Honestly, my two biggest complaints for 2042 on XB1 are that about 70% of the time that I engage in combat (especially up close), my game locks up. No idea why, but it’ll start repeatedly freezing for three to five seconds at a time, or the frame rate will drop to about one frame per second... That’s my biggest issue.

Second is the input lag. It’s manageable for the most part (albeit largely by switching automatic weapons to semiauto outside of 20 meters and hoping I remember to switch it back to auto), but it makes controlling automatic weapons and firing single shots without switching fire modes nearly impossible. I just thought it was due to high ROF weapons and my slow fingers (even though I could tap-fire in every other BF game), until my friends on Series X told me that they consider the Xbox One version unplayable for that exact reason, and that they can easily tap-fire and control automatic weapons on the Series X version. To me, it’s plenty playable, but...very painful.

I’m really quite curious if others have encountered those issues. The freezing/framerate drop, in particular, seems to be a rarity among other players.

I think BF2042 simply innovated too much. From a design perspective, I love it. I can see it being my favorite and the most fun after the first year. I love the maps and specialists.

Nonetheless, from a business standpoint, I think the game is stupid. They had to know getting rid of classes for specialists, whether objectively good or not, was gonna be polarizing as hell.

Also the maps and player counts. Dice probably thought that, since BF is renown for being bigger, that making it EVEN BIGGER was a logical choice. It wasn't. They forget that BF and COD fanbase has some overlap, and at the end of the day the vast majority of people like infantry focus. That's why Shanghai, locker, and metro were so popular. That's why BC2 is so popular. They made huge maps with higher proportion of vehicles, but don't realize BF fanbase is not war thunder fanbase. Portal can fix this, it just needs revamped progression (not hard) and more content. Regular like conquest 128 is too unfamiliar and a big shift from what we were used to for 4 previous games.

Well Planetside also works I think because anyone can spawn a vehicle if they have the currency for it, so you don’t spend tons of time running around, and once you actually get to locations there’s usually enough people in these small enough spaces to have proper team-oriented fights on ground, but still open space around it for the vehicles. 2042 feels like vehicle heaven with the open maps but we don’t get enough vehicles at a time for these maps to be vehicle based
