Williams eventually helped him fund a drive for F2 with Carlin alongside Lawson. He did well for someone who lacked extra money for private testing, and matched his significantly more experienced teammate Lawson. He also never got any of the F1 testing that Piastri did, because again, he couldn't afford to get those tests and Williams were not able to fully fund his junior development. He was pretty quick at times last year, just he had a lot of confidence issues that started from small errors at the start of the season. I mean jeez in Jeddah his first Q1 lap would've been enough for P4 at the time, but then he just crossed the pitlane line and it was deleted, then he spun on his second attempt trying to gain more time.
