Welcome to 2000

During Thursday's qualifying session, Mark Webber's #4 Mercedes-Benz CLR went off in a big way and flipped at high speed at the fast approach towards Indianapolis and the driver was taken away by ambulance. But later on he was fine to carry on with his weekend at Le Mans.
Well the good news is that the #4 Mercedes has been rebuilt over night, s...

I hope its fine 😶 Car is self built but Group B and older than 2001 but the bic itself is from 2010 so i hope its fine🙃
I think its fine, its based off a much older car

If Gerhard Berger drove a Gebhardt, wouldn’t that make him Gebhardt Berger?
Which car ?
they just leave it right in front of glass? someone could do a james bond thing and steal it
Yh big ooooo, we still have it. Runs like a Boss. Maybe im allowed to drive it in the MJP Arena soon✨😮

Do it for Dale
can-am had his own special cars, like this monster.
That first livery was the best one they ran.
What car is that?
Lola T332 I think
Ok, thanks

When indy got too high on american fumes
And was like Europeans doing something American? AAAAAAA
okay, what is that?
An Interscope-Porsche Indycar
This is the car that had the engine the 956 would eventually get
oooh
It was a 2.65L B6, with Turbski, per usual, and Porsche rocked up with it and America got a little worried and didn't want them to
peugeot 205
hesitating between the Quattro and the Delta
Peugeot did nothing new
it could also be the Stratos.. which is the first car that purposedly designed for rallying
they brought the 1st transverse gearbox to rallying
and the aero was basically an F1 car with a shell
and the aero was basically an F1 car with a shell
you'll have to expand on this argument
so.. wings?
yep
I think it was the first use of a big wang to generate downforce properly
Audi had to follow suit with their snowplough aero
and lancia compensated with more powah
Ramp wings werent really new
these existed back in 69 tho
and iirc this car was very successful
rallying
oh my bad

Listen to the sounds of the mighty Offenhauser engine recorded from the infield of the Indianapolis State Fair Grounds mile dirt track at the 1969 Hoosier Hundred.

Finally, the Vernasca Silver Flag is back, proud to celebrate its 25th anniversary in this 2021 edition. After two years of absence, the expectation from participants and the public was very high. I can say that another unforgettable edition was staged. Despite a small number of participants with around 160 starting cars, the level was spectacul...
you look in awe
Ah I love lancias
mine should hopefully be off for some final mechanical work to put it on the road by the end of the year
with prices skyrocketing, I'd be stupid to not take it to the endzone
Which model do you have?
76 beta montecarlo (called the Scorpion in the USA)
Cool car
Not a huge fan of the bumpers but still very cool
yes the usa bumpers are huge
The euro ones are nicer imo
How do you find barn finds?
Because I want to know:
Is it legal?
Will I be able to find some?
of course it's illegal to trespass
barn finds are about who you know, how well you pay attention to your surroundings
this one came out of left field not because of the lancia, but because of an MGB
we knew about the MGB, and it was a friend of a friend
they wanted to keep the MGB so they offered an exchange, trailer the MGB to your house, fix it and drive it back to mine and you can trailer away the lancia
we found it like this
took nearly a day to dig it out and get it onto the driveway
I would love to restore a beautiful car
it takes a tremendous amount of time and money
That would need a ton of work
Any electrical problems?
After restoration?
yep, i wouldn't even call it restoration, i'd call it 'resurrection'
get it running, make it safe, make everything work, clean the hell out of it and drive
British Racing Green
New brakes
Also wire spoke wheels amazing
carb rebuilds
refiltered fuel
I'm about halfway thru this same basic set of work on the lancia, but i have more money than time so I am paying someone to finish the job
wow
fun stuff, eh?
it sure is!
Me sliding into ur mums dms
So... A restomod? Either way it's gorgeous
not really going to do any mods, it'll be another resurrection. if i was to mod it, it'd get an alfa V6 under the bonnet 😄

Less than 0.1 litre per cylinder
iirc, BRM got the racing tech looted by the british during the war
Why do I feel like that's not in the current location

