There's some weird hints of realism mixed in with it's rather arcadey shooting and movement. It's an overall strange mix.

The pacing for it (in my experience) was all over the place so I got bored of it rather quickly

Where as with Battlefield, it's easy and quick to get into the chaos.

I don't like the idea that the devs would be immune to a complete thrashing, but to be fair, the gameplay is not terrible. They have met gameplay expectations. There are some rough areas like capturable flag areas not having consistent indications for being capped... The main issue is lack of fore-thought and fore-sight into the matchmaking. Things that can be solved by being able to see player counts, or by regional queue select for joining a server you want to play in or that has more players, and party sizes. Then the even bigger persistent gameplay options resetting and corrupted files, cyberpunk stuff, things that make the game unplayable for people who don't really know how to use a computer. Stuff they should have known would be a problem... not that it matters. Then the content release direction things are heading, like mackay's visor not fitting the art portfolio of the other characters neither does it match the concept. Just design disasters where regulation and oversight is missing the point, it just can't be messed up, and it can't be messed up because people enjoy the battlefield experience more than the call of duty experience and too many ex-call of duty developers worked on 2042. We live in a reality where people are lying to get these nice jobs, but the reality is they can't actually produce work at these nice jobs and it's so bad that there is little incentive to improve and who's actually improving are studios untainted by this absconding work culture despite getting less of a pay off through publishing rights. No one can program that really understands this English, and anyone who learns English jumps right into this toxic mess and makes it hilariously worse. It's pathetic. You're pathetic, you're part of the problem.
