The character ended up being a character used mainly to think we are going to be doing a big detective story but really was used in a humorous way. And I absolutely loved that twist. For the show they made him a much bigger character and Cory being one of the designers for the show fleshed out his design. And you have the episode that was released today, 23 years later from Damien’s first appearance in my first issue. The single fill-in issue that I finished pencils and inks in 2 weeks that impressed Robert enough to ask me to stay on as the permanent artist.

INVINCIBLE VS CONQUEST! SPOILER ALERT! For you process junkies, I used to draw right on Robert’s script. For those that don’t know how we made Invincible, I get the script from the writer which is Robert Kirkman, and then I as the artist read the script and visualize the scene

I love how open Ryan is about the process behind making the comics, he posts stuff like this everyday and you don't see artists do it that often
