Thats what I meant about BF2042 maps working in BF2, because you could have large open sightlines with less threat
miss battlefield games needing a element of skill to do well in.
in modern gunplay, the open spaces nonstop works less cause you can get picked off
even bf4 has pretty raw netcode. its better today because of avg internet speed going up but its still a little wonk

I'd be totally down for a BF2 remake, just with modernized trimmings: weapon customization, unlimited sprint, more areas of cover in many maps, etc.

I would argue BF2 didn't take necessarily more skill it just demanded players be a bit more mindful of how they played. You couldnt hold down the fire button at anything further than like 20m away

gunplay in that game took skill to some extent even the vehicles did hell even the commander did. slowly over time the games just got easier and less off a learning curve needed
vehicle physics in bf2 and bf3 were REALLY nice
Speaking of BF2, flying around with the blackhawks wrecking folks was the OG tactic, they had to nerf that - both in weapon damage and even change it so players IN the blackhawk didn't contribute to cap progress
My issues isn't really the cannon itself, i just feel it shouldn't be used in transport vehicles

It was just a different era - different game. You could demonstrate skill in both types of games, it's just: apples and oranges despite having the same name
If the bullet spread is as bad as people say, it likely took less skill
As a commando type player who actively attacks and steals vehicles there needs to be strong presence

2042 at the moment is k30s or short barrel close combat m5a3s on the ground and battle of the condor/hind sweats above.
i dont expect everyone to be capable or equipped for that but I do it all game long. they're basically paper

Transport vehicles in BF historically could be pretty powerful - IF a whole team or squad contributed and worked together. To an extent, I view that as a good thing. If a transport chopper is doing well because 6 players are working together, that should get rewarded to some extent. Im not saying some small changes wont help, like 50mm splash damage, but one step at a time

The addition of the MAV to the category will reduce Condor instances ever so slightly, because the appeal of not getting pegged by every AA missle and jet will appeal to some
that is 64 people who at any point will just see you and target you
any one of them with the right load out can even kill you if you dont fly carefully
my games now just consist of me and a mate in a jet keeping the transports out the sky and attacking them when they spawn in.

It can do well without 6 players. If you got someone on the cannon and another driving that's enough to get more kills then attack jets

I like flying because of that sometimes. its really fun to live on the razors edge dropping people off and setting up big map movements

No but if you don't have skilled people in the heli that isn't going to last long at all either
A poor Condor pilot will get themselves killed in no time by any number of gadgets or vehicles
but you need a skillful pilot. The Condor/hind has a small firing window below. so you have to outmanouver a deadlier vehicle to get the shot
A good Condor pilot does deserve to have some degree of success, at least until matched by another similarly skilled threat
If you rack up over 20 kills in the BF4 transport chopper.l, then that's an astonishing achievement

good gunner on a 50mm is devastating though. I like to snipe down other transports from above any time I spawn in one
i know a fair few people that do nothing but use the transports all game every game taking everything out no problem

Sometimes I fly upside down for minutes at a time to let my gunner take pot shots at people above us

Im excited to see if the sensitivity settings fix on consoles actually has impact. I do find it hard to aim even in the 50mm on controller sometimes
and to be fair i tend to keep an eye on the scoreboard see if anyone is on a streak to take them out 9/10 its the gunner in the transports

It main purpose should be as a transport. But because of the cannon it gains more kills than most attacked vehicles in the game. That should be an attack vehicle not a transport vehicle.
I understand the reward that there should be for teamwork and it should encourage more teamwork, but just stick to the machine guns then that is a really skillful thing to do to rack up a lot of kills
would be all for it having a 30 maybe for personal defence when low on the ground

I don't disagree that some balance is warranted, but I also think it should stay as Transport and make minor adjustments to the 50mm specifically

how many rounds does the 50mm start with? when fully rearmed
remember you cant balance on the 1% of players. not all pilots are good. some gunners cant even hit the ground
I would like to see them test it out with a weaker cannon but I feel just sticking with the machine guns was perfect.
That BF4 transport chopper was as close as it comes to being transport compared to the ones in 2042

I still play bf4 sometimes. Netcode sux compared to newer games but its still really fun

People really enjoy to call in vehicles on the highest points on breakthrough, then just come put the back raining cannons to wipe out infantry