It's just a concept art
Also... it's titled Oval

I think it's the old design, a continuation

ive heard alot about group b cars but what is group s?
Lancia - ECV 1: This prototype was designed to compete in Group S rally, which was a kind of Group B but a little less extreme, with the end of the group and with fear of more fatal accidents, this group was canceled.
Lancia ECV 2: This was derived from the creation of the ECV1 that was dismantled after it did not achieve the desired results in the tests carried out by Lancia.
Here is another from Group S, Audi Sport Quattro RS 002, as said Walter Rohrl was very surprised by the behavior of the car in the private tests given by Audi highlighting the Aerodynamics
Lada S- Proto Rally Group S:
Planned to debut in 1988 after the Group B replacement was announced, Group S had the absurd rule of only making 10 homologation vehicles this in an attempt to attract more manufacturers, this car was built only as a prototype but is said to I would have been a decent contender
||Putin likes this||
Ford - rs200s Group S: this prototype, identical to its "brother" of Group B, was characterized by having a lighter body, made of more advanced materials for the time.
Another car of the extinct Group S
Toyota MR2 222D: After the creation of the Group S Toyota was announced, it decided to go crazy since the regulation only required that there be 10 homologation car
OH I FORGOR ABOUT THE TOYOTA
Group S was gonna go for a power of around 300 bhp by 2.4 N/A or 1.2L T/C units
Which went up to 3L and 2L plated engines respectively
Group S looked so cool
Have the ascended 1994 Rahal-Hogan Penske

Demolition is scheduled for late october.
Of what year? Because the last time I heard anything it was saying that next year’s race will be on the big track and that no approval from the local council had been given for reconfiguration.
I heard 2023.
that looks cool

are these the auto union monsters with da supercharged inline 8's?
They were V16's chief
Even better
@manic sierra
Checc them logs chief
Why?
The silver arrows were the German cars as a whole
*20's
30's*
yeah i gotta get my decades correct lol
The Auto Union Typ.C was a 6,008cc Twin-sequential-Supercharged V16, at 520bhp~
The Mercedes W125 was a 5,662cc Supercharged straight 8 with 560~
literally made more power than a mk7 gti does........at just above idle
see highest test bed power
...
I was gonna go onto the AVUS/Rekordwagens
AVUS w/ the streamlined auto unions and mercs
oh ok
i love the old peugeots too
worlds first dohc engine
Coz the DAB V12 was makin' into the 700's
and triple overhead cam too
rly?
oh i just saw
but that was a top speed monster
wouldnt have survived a race
According to Mercedes themselves, even tho some peeps say 30hp higher
The AVUS and Rekordwagen models had the DAB 5,577cc V12, making 735bhp at 5,800
wow
the alfas were amazing too @blazing drift
back in the day when il commentadore was head of the team
the vittorio jano cars
yupp
It was a 4.5L S/C V12 of the top of my head
yeah its av12
not sure about the s/c tho
Yeah a 4,475cc V12 with 430bhp
good for 1930's
The supercharger J think is down there with the fins
They put them in funky lcoations and usually upright
is it a g-lader?
like the golf g60 style s/c?
looks like...............big bore
Wdym?
I find it interesting how Alfa managed to complete and avus without the streamlined bodywork
Bye
Okie
Wdym?
They were able to compete against the auto unions and mercs
Even though they didn't have special streamlined bodywork
Probably coz theirs' was still in the weight limit
AVUS was not regulated, and so the AVUS/Stromlines were a fair bit heavier
Yeah I think they won one of the races, pissing off the Germans a bit
Pog

Oh god… he’s gonna do it to Hans Joachim Stuck’s DTM machine in a later video

Bro don't... Even
I haven't heard the R8 until recently
For a TT, FPV8, of only like 3.6
That thing sounds so damn beefy
Like externally it's pretty par for the course but onboards sound mean
The R8’s a legend
Oh I'm aware
This is the thing when something's so utterly dominant... If it's out of nowhere you love it but otherwise its pain

i prefer the 98 personally 🙂
the picture i saw of the 99 had less white
As far as I'm aware, bar maybe logo changes, the 1998 and 1999 livery was the same
Then they went back to the proper noice one
looking at it again, i've been fooled by the pics and perspectives
Oooh... C5.R
And yet, they still got stomped on that year by the Vipers.

I wish Dodge would give the Viper program another chance, but since most of our car companies would rather make generic nonsense, that likely won't happen.
It's funny how the American auto industry doesn't listen to the advice of its own pioneers:
"A business that makes nothing but money is a poor business." - Henry Ford
Every business ever
Sadly. I'm glad Chevrolet still has the Corvette racing programs going, at least.
But, I don't think that really makes up for the loss of the Viper, and especially the Ford GT.
breh indy car almost copied f1
If u think Marlboro livery was only in f1 you’re wrong
The Rothmans livery is somewhere behind it.
If we aren't talking cigarette companies, absolutely.
Marlboro is the reigning champion of the cigarette liveries.
Castrol is the reigning champion of the oil liveries.
Martini, of the alcohol liveries.
Ah…. you hit the nail right on the head
Just a shame that Marlboro red on these cars was just not as red as these pics make em out
Then again this is the reason I adore this Penske instead
i think martini's liverys look better than Marlboro

