Holy shit giancarlo fisicella
Malukas tho man
Good race f1 time
Really really sad about Pato but glad it was still a good race
Pato as well
I'm just glad mcglaughlin did good
0.018 between rosenqvuist and Malukas is crazy
They say if you want to win rally ya hire a finn
But if you want to win Indy
You hire a Swede
What a fucking joke. 3 laps of yellow for no reason
THAT HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST INDIANAPOLIS 500S OF ALL TIME
It probably is

Pato isnāt even upset because this happens to him every year
Crazy work
That strategy was not the right one
Crazy finish
All now that thatās all done and Iāve recovered, Jesus was that some exciting racing every time the green flag was up

Hey, i will be watching NASCAR later for almost the 1st time ever (watched some bits here and there but never a full race).... How long is this Race gonna go? I assume its longer than the Indy500 but is there an estimate?
i mean its the longest nascar race of the year
600 miles/ 965 Km
so maybe 4+ hours
The Coke 600 is no joke. It's gonna be a long one, made longer by possible rain delays
What happened to the McLARENs
The Indy 500 today was unusually long because of rain
I was busy watching indy
Well Siegel is Siegel, Lundgaard's strategy didn't work out, and Pato just got caught off
Oh
Wrong McLaren's LOL
Im talking about f1 lol
Uh they kind of pulled a Ferrari
Wrong channel
No
No. Mclaren has an indycar team as well
Who won the 500?
Frosenqvist
It was only an hour longer than usual from my pov
Rosenqvist beat malukas in a photo finish

Holy shit
any one watching the coca cola 600?

who wouldnt be pissed tho
š° | Another Indy 500 near-miss for Pato O'Ward
I couldnāt bring myself to watch the Coca Cola 600 today, could someone sum it up š«£
YES
You know, one of the best/worst things about NASCAR is the win variability. Sometimes I look up a NASCAR driver and am surprised at how few wins they have. Then I remember that winning a NASCAR race is much more inconsistent due to a variety of factors. It's a great thing but sometimes inconvenient. However, I will never complain about more competition as a fan.

Yeah I'm watching it. Hopefully they can finish the race. They've made it so far.
Damn weather
Just glad the Indy 500 wasn't ended early, though
But damn I still feel so bad for Malukus. Hope his time comes.
Not saying he would have been guaranteed a win, but I think his chances were much better if it weren't a literal 1 lap shootout. He got doomed by that considering they had the slip stream. He defended extraordinarily well, but there's only so much you can do with all of them right behind you and only a single lap for you to do anything with them in the slipstream on your ass.
thank you so muchh
Why couldnāt you watch it?
Race is called
Race is official
NASCAR officials didnāt feel like staying up tonight
Cause that was way too fucking fast of a call
Daniel Suarez is the winner
Daniel Suarez pulled off the heist of the century!
No charlotte has a 1am curfew on sound
Shitty that the race ended that way, but shit happens. Good race overall. I would rate the main three races today Indy 500 > F1 Canada > Coca Cola 600. I could go back and forth on whether Coca Cola 600 or the F1 race was better. First half the F1 race? Better than the Coca Cola 600. Second half? Not so much, even if it had a moment or two.
I'm just happy the Indy 500 didn't get red flagged, i was very worried for awhile.
I agree. The officials were getting sleepy.
No my friend used to live in Charlotte. Thereās a curfew on noise and thatās 1 AM.
Well to be fair it's only 11:35pm
I mean tbf if it wasnāt a 2.5 mile track they couldāve dried it in time and restarted
And it takes about 100 minutes to dry
They canāt run the dryers with rain
It had started to stop raining already
And the radar didnāt have much left
Either way good race overall. Regardless if the call was warranted at least we got the vast majority of the race. Unfortunate that NASCAR/Indy can't run in the rain, but completely understandable. Even many circuit series like F1 don't really like running in the rain, and that's with run offs and lower average speeds.
Only on Ovals
*IndyCar can't run in the rain on ovals. They do on circuits
And short tracks
Looking forward to the race in Michigan soon. I haven't watched a NASCAR race (in person or otherwise) at Michigan in a long time. Might actually go back and watch last year's Michigan race or something. I'm just getting back into NASCAR. Been playing some of the games but wasn't watching any of it until recently.
Even NASCAR has wet tires for occasional races
Tbh I didnāt watch most of this race and was just going to watch the end (plus watched the first like 50 laps) so kinda annoyed
Iāll say this, the track was gone
They couldnāt have gotten it back going until 2am maybe
And frankly
No one wants to stay up that late
People have work tomorrow
Imo, in terms of race action this was the best Motorsport XMAS in recent memory
Indy 500 was generational
Aye
If only the rain had let all the racing for NASCAR go on
The lower series got screwed bad

