It's supposedly temporary, but they haven't said a word about portal since they disabled it. But I think they have to re enable it since they clearly promoted that you would be able to level up and progress trough all 3 game modes.

The fact that exp is STILL disabled is quite clear a DICE management decision... They know for a fact everyone wants to play portal....

I think it's all about priorities at the moment, stability probably being the focus at the moment, Portal being heavily over used the first day probably hit the servers pretty hard. With xp being disabled this obviously pushes players to AOW which probably evens things out more until they are able to improve on overall stability and to overcome the first couple of weeks of inflated server load.

The issue isn't that it's priority.... Ripple Effect is an entirely different studio - formerly DICE LA. It's being developed on the side, and is favored by the community. This clearly screams design issues, and DICE doesn't like that one bit. It shouldn't have taken a week with zero communication to fix the problems it had, yet here we are.

It's evidently clear that DICE do not want players to flood to Portal for some reason, and they're being silent about it.

Well it's still all and the same game sharing the same issues, the main problem was of course the xp farming, and them not having a fix for this day 1 which I don't really understand why they didn't, probably because just not having the time, having to focus on game breaking issues instead. server capacity is another, since the global quota of servers have been full since day one. first couple of weeks will always have inflated numbers of players playing around the clock, sometimes companies just wait this out.

But the issue isn't that there are other problems. As described by DICE, Ripple Effect are working on Portal, not the main game. If DICE have issues that are preventing Portal from even having EXP enabled, then what is Ripple Effect doing? We haven't heard a single word from DICE.

To top it off, the servers are free and it will always be like this no matter what. They need to charge for the servers... $40 for 128 players would make DICE hundreds of thousands of dollars, but they made it free and refuse to do anything about the over-population because of THEIR decisions

If Ripple effect have 100% control of Portal then the XP issue would be on their end. Since there were no restrictions implemented on how different server settings would effect xp which obviously should have been there. I think they hoped there would just be a couple of server here and there that exploited this, and could mainly be ignored until they found the time to make a real fix. Then xp farming servers ended up dominating the server browser and they could not just ignore it and wait it out. and as a quick fix they just disabled xp. Hopefully they are now working on making a real fix that changes xp earned based on the settings you choose for your servers, bot difficulty level, health percentage etc, which could potentially take some time to do correctly.

1. There is very little to no bloom/random deviation on BF3 tuning.

2. The maps work great with 128p and really should have been in the base game. Even the new layouts for Valparaiso and Arica Harbor are great.

my personal opinion is that player made servers should still have XP as long as they don't cross a certain threshold i.e heavily modified to the point of exploiting. The portal editor has the parameters to measure and track this kind of stuff so it should be relatively easy to register how heavily modified an experience will be

No it's not really as simple as that. It's based off Scratch and is a pretty full featured programming like language.

One is getting stuck when downed and not being able to redeploy (why have they removed the redeploy option from the pause menu???), second one is not being able to revive people when they're near geometry, and the third one is random crashes at the end of games or more recently DirectX function errors when changing loadouts in BF3 official portal experience

So I've done some testing in solo/co-op AoW and unfortunately it's capped, you can get to T3 mastery on any weapons, gadgets, specialists or vehicles; however progression past that doesn't count.

Portal as far as I know still has no progression at all and limited XP. This is a step in the right direction for solo/co-op AoW but it should allow all unlocks so, T1,T2,T3,T4 and T5.

All weapons can unlock all attachments: 360 Kills (CAP)

All vehicles can unlock all upgrades: 720 Kills (CAP)

Specialists vary depending on the criteria, so for instance Mackay requires kill from a height advantage as Mackay. He has a 360 Kills (CAP)

That’s stupid man. This is why I stopped playing. I’m at level 98, and there’s no point. What’s the point of playing portal if nothing essentially matters? It’s ridiculous. Why punish us for a small minority? I only have 3 guns I don’t have at tier 1, because I am genuinely struggling with them. I’ve grinder all weapons & armour in this game. I got both tanks/choppers to tier one on launch day, and because of a few people boasting xp all of us are punished. How is that fair???? I tried playing break through, but found so many bugged lobbies. EA said we could play multiplayer with bots till lobbies filled up, but haven’t found that feature, yet the beta had it. This game has so much potential, but it’s been squandered

Well it can be quite damaging to have these kind of boosting methods, many see xp/level as a status/currency/bragging rights. people boosting makes these levels lose value. Not saying all players think of it like this, but a big portion do. Which is why it's needs to get fixed. Still there should have been fixes for this day one, as it was more than obvious that this would occur.

Yeah, but levels don’t equal to anything. I’ve destroyed level 500 daily on battlefield 5. Max level in bf1, 4 & even here. I’ve seen better level 20s then level 500s😂 skill trumps anything, but I know what you mean. Done people are for whatever reason intimidated by higher levels. Probably stems from call of duty mw2. But people will boost no matter what is in place or what they do. Once a booster, always a booster in my book. Kinda like stats. Yeah, I'd rather play a game that i enjoy the feel of over hell let loose. Also, when did i ever mention camping? If I'm posted up to defend an objective from a distance why should I just run in and risk dying and losing the objective when I can keep people off of it efficiently and without dying? Also, my shot hits before somebody else's in a gunfight doesn't require skill? If they shoot first and miss and I hit them, I win or vice versa. It still requires skill and accuracy. Or at the very least, it was luck. I enjoy faster ttks, lower health, and higher risk. But just like you say if I dont want to play core that I should play a different game, if you don't want to deal with campers and higher TTK, you can stick to core.

Are you sure? I played yesterday, and only got 50 xp once, and that was it. Kills didn’t count for any progress in n camos, and I got no xp at the end. It ruined it for me. Even portal. Only played 3 times now, and I’m not ever going too again until xp & progression is back. So a few people boosted, and??? It’s not like I’ve not seen people using mods in public multiplayer which is pretty freaking obvious, and Dice “we have a no tolerance policy”. Bull####. There’s people using mod packs, and nothing is done about it😂

I think progression is back in AOW, but you are capped to T3 on all unlocks. I've tested it and you can't get past T3, fortunately enough it's high enough for you to unlock all attachments, and upgrades.

There is a progression bug in the game that hasn't yet been fixed so it could be that, although I agree that you should be able to unlock all tiers in AOW.

Like what ive said before, whats the big deal with people farming xp anyways that they had to resort to extreme measures to stop it? Guns and their attachments shouldnt be locked behind progression anyways. It's an fps game ffs, you are meant to use those guns which by the way is part of the base game that you have already paid for. Some have argued that "progression is important because it gives incentive to the players". Well, you can give incentives in different ways, like skins, medals, ribbons... things that are purely cosmetic and wouldnt affect gameplay.