I'd love to see Tanks maybe have a nice buff to armor. Make the Bolte the "fast and lethal but squishy" armor option, and tanks the "slow and sturdy" armor option
I do believe the Bolte belongs in the armor category, but I worry it might overshadow tanks now
The Bolte is faster, just as strong, a smaller target - a lot of compelling arguments for the Bolte over taking a tank
agreed tanks need more armour due to everyone it feels running AT rockets, sundance AT frags, blots mines, transports 50mm, jets AGM spam, easily tracked, c5 drones, NTW now better against armour. just to name a few
bolte is terrible lol. its great as a utility or defense vehicle but its like made of cotton candy and the gun overheats when you even think about shooting

So I say give the tank more armor. I know folks complain "but I can't take a tank out by myself anymore" but I'd argue that shouldn't be a strong reason - tank should have inherent advantages over infantry, and I don't see a need for infantry to be "obligated" to take on a tank

It blows my mind there are only TWO rocket types in the game so far. This is where I thought specialists could have added variety. Like, make a specific Anti-Tank Specialist with their own unique rocket that made them great vehicle killers

Mackay is "an assault who gets around one way" and Sundance is a "an assault who gets around another way" and Dozier is "an assault who has a shield if you like" they don't truly offer diverse roles

A no brainer add is a vehicle specialist who has a gadget that can repair vehicles in unique ways, and a passive that, while IN a vehicle, resupplies, heals, and repairs friendlies near the vehicle they're in
new spec could repair the vehicle while sat in it. so it constantly heal slowly.

They will add a specialist in the future with instant transmission like in DBZ. You can activate to your perk once every 2 minutes. Just have some C4 ready

surprised Boris is still Russian tbh, i dont mind the idea of the specailists but they should be in classes and have a lot more background with them and story not just art work and a paragraph. the concept art for the game is brilliant just that's all it is concept.

Giving the lack of content and soldiers all the same gives them a longer road map to plan adding new stuff, on top of the road map

But imagine if like, a story beat was there was something that happened on Orbital and then Orbital was completely changed as a result the following season, and they did that with 2-3 maps each season + adding a new one

And they don't have enough time and ideas to plan and design it.
So they say okay let's take a lot of these content ideas away and use that to add to the game over the next 4 to 5 months and in the meantime you can plan on the next 4 to 5months

Yeah I mean these folks have jobs and if their bosses bosses boss at EA says "hey make a hero extraction royale" - you do that cause thats your job. Then someone goes at the 11th hour "you know nvm lets do something else, like a regular BF game" and you go "fuck well we don't have the time to do it right" and the bosses go "well we gotta do it because of stakeholders, etc."
you're gonna do what you can but you know full well it won't be good work and you pray you can make it up later
It's make it break for sure. It was a very poor launch and they've had to spend over half a year fixing the game before they can deliver content to the season pass buyers.

Yeah they could have just copy and pasted their classes formula and created new maps new settings but they wanted to drive a new direction for Battlefield and it's been a big mess.
the fact that that was even present lets me know a large part of this game was just a hard conversion done by people who didnt work on bf5

It's a relatively minor update, but the item of note is BT128 is being removed
I think they've definitely heard the voices of the community and they know they messed up big time. I'm sure they have some kind of database to see how many people actually play 2042 compared to the other games and they really have to make 2042 a similar model to get people on board
I know we'll likely never find out, but I wonder if the ultimate root cause was EA trying to turn monetization and trends into a creative idea, or DICE chasing a trend on their own accord

Time and time again we see that well thought out ideas for FUN games does better than marketing-led ideas
mean V i thought had the perfect model for paying for cosmetics which i would of kept doing long as they were decent and interesting and ww2 fitting.
Fall Guys is a random dumb little game that doesn't chase much (other than Battle Royale sort of) and it becomes quite successful.

