Well. The race distance is 305km minimum so it's 305km plus whatever is remaining on the track after 305. Spa for example is ~308km. Spielberg is ~306km.

Teams do anywhere between 20-30 laps in each FP1-2 session and lower in fp3 . And say 6 laps across qualifications accounting for 2 runs in each making it to q3. Let's account for 2 formation and cooldown laps.

So that's roughly 25+25+20+6+2=78 laps roughly.

At spa that's 78 x 7 = 546 km.that's 308+546=854 km. So you're not far off from the 800km mark.

Taking the last Spanish GP which F1 used to love for testing and with winner Max as an example :

Fp1 : 32 laps

Fp2 : 34 laps

Fp3 : 14 laps
