Like outside core elements where it is very subjective it seems, I have a list of small things I think 2042 does nicely:

1. Plus system
2. Ziplines (amazing additions, very slept on)
3. Sandstorm on Hourglass
4. Tornadoes even if gimmicky are interesting especially when it hits an objective contested on Breakthrough

Guys, LVLcap here with a weekend tip: Weapons only have limited ammo so it's best to fire in a small burst of 3-4 rounds and then pound on that reload button so you never get caught without rounds in the chamber. A little known fact is that if you if you tap the reload button in the cadence of the battlefield theme your reloads will be 25% faster. Dun Dun Dun, Dun dun, dun.

There is a big difference in not liking any old game and not liking a game from a franchise you have played for a long time.

Here are some examples and differences.

I played Vampyr and Greedfall. About a few hours into them I decided it wasn't for me and I stopped playing them. Maybe they were flawed but those games as far as I know aren't part of a franchise like battlefield is. I just stopped playing them because they weren't my taste.

2042 though is different in that most people who play that game are fans of the franchise. So when they don't like a new entry, it's a big deal. That differs though from a game like BF1. There were people who didn't like BF1 but for the most part it was not liked by them because the theme or the gunplay just wasn't for them.

2042 differs because it is not appealing to a MUCH larger chunk of the fanbase and a big reason is that it threaten what they feel are core design philosophies of the battlefield franchise. BF1 didnt do that. So they'll fight to save those core design philosophies rather than just wait for the next game because if they don't fight, the next game will countinue with those flawed design philosophies.

I recently watched that youtube documentary on the Battlefield series and it brought back so much nostalgia and joy from so many years of battlefield. Memories of friends and epic games and yes the raging at times. But when I look at 2042, I see a future where battlefield games no longer look or feel like battlefield games to me. I see a possible end to me involvement with the franchise. That's is not what I want yet some people believe it'd be better if I walk away if I don't like it. No sir, battlefield has been apart if my gaming life for a long time and there no way I let it go that easy. So yes, I don't like 2042. But I do want to fix it so I don't have to leave a franchise that I love. Hopefully that makes sense. 🙂

I see. That is an understandable step back and I could imagine the frustration. I think why I feel this time is different, is because of the reasoning behind the changes. 2042 made core design changes it seems like because they want to follow gaming trends. BF2, I don't know, could have been the technical limitations or they wanted to focus on less things but make them quality. but I can almost guarantee that they weren't letting gaming trends decide whether to remove certain vehicles.

It's the idea that they didn't let franchise itself and the logical evolution of the games design philosophy inspire change and instead just followed trends and allowed hero shooters to inspire them. that's what bothers me so much about the design making