The Mercedes M291
Shame the M292 never got to be used

Where was this used?
The Sauber C291 and never raced in the C292
But the C292 was gonna get as high as 690hp @ "only" 12,900rpm but it could rev a bit further than that so idek how powerful it was

Group A > Group B
That’s kinda bold
But the delta was used in Group B beforehand
Also, you saying group a > group b may be bold, but it isn’t as bold as me saying
Group A Touring Cars > Group A Rally
Now you're just acting like a dumbass
Group B introduced a lot of standard rally ideas.
Forced induction, four-wheel-drive, aero.
You had the greatest variety, too.
Rear-wheeled cars competing against four-wheeled, front-engined competing against mid and rear-engined.
Group B was the peak of rallying
Rallying after Group B was still great, as was Group A.
We got the center-locking differentials, then.

I mean, it would make sense.
The closest relative of an open-wheel car is perhaps a prototype.
It's much like Fernando hopping between the two, nowadays.
Lost videos of the Delta S4 during development. I'm not sure who had them archived.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViGgVVNrhtI
I saw this a while ago, but never thought to share it.
You can see this was before it had the aerodynamics we've come to know it for.
The 'snowplow' is only a little lip, and a temporary, experimental wing crosses the rear window.
It's much closer to the homologation model in this state.
they also had an equally slapdash test 037 with the new S4 engine in it
That makes a lot of sense, actually. I was wondering why the box-truck had an 037 lid in the back.
Perhaps it wasn't on-site at the time of the filming, though. I imagine it would have been parked somewhere.
That, or there was only one engine to begin with, and it got scrapped.
Seeing as that's like what happened with the ECV 1 and 2, I wouldn't be surprised.
was group 5 cars the same models that were in group b rally at the time?
Group 5 touring cars were used in the late Seventies, primarily.
I retract this, by the way. For some reason I was thinking of Group C prototypes.
If you take out 'prototypes' and replace it with 'Group 5 cars', though, it still makes sense. They shared a lot in common with the Formula 1 cars of the time.
- Early aero, early slicks, and high power.
Group 5 and group 4 became group B

Porsche 944 LM at Le Mans 1981, driven by the hands of Walter Röhrl.
The 944 GTP is often forgotten, and it's unfair.
It's the same case with the 924 rally car that Rohrl drove three years earlier.
Porsche really went full-on into making the car the best it could possibly be, and it worked. It's a shame that the front-rear Porsche is no longer around.
I'm surprised too about that matter, it actually won Le Mans that year.

I have a hard time picking a favorite DTM car from its peak era.
It's a hard three-way tie between the 155, AMG, and Calibra.
The Calibra liveries were simply fantastic.
It’s a close one between the 190E, 155, and the W202 for me
I love the AMG so much.
They took the original Group A 190E and brought it into the next generation very well.
It shared a livery with the GT1 cars too, not to forget.
That's a GTR tho
The LM has skme... More uncanny bodywork
It was the transitional period between the GTR and CLR, wasn't it?
Yes, for 1998

I find it entertaining that even with a dramatic aerodynamic revamp, they kept the chrome grille.

Which, in retrospect, practically was the case.

I think Volkswagen's early efforts in rally need attention.
The Golf rally cars did very well in the Eighties and Nineties.
Never knew the Golf did rallying
For a long time, even today, Golfs were great starter cars. Throughout North America and Europe, you see them entered in two or front-wheel-drive categories.
The highest the Golf got in regards to professional rally was F2, with a dedicated kit car.
Ooh. Normally I would see Golfs used for hillclimb racing.
It makes total sense, really. If you want to get into four-wheel-drive rally classes, you'll likely get a WRX. If you want to get into two or front-wheel-drive classes, you'll likely get a Fiesta.
- And of course, the Golf and Fiesta are not far from one-another.
They're easily affordable and available, when you need replacement parts.
Why Volkswagen hardly ever capitalized with official entries is beyond me.
Yes, replacement parts for golfs are easy to find
Volkswagen's factory-supported rallying history is really only defined by the F2 Golf, Rally 1 Polo, and R5 Polo.
A trashcan destroyed the side view mirror, we got a new one from a junkyard for cheap
So good for rally, when breaking things is just how it works
- Lightweight and easy to drive, too, of course.
Pretty durable too

Over the years, it has become one of the most renowned photographs of kisses and a symbol of young audacity and passion. The magazine Life gave fame to the photograph after it published it in its May 1957 issue, under the title "Death finally takes a man who courted it".
