Daniel and Norris had split strategies. Daniel started the race on a much faster tyre and was all over the back of Norris, who was holding him up and backing him up into Gasly. The team told Daniel to hold station. Daniel checked that they were aware of Gasly and then accepted the hold station very calmly and professionally.
Late in the race, with about 5-10 laps to go, the positions were reversed: Daniel was now in front and Norris was behind in the faster tyre. In repayment for the team order early in the race (as holding station had wrecked Daniel's race), McLaren issued a hold station to Norris. Norris got on the radio and screamed "why?" His engineer explained that it was to pay Daniel back for the earlier favour. Norris screamed "WHY?" back and continued to scream on the radio, then proceeded to get right up close to Daniel and feinting as if to overtake. Zak Brown was asked about it on the post-race and was clearly embarrassed, and it was reported Norris got a bit of a dressing-down afterwards.
