Wood = cheap as fuck

Build track in attractive location
They even build one in Soldier Field in Chicago

Get like 2 events in with big crowds

And then pull out of the investment with cash in the bag

#

Investors knew these things would only last like 3 or 4 years if you were lucky but that was basically their entire purpose, they were insanely cheap to build, could generate quite a bit of money for a few years and then you could just leave before the wood became too worn out or the entire thing burned down

In 1991, the first race of the season was at a street circuit in the US city of Phoenix. Just before the race (or after) Phillip Morris, Marlboro's parent company, had McLaren along to the Phoenix International Raceway to do a photoshoot.

And when they were done, McLaren decided to use the time they had the track wisely.

Enjoy! And remember to...

NASCAR has a very long history with interesting stories throughout
IndyCar has some very interesting history also about how the series evolved, split, controversies, reuniting
Rally ofc also had great stories with things like for example Group B
Ofc sportscar racing, IMSA/WEC nowadays, have long histories spanning beyond their current iterations, with some amazing stories throughout, especially some super sketchy IMSA stories, and also the fascinating series that was the Can Am Challenge Series
