Ferrari as moving wider than F1 for a while

yup
Might have to work on his skills a bit then
I heard Lotus is evaluating LMH as well...
Bro I only just heard about the T.50s, boi weighs 850kg no way is it going into hypercars
Well they can put ballasts...
Thing weights 852kg, produces 1,500kg of downforce, and has a peak of 725bhp
When LMH is 1,030kg weight with 671bhp combined
Eh I guess it's closer than the Valkyrie but
Sonoma?
Fucking hell... why tf does Sonoma looks good with grass but then the track looks dead asf in the Summer?
Drought in the summer sadly
It’s a literal desert in Sonoma every race weekend there

I just find it unusual this justification coming from a man who lives and breathes motorsport. An inheritently dangerous sport. All competitors at all levels put themselves at a degree of risk.
Either motorsport is dangerous or it isn't. It isn't more dangerous for Grosjean. If Gene has a moral issue with safety it should apply to all driver and he should step back from motorsport all together? Fascinating thing to say.

My take is that it was a way out of a deal he wasn't fully committed to, when he was originally looking to help out a driver who gave a lot to his F1 team. Haas felt lucky one of his drivers didn't die, so is saying 'why roll even more dice when I don't really want to?'

Essentially it's a money thing, but it does have some logic to it, too. The more cars and series you enter, the more chance of an incident (But at no point did he say IndyCar is more dangerous than F1, for anyone making that argument).
Where it falls down is that I imagine if it made great business sense and Haas really wanted to, then he'd still have sponsored Romain (or another driver) in IndyCar. But I don't feel that spending money on IndyCar after all the F1 cutbacks would have been a good look, either.
Definitely sensing some general Haas resentment too that isn't really about this specific situation. I think it was just a convenient way of opting against spending more money that he was never compelled to spend.
(Sorry to do a thread but there were so many replies!)
We ignoring Newman/HAAS?
Or is it a different HAAS?
HAAS cnc sponsored PacWest, too
Pretty sure Newman Haas was different entity from Gene's
that's Carl Haas
cant find any evidence of Haas branding on PacWest

The worse thing I could think of is SCG getting sponsored by Rich Energy...
Oh god, oh Fu--
sounds so good
I think the 5 looks better than the 7 but felix isn’t driving that one so vuse car for the win
Why did I just found out about SCG's engine is 2 Hyundai WRC engines glued together?
SHHHHH..... Don't give William Storey ideas
Overall after day 1
Hyundai ran extremely well with all 5 cars doing well
Loubet lost 3 minutes with a puncture

but tanak is driving insanely quick. Rovanpera is the only man that could close to him. Lost a lot of time due to getting stuck in a ditch
Ogier's entire rally is a damage limitation as he's the 2nd car on the road tomorrow so he will not be gaining as much
Oliver Solberg's been doing extremely solid with his debut on a WRC car. Also with a 11th hour co driver replacement due to covid
Evans did really solid while being 2nd car on the road. Didn't lost as much time as people thought