I really wonder how great it could have been. Not to say that it's dead I think they've got a chance at season 1 to really revive it, I mean if they didn't try this new experiment with specialists, spend all this time to focus on all these gadgets and they designs, just a simple copy and paste format with your simple classes give both teams different distinctive looks but access to the same class weapons, have more time to focus adding better destruction and map design
We would have already had season 1 by now, I think they would have had more time to get to the 4.0 stage as well without specialists

V in my eyes will always be a underrated gem, great battlefield game just not a good ww2 one. was the last battlefield as we know it potentially
I'm not one to say never, but hot damn would S1 need to pull off a miracle. I will give kudos that DICE did improve the game state, but it seems like a "too little too late"

I think 2042 had a place in the market as a "premium full price MP game" but what we got doesn't even hang with F2P games like Warzone, Apex, Fortnite as far as content stream goes

Oh trust me like I said - I prefer to be optimistic. I love BF as a franchise and have always preferred it. It's been my go-to FPS franchise

I thought content pacing on 3/4 1 and 5 were pretty good tbh
not counting the typical DICEY release that all those games had but it seems like par for the course now
I know steam charts and not everything, but they can give us an understanding of what's popping and what isn't
My evaluation is, if 2042 cannot even sustain a higher play account than Battlefield 1 after season 1, then I think I will have to confirm what I think might happen
3 and 4 felt good. They weren't live service but they dropped full DLCs with decent regularity for the times
i think the only other shooter franchise i ever have looked towards and still do is ARMA been battlefield all the way since 2003-4, played call of duty 2 on the xbox for a bit not played call of duty since ha
3/4/1 had good pacing but that was with premium and dlc. V had horrible content pacing, it was slow in content and alot of the "rewards" were weapon skin parts
4 had so much content it might has well have been live service

movement in V only got better after they fixed the player-terrain issues. the number of times id vault through a window only to bounce off and die is too high

@tepid agate honestly I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Zampella saying "eff it" and totally scratch 2042 outright after S1. Apologize to the fanbase, promise they'll get the next BF right and identify WHAT type of game they want to make and goals for it, and then give folks who bought the Year One pass for 2042 the option to either:
- Get a refund for the year pass
- Choose to not refund and get the next game's year pass + some other BS crap
If they did that, at least I could put BF aside in my mind and go: "ok, done with this for now, we'll see you when you get back"
Yeah I think they were bound to have some hiccups because all the movement mechanics were kind of new, but once they smooth it out they nailed it

It is Battlefield, just not what got most of the playerbase on, the destruction and stuff was introduced around Bad Company and then very much enhanced in BC2/BF3

From patch notes 0.41: "Increased the AC42 distance damage dropoff at higher ranges". Pre 4.1, with the ac42 high power ammo, it takes 6 (75 - 150 m) or 7 shots (>150 m) to kill someone without armor. They already overnerfed the ac42 range, don't understand the further nerf.
It's pretty accurate and has very high rof and it is burst fire.
Good luck using burst fire at a 100 m distance lol
Burst fire is only useful at close range
At mid range single fire mode is far better
And you have to time your shots better at mid range, so you never really use its max fire rate
the entire point of burst fire being created was so that the average soldier could be accurate without interrupting firing
It is and can be the most effective firing mode if you can handle it

My biggest gripe with the game was how extremely oppressive the turrets could be at times. Literally stopping flanks and auto-fortifying objectives. I'm so glad they finally got around to hard-nerfing it.
However I do still believe that they should rework Boris. Why should an engineer specialist go around with a turret that spots people? That's recon shit. Give him an improved repair tool or something.

I've played some Breakthrough games now, and I gotta say... 64p with 128p maps feels so much better. You're able to find people all the time, but you don't have to deal with the meatgrinder clusterfuck that was 128p bt.

people who say this is a good update are full of it. Lost a 128 player breakthrough for 64 players which feels like a downgrade, Rubberbanding is now a thing, guns don't feel any better. Angel and Boris are completely not worth using now. I can't see any positive except moving the MAV to transport.

yeah, armor plates were obviously just a leftover for HZ/BR that was put into AOW for more content. It has no place in a regular mp game mode
I'm glad they got rid of the primary source of armour now they have to go all the way and or just massively change it to be a flak jacket.

I don't know, from my point of view 20 more hp (due to the armor plate) was only 1 more shot, 2 in the worst case (depending on the weapon, attachments and distance)
it's fucking bullshit that I can lose to someone slightly worse than me because they have more health
1 or 2 more shots is an immense change to a game's ttk
1 more shot though is all it takes to win you your gunfight
and it fucks me up because once I'm good enough at a weapon, I know when I dealt enough damage and move on before I get a kill notification
Pair it with the vector or a shotgun and you've won the game.

when had 128 players. there was a higher chance for AA to be used. now that it's 64 everyone run and guns and the transport destroys you.
The only feedback DICE are getting on vehicles is "pls nerf" even though none of them are truly op
