overdriving the car would mean you would go slower, because you're trying to extract more of the car than it can handle. The best driver in a given car is the benchmark for that cars performance. So it is not a case of Max performing miracles, but a case of Checo just underperforming. Any adaptable driver would be able to get on with what they are given, and Max just happens to be a natural at that
