What it tells me is that the actual staff still working on 2042 are a very small group in DICE and the rest of the teams have moved on to the next thing.
This update is a giant red flag for me that support for the game has already been pared down to the bare minimum and i'm scaling back my expectations for fixes and season 1 content.

Yes, I prefer the 'free weapons and maps' approach to the previous premium approach. I think it's beneficial to all players. But they need to release the game in a good state for this approach to work.