what race is bigger than the indy 500?
it has higher attendance numbers than the 24 hours of le mans
š° | Citroenās innovative idea to revamp Formula Eās divisive Pit Boost
I would say this year the 24Hours of the Nürburgring. It had over 352.000 viewers only around the circuit and even more on the many livestreams. Also over 160 cars, that competed for the win in different classes. And Max Verstappen drove there. So technically the Indy 500 wasnt the biggest race this year in the world.
why would that be the deciding factor
with that logic the world cup final isnāt in the 10 biggest football games
and every grand prix is bigger than the indy 500
viewership wise
A single driver racing there doesnāt automatically mean it was the biggest race in the world
true, i didnāt consider the n24
I would say the 500 is the best race because of its history
what is the deciding factor then
Names like Foyt, Dixon, Castroneves and Montoya have won it
that wasnt the only thing in my answer to him
Even in the context of this year you can still make the point that most of the increase in viewership was solely because of Verstappen being there. If you were to show me the same heights in previous editions of the race Iād believe it
Yes you are right. In the previous years the numbers of the viewers werent that high. And in the last years it wasnt the biggest race. But this year it was.
You re right. Many famous and good drivers drove there and it is definitly one of the biggest races! But for me the best race is the n24. It also might be my favourite race, because im german and i am nearly every year there. And i can say that the history isnt even that bad as well. Maybe not as big than the Indy 500. But still pretty cool. I really recommend you to watch it when you re in germany.
International relevance and viewership
I can confidently say I have never heard anyone mention the Indy 500 in real life⦠full stop
then the score is 1:1
Viewership wise I doubt the Indy 500 gets half of what the average F1 race gets
lets hear the statistics
The average F1 race gets 76.1m viewers
since the 500 is normally on the same day as the 2 day monaco qualifying session i doubt that the single day viewership of f1 is higher than the 500
except this year when it was the canadian gp
Indy 500 data isnāt available worldwide, but the domestic numbers are about 7m
wouldn't the most popular race be the 24 Hours of Le Mans
Worldwide its probably about 30m if weāre being generous
it gets over 100 million i think views
Looking at international viewership for other America-centric sports

Ride along with racing legend Mario Andretti as he takes laps at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1966. This historic footage showcases the historic 1960s era at the Indianapolis 500.
In terms of attendance yeah obviously it is, although I would say the 24h of le mans is the greatest race mostly due to the prestige, history, length, popularity and the fact each car manufacturer builds their own car (mostly)
Iād definitely put the Indy 500 second tho, 100% the greatest open wheel race
Prestige & Length i can give to le mans
But history is definitely indy it's been around longer and popularity could go to either of them
And the fact of teams building their own car gets ruined by BOP
How GT3ās rise surpassed its creator's wildest expectations
Itās exactly 20 years since theĀ FIA GT3 Championship heralded a new era of sportscar racing. As a packed grid of 44 cars lined up at the Silverstone Circuit in 2006, few could have imagined the scale of success this category would go on to enjoy.

History yeah youāre probably right I donāt even remember when LM was first held, but popularity, for non race fans across the ENTIRE world I do think Le Mans edges it

Europe and Asia probably le mans

whilst i hope this happens
i fear it is unlikely
siegel would be cool but they already have jensen/vanthoor/lynn(?) and i assume theyāll take verschoor too
and when you have those 4 you can just fill with whoever you want, maybe the off cuts of toyota when estre joins and some random lmgt3 driver
I mean if you cross the line first you win the race (yes, lower classes can and have won races overall before)
A GT Porsche won Petit Le Mans in 2015 for example

it was popular back in the early 1900s when they did racing on horse racing tracks (which are commonly ovals) and they never really evolved past that
road courses are a lot more popular now but oval racing is still prominent

