Right. A contract between Lewis and Mercedes can restrict what Lewis does, but it cannot restrict what Ferrari or Mercedes' other employees do. So, the contract might prevent Lewis from actively recruiting Mercedes personnel from moving to Ferrari but that leaves Ferrari lots of room to maneuvre. On the other hand, are non-compete clauses common in F1 contracts? Perhaps Mercedes' contracts with its engineers might directly restrict them from going to a competitor. Though, from what I've seen from the outside, I think that's unlikely.

I'm concerned as to how he'll fare tomorrow. Not that he doesn't have the pace to work his way up into the points, but that the attrition is going to be brutal. He doesn't have experience of going all out in a race for an hour and a half around a street circuit.

This isn't like De Vries in Monza (where if you make a mistake it's just grass or gravel). This is one of the hardest tracks on the calendar by a large margin to be on it for all 50 laps.
