Battlefield is an old franchise with 11+ AAA games - the diverse games and its sandbox nature means that the franchise has a bunch of sub-groups that all have different ideas of what "Battlefield" should be. At this point I don't think they can release a game and not have half the community complain while the rest just plays.

I've been having a lot of fun playing a whole lot of 2042 with my old BF buddies despite all the bugs and balancing that still need to be done. I've been through enough buggy BF launches that I guess it doesn't phase me that much anymore.

The sliding mechanic is far from sweaty movement. It doesn't impact gameplay like it does in games like Apex where you can incorporate it into things like wall jumping etc

I feel like the limit to what gamers want in fps games specifically have been very well defined. Sliding; most fan bases don't mind too much. Stuff like Infinite warfare and Advanced warfare with the jetpack bs is over what people like and consider additional to gameplay imo

Game does still feel like bf to me. There's a difference in how, even the same mechanics, feel when put together as a whole. Sliding does next to nothing as far as being able to avoid people in bf as the maps are designed for battlefields game style.

Things like apex the Sliding is extremily fast, there's significantly tighter corners and buildings (Same with warzone, lease the old map).

Just because the same type of mechanic is implemented into several games doesn't equate to that mechanic having the same feel.

If 2042 was like the first BF game I wouldn’t have half the problems with it that I do, but with all the trend-chasing that it does and all the odd design decisions that are a first for the franchise, it just doesn’t feel as good as any BF I’ve previously played with the exception of Hardline, the reason why differs based on the entry I’m comparing it too.

Classes promoted the rock, paper, scissors type gameplay which is still there - they have been messing with the classes since after 1942, they just finally took the final step of trying something else, for good or for worse. The map complaint I don't see as valid, the maps have plenty of cover and you can order a jeep to fall on your feet so the large open spaces between are not really an issue. Have there been changes to the formula? Sure. Had they not done that people would have complained that the Battlefield formular was getting stale and DICE was too afraid to make changes. No-win scenario.

Main argument for classes is to be teamwork centric. Which is something that is still there you just have a choice on who wants to do what.

You can still have people play the roels of all the classes. This idea that classes forced randoms to work together to me is bizarre. And if you're with premades everyone can setup their loadouts to accomplish the exact same thing as you could with classes. You just get more freedom in weapon loadouts.

You can't run around with mines, a rocket launcher and an AA at the same time. You can't have both a shotgun and a sniper. That is pretty much rock, paper, scissor gameplay preserved.

To me, Battlefield’s identity is combined arms combat, class-based systems for balance and teamplay, and destruction. 2042 has got combined arms combat, and some (but very limited outside of certain sections on certain maps) destruction

Oh I miss features too. Especially Battlelog, the ability to host your own community server etc. etc.
I am however also aware of the exponentially rising difficulty + sources of bugs, programmatically speaking, getting systems to work together as you add more, especially in sandbox games.
