I think the biggest thing holding back Hazard Zone's popularity right now is that there's a MASSIVE insurmountable learning curve. Most people who play it hit it pretty early on, get destroyed less than 30 seconds out of spawn, and then quit. Some people win a few, but can't replicate it consistently, and they think it's a random game mode. To get to a point where you can consistently win and rack up 15-20 win streaks, you need to have learned A TON of nuance in the game mode that's not documented anywhere, and you need to have a good squad.

The problem here isn't really just the learning curve. Games like EFT have a huge learning curve, but most of them have decent content creators that guide people through it. There's people that teach other people the baseline for how to not suck at the game. And then I play Hazard Zone and there's a rando guy on my squad who's level S020 and scanning shit in his data drive scanner and all I can do is shake my head and hope that he reads chat as I tell him to cut it out. Unfortunately content creators aren't playing HZ because there's fewer "Battlefield Moments" and they aren't being paid to play HZ, so it's kind of stuck in a state where most players of the mode are either REALLY sweaty or REALLY new.
