He tried to compensate for the loss of performance by overdriving the car. Lewis found the same issues. Seems to be a limited car, which has extreme pace but only in very specific circumstances

Ironically, he did a really good job, the quali lap he was on had him in 2nd at that point... but that's kind of the issue, he was so utterly on the limit that the car had nothing to give.

So before every tyre compound was given a specific color but nowadays whichever 3 compounds are selected for the race are given red yellow and white based on relative softness, irrespective of how soft they actually are

They will be labeled red yellow and white

In another race Pirelli decides soft medium and hard
They will also be labeled red yellow and white

Before the colors were an absolute marker of the softness of the compound, now they are only relative markers of the softness of the tyres to each other