Rest in peace but yeah what an insanely scary and risky tournament/sport
I bet it's cool to see but is something cool worth it being deadly?
The first rule I was thought was do whatever but if it means truly risking your life nothing is worth your life
rest in peace
but also
only 3 editions exist in the entire history of the isle of man tt where nobody lost their life, i think that says enough about this event
Yeah it's insane
Yeah I mean
Being real
The TT always ends up with a body count
Itās tragic but
At the same time
Everyone who goes to the TT knows about the risks, and they go anyways
Itās not the most prestigious racing event, hell I donāt even know if you could call it the most prestigious Motorcycle racing event
But people go anyways
And frankly, if you know going into it that you have a high chance of not coming back out
And go anyways
Then frankly, that risk was on you
I do too, one can only hope though because Nolan is dope to watch in prototypes and I would be cool to see Fornaroli in the N-Strike Elite looking ahh #6 Arrow Mclaren
it truly is insane
i grew up there and theres no way the isle of man government ever outlaws it due to the money it brings
this year has started worse than normal, and that's really saying something
its insane just how narrow the roads they race through are, they are even smaller and narrower in person
the riders do know the risks, and even other racing drivers think they're insane for doing it
sidecar races have been scrapped for this year because of a hideous crash where the sidecar got far too much air due to aerodynamic regs

Street circuits shouldn't count tbh
^
Dublin Street Circuit :DDDD
kinda wish it was raced on, at least it would have meant racing to a nice view of NYC
there is a lot of things outside the track designers hands with street circuits
I honestly think Baku is a well designed circuit
When you're given a city and only a certain number of streets you can use, you would be pretty limited
also I liked Korea tbh
Absolutely agree Matt about Baku. I've always been a Baku defender though
Baku isn't too bad imo
i like to drive baku but i dont hugely like the circuit
I actually really like the atmosphere on the Baku circuit
It's a mighty quick power track on city streets with tight enclosed walls
it's great for it's age
The downhill triple left hander after the castle section is sex
Red Bull Ring's alright too
Red Bull Ring = A1 Ring
But that's just me
And I like it too
i prefer the old layout 110%
Last year's race was fucking awful
modern track is a bit boring
imo
needs less of those really slow and wide corners
I kinda like the sharp turns
and the 3rd sector of the track is really fun to drive in games
When you hook up a lap really nicely it feels great
Worst Tilke tracks have to be Valencia, Abu Dhabi and COTA
Valencia is kinda notorious among fans reputation wise
we could be having this year's Spanish GP there, if the alternating tracks deal kept, since it had the race swap between Catalunya and Valencia on a yearly basis
Valencia is again a victim of street circuit syndrome
so we would have had Valencia in 2014, 16, this year, etc
I thought it was great to drive a lap of, super challenging
But the racing was pretty dull

Moving the conversation from #formula-1 over here
Yeah, fair enough
So the race is pretty much divided in 3 smaller races? š
Or 4 even..
Sorry, NASCAR race
its widely regarded as an awful system amongst fans iirc
^
I can obviously see that.
I shudder at Olympics Mass Start speed skating š
They wanted to replicate the points race of cycling, but fuck it up completely š
I mean, it does add entertainment when drivers race hard at times when, without stage racing, they would just be going about their merry way
But back to things with engines and cars.
But even then, the racing is so not close it almost doesnāt even matter
I honestly think NASCAR was way too hasty with introducing the Car of Tomorrow
I mean, sure, safety is amazing
But when it compromised the racing by that much, thereās something wrong
And then they rushed the Gen 6 car as well
i will say this if they hadn't been so hasty with the CoT michael mcdowell probably wouldn't be alive today
like in the old cars he'd have been ded
the fact that the gen 6 cars are even more aero sensitive than the COT which was already pretty bad to begin with is
kinda wild
Wait, but why is Nascar pushing to an aero sensitive build?
I thought Nascar was more about the high speed fights?
I have no damn clue why theyāre pushing more aero sensitive then
Theyāre making it less about downforce
And more about sideforce
Which makes bumper to bumper racing impossible on 1.5 mile+ ovals
That is also not useful at all.
Itās incredibly stupid
š¤¦
āample leewayā
gives driver $25K fine for critiquing the car
Brian France lacing his pockets with Denny Hamlinās money, kek
Then thereās this, which would have essentially fixed all of the problems we have today with the Gen 6 car, but noooooooooooo, it had to be scrapped
NASCAR is just continually shooting itself in the foot, but every time it shoots itself, it aims the gun slightly higher
Come someone remind me to find thst article in favor of adding to the aero in NASCAR
@safe mango find that article in favour of adding to the aero in NASCAR
. . .
that is such a sexy car
Ah, the superfan/anonymous Porsche employee is still active.

