I don’t think so. See, he loses tons of lap time on the other drivers just a few laps after start because he’s probably the most aggresive on the tyres out there. If he managed to get a well timed overcut, he could then have an easy time on mediums before the end of the race, overtaking all the other drivers that are on hards.

Exactly, if he started with the hards, he wouldn’t have to save tyres, he could do the first laps with the aggresive style he’s used to. My point is that he is somewhat close to McLaren at every race in the first few laps, then the tyres get f*cked and he drifts away for a long time before it’s even possible to pit in order to keep the one stop strategy. Then he gets on hards and closes the gap but it’s usually not enough to win(it was this way before the summer break and now it was on everyone except Lando)

And if he went aggressive with hard tyres at the start,he would have to stop earlier than the predicted strategy and thus he would lose anyway

That’s a good point. However, if you take a close look at Silverstone, he started to close the gap on Lando with soft tyres immediately. It wasn’t due to Norris’ tyre deg since the tyres were fresh so I think he could manage to keep a decent pace against drivers on mediums. What I’m not sure about though, is if he wouldn’t f*ck up a race start by wheel spin on hards

Renault employees at the F1 base at Viry-Chatillon will go on strike on Friday in protest at plans to close the F1 engine programme after next year. There will also be a protest at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza from employees in the grandstand. Not to affect team activities
