I've played BF4 since it's launch at least a 100h per year. And most of the time spent on is on HC servers. I really wish they implemented HC in the game. Or even just servers with lower TTK.

Conquest is and has been the best game mode. I don't mind no TDM option.

Portal servers open up the opportunity for players to Admin their portal servers in some way, set a password, kick or ban players possibly (haven't paid huge attention to admin menu tbh) so without the regular battlefield servers having dedicated server options that was your only option to get that while earning XP

3. On harder difficulties they can shoot you through skyscrapers, out of jets, helicopters, and even tanks.
4. A good middle ground to learn the maps and weapons against.
5. They have unpredictable accuracy sometimes.
6. They never use jets for some reason.
7. They always have the recoiless M5 in their loadout.

PvP AI

1. Basically the same except you'll encounter more lag/frame rate issues.
2. You'll only get rewards and progression on AoW and HZ. (Not solo/co-op AoW)
3. The AI still won't use jets.
4. The AI still only have recoiless M5's in their loadouts.
5. Aim is really a game of heads and tails, hit detection is a real toss of a coin too.
6. They get replaced when a player joins the game.

Basically right now you can play in solo/coop AoW and get everything under mastery 1. Meaning you can get the first few attachments for guns and vehicles. But you are capped at mastery 0 and cannot progress further. I think this isn't going to change because EA needs players to play on AoW to keep the playerbase addicted to that feeling of needing to best their fellow humans and gamer rage. EA is probably also thinking of selling shortcut packs like previous titles to make impatient players who don't want to grind pay for the attachments. It's sad that even after paying 60$ for a game, EA still wants to squeeze every last drop of money out of their players. Such is the reality of minmax business models.

You can however still progress your rank though in solo AoW, so if you want to level up fast you can by using solo AoW and beginner bots, but the xp gain is definitely nerfed, but still a bit more than you would make in an online session on average.