does it clash with race?
Rallycross has quite short races so it's easy to watch them later imo
i completely forgot that WTCR and FE also have races this weekend
Alain Prost is to leave the @RENAULTedams team in order to focus on his #F1 commitments:
https://t.co/3L7bdruZo8 @FIAFormulaE

Probably wants to focus on f1
Damn
O
The great Alain Prost
its because he is not nissan personnel
but doesn't Nismo has their own entry in FE?
Theyāre taking over the Renault entry I think.
Yup
oh
Renault and Nissan share part ownership of each other, so it makes sense.
It'll be nissan e.dams instead of renault e.dams
wouldn't be first or last time when some corporation would have multiple brands racing against each other
but using Nissan in electric series makes more sense as well
NEWS: #NASCAR is buying @ARCA_Racing, press conference confirmation coming shortly
Arca racing?
yes
What is that
euronascar
Imma need more screens to vvatch all these races
the euro series is based they just need non-shit streams
like im talking more than three cameras on track
So I visited an Autocross event today (I'll also go there tomorrow) and I shot the most perfectly timed picture of my life

<@&265886100227096576>: Just out of curiosity, whatās the spoiler policy for non-F1 content in here? Is it a free-for-all or does discussion follow the same 24 hour guide as F1?
Not calling out anything in particular just wondering for future reference.
same 24h rule
Cool. Would that mean that we need a #live-motorsports channel or should we just use this one?
Can use here for spoilers and stuff about other motorsports. Just keep it away from the other places :)

Is the 6 hours of spa this weekend?
later this month I think.
Apparently it's on saturday
Looks so good
FIA triggered too fast on the halo.
Vettel said the shield deformed the image. Not sure what was wrong with the RedBull aeroscreen.
FIA wasn't too fast. Teams were too slow in offering alternatives instead of fighting it.
Don't forget the halo was supposed to go in in 2017.
The shield only had 2 or 3 runs done with it?
Yes, but it was shown in the last stages of last year.
If they took more time, maybe they could've made it work.
But to be honest , the best solution world be to close the cockpit, kinda like a fighter jet.
"but muh tradition"
I think the wiindscreen would do best. It will actually deflect objects instead of kicking into the driver. Also Engress is still no issue. Cockpit no good egress. AKA Alonsos AUS crash as example. Coolin is an issue too.
@naive pasture yeah the 6 hours of Spa is this weekend
i can't watch spa because i don't speak spa-nish

O
[SOUND ON] Super Season has officially started with TOTAL #6hSpa FP1 underway!
What else is better than having Eau Rouge + Raidillon + #WEC cars?
fastest non-hybrid slower by 1s
Ow
only fp1 tho
installation laps probably
better timing https://timing.71wytham.org.uk/s/wec_beta
0.2 behind the slower hybrid atm
Rebellion only ~.4 off Toyota
Seems fair enough
Ooof, this might be interesting to watch š
If I found an outlet to watch it on >.<
Crikey, only the evening for 90 minutes š¦
I mean, fine Giro d'Italia is up for Eurosport. Fair enough.
Okay, will bother with that tomorrow

No. 8 @Toyota_Hybrid TS050 HYBRID driven by @alo_oficial set the fastest lap during Free Practice 1 in 1.58.392. Let's get onboard! š

Manor having financial issues in WEC
honestly ffs
I get why they failed in F1, they got screwed over in 2010 and prize money for slow teams is pitiful.
Sad to see them hurting in WEC. I wonder if itās because of the move up to LMP1?
@fair cliff bg?
ah
Also currently it's speculated that they'll pull out the no. 6 car.
The one with Brundle, Oliver Rowland and Oliver Turvey in it. (Which would piss me off tho)
The 5 car will apparently remain since it's factory backed by Ginetta.
That would be gut wrenching if they did that
I'm really looking forward to seeing how that holds up
I also think it's funny that Alonso gets in a Toyota
It'a almost like a free pass, would take a huge balls up for Rebellion to catch them
What the fuck
I thought Manor had serious China backing
nevermind
reading articles on /r/wec
fuck CEFC
where was you when maldonado lead the LMP2 class on his first practice session :DDDD
:DDDDDDDDDD
:DDDDDDDDDDD
toyota's 2018 car is so fucking sexy
is this the year of toyota?
fernando will bring his shitty luck tbh
he led fp2 too
I mean, if Toyota don't have any reliability problems, they're probably gonna walk it this year
