I can't speak for the fanbase..... I don't personally like em over classes, but you will admit that the combinations you can make with a specialist, ie their weapon, gadget, attachments, ammo, 2nd gadget is far more than what you could do with a class ..... But the class system worked cuz it was simple, dumb, not to mention a valuable balancing tool, it gave you just enough choices while keeping certain boundaries to not overwhelm you... idk man.... I still think class based gadget locked soldiers with free weapon selection is the way to go... That's probably the evolution that would've worked
