The point you made was made as if it's an irregularity. Which it is not. I purchased the Ultimate edition of the game, have spent 120hrs playing. I do enjoy playing the game, but I didn't have the disadvantage of having the large sum of issues PC players seemed to take the brunt of. I think it is worth the 150$ I spent on the version of the game that I wanted. I am an odd case that actually like the specialist system and think it adds value to the pace of the game albiet needs some serious overhalls such as gadgets being specialist class locked, for example.

The map design should've been better but, imo, was held back by the fact they were designed to also be able to be handled on old-gen consoles. Which I think is why a large majority of aaa games that've released since next gen has come out have been lacking since they're holding back the game design's capabilities for old gen which is something that hasn't happened on the scale it is happening for any other generational upgrade.

I don't think the maps being large contribute to it being as much of a running simulator as people play it off as, if you're playing center points on the map you can quite quickly get to the surrounding points, if you're one of those players that just play the game as a running simulator regardless of map size by only running to and from points instead of picking firefights in surrounding areas during rotations.

And anyone that pre-ordered the game and then complained about it had the free will to wait till the product was released to properly review it and make an educated decision on if it was a product they truly wanted. Which is called being a smart consumer

Tldr; Yes I think the purchase was worth it, and I still have fun jumping into 2042. Specially when me and my room mate play while having some drinks together.

Interesting interpretation on a valid breakdown on my opinion of multiple layers of the game mechanics.

The map design has nothing to do with the old generation for me, the layouts of combat funnelling is bad. Here's what I mean by that.

Hourglass - No cover, really shit breakthrough positions on both 128 & 64. Conquest basically unplayable.

Breakaway - No cover, breakthrough on 64 is good but 128 is absolutely dogshit. Conquest somewhat okay but the amount of vehicles for breakthrough has got to be reduced due to when defending on 128 you end up just being pelted by bolte's on the cliffs whilst defending B.

Orbital - Actually a good map for a breakthrough plenty of cover whilst pushing forward to the first A objective. Good to play on both 64 & 128. Conquest is a bit hit and miss I have good experiences and bad ones but combat tends to just go to the roof top of the big building (I hope you get what I mean)

Manifest - Cranes...

Discarded - Shouldn't have made it through play test.

Renewal - Very good map for breakthrough and conquest. Cannot fault other than the fact that vehicles absolutely dominate on this map if you have the better pilots and tank crews you win the game infantry does not matter here.

Kaleidoscope - the ONLY good game mode for this map is Hazard Zone. I've played this map so many times where you either get hard stomped or you stomp the enemy team. There is no in between.

Enough about maps lets talk about gun play. HAHAHAHA No. This is probably the worst feeling of guns and lets not talk about the lack of guns in this game. Compare this to BF4 or any of the old war games and tell me this is worth more than the ww1/2 games.

Let's talk about the player base of 2042 compared to BF1 / BFV. 2042 in my experience has a lot more campers because the gameplay enables you to do so. This game has catered so hard towards idiots being unable to clear rooms alone and forces you to double check everything. Manifest is the worst map for this because you will see people just sit on cranes and snipe you without any counter play. IF there was a way to counter their noobfest I wouldn't be so irate about it.

Some very good points, and I never said 2042 was better than other battlefields. You asked if I enjoyed the game and if I have, presumably by your own defined definition, enough hours to hold an accurate opinion on the game. If you don't enjoy the game, don't play it. Setting aside the multitude of bugs/performance issues, they took a lot of risks and changes with 2042 that is quite clear the majority of the battlefield community didn't like + don't want out of their purchase.

I think taking the stance of using the word 'realistically', in the way that you did, & stating that anyone that purchases the game must be an idiot. Simply because yourself, and the majority, dislike it is an extremely shallow point of view.

I am an idiot for purchasing it because I read a lot of reviews on it and 95% of them tell you not to buy it. "Waste of time" "Waste of money" etc... However there was 1 review that spiked my interest and it was from some random I can't remember their name and it was something along the lines of, "If this game is the next generation of battlefield with the vast amount of changes this game provides then I am happy with the movement going forward" It peaked my interest because I've played nearly every battlefield claiming they've changed this and changed that. Loaded it up couldn't play for a week until the servers were fixed I literally couldn't connect. 1 Week went by and I finally can play. Got my first game it was on Orbital and had a decent game really enjoyed my FIRST game on it. I'm probably on my 20/30th game on Orbital now and I hate it because it's the only map I still enjoy. Kaleidoscope maybe but Orbital mainly. The few maps I wrote very little about I leave immediately if I see it as they're not worth playing.

If you set aside the bugs and issues with performance yes the standalone game is fine. But you can't set them aside because they heavily impact game performance especially when you shoot a player and the map hasn't fully loaded in and something just pops up in your FOV and they kill YOU...

2042 is exactly the same as bfv. If you choose to run ammo crate you can't use the anti armor rocket. You give up certain gadgets to pick ammo or med crate the same way as you pick a class in the old games.

The thing with specialists is they don’t justify themselves as a change. You’re locked into some predetermined identity that’s inferior in every way to BFV’s system of customizable soldiers, they don’t solve any of problems the class system had, and gadget-wise there’s actually less freedom now. The only upside is (arguably) universal weapons I guess, but you didn’t need to introduce specialists to make that change

Specialist shouldve been a rework and extension of Vs combat roles. An assault could be an anti-infantry specialist with no AT or an anti armor specialist with carbines and no grenade launchers for example
Recon could be snipers at range or scouts on the frontlines with appropriate gadgets for each role, etc

There was a whole year between the 2nd TTK and the end of support. The difference is, BFV was completely turned around between launch and the end of content/release of 2042. DICE has just gotten started here, at more or less the same pace as most other recent titles in the franchise.

Either way though, launch BFV and summer update BFV are almost two entirely different games.

BFV was by no means a perfect game, but given where it started, its incredible.
