In the 128 player modes, yeah it can happen quite a bit. More people = more people looking at objective points and their various spawns. That said, odds are always increased when spawning into a point actively being contested.

Usually when I pick a "safe spawn" though, I'm usually fine

Ah well, yeah squad spawns are always a risk - even if not in combat. For all you know someone could be lining up a shot against your buddy but no shots were fired yet, which I'd assume wouldn't be "In combat" yet if the enemy is far enough away

I would say order of safety is HQ > Uncontested Point > Contested Point > Squad Spawn

Typically, the closer spawns are to the action, the higher the risk of getting into what I like to call a "hot spawn"

Then again, it's not really realistic to always spawn at HQ either, cause that just winds up being too slow, so you gotta strike a balance usually and time when you're going where

Yeah that is the common complaint. I'm a bit biased, since I started playing BF with BF2 and many of the BF2 maps were similar. That said, even BF2 had some more tighter maps, as well as typically a few vehicles at each base for transport. So those are some things I think 2042 needs

Discarded is fun too, and to me actualy reminds me the most of a good BF2 map. There is space between, but the sectors themselves have good back and forth.

Crazy thing is, you can spend a whole match at one sector, two tops, and still be valuable. I think compared to other BF games, having a good base defense is just as valuable. Older BF games it was all about going out and ghost capping the fringe bases, not so much with 128 players now - it's worth having folks defend most bases

It's a good map! BF has had a history of good urban maps, and I think that's what 2042 is missing. It's missing the "Karkand" of BF2, or the "Metro" of BF3.

The best advice I can give is try to have a traversal strategy at all times. See if a call in is available, see if a friendly vehicle is around that you can hop in, etc.

This way, AoW gains both a permanent 64p. mode AND the Portal maps

G57 can be pretty sweet in burst fire mode. That said, the MP28 (I think thats what it is) is a bit more of a traditional semi-auto which works well, and the M44 is a revolver. Not much else to say since I suck at using revolvers

SVK is a nice hybrid between a DMR and a sniper. It has a higher damage per shot, but is a bit slower than the DM7. I view it as a semi-auto sniper option

Hell, to my surprised I've slapped the MP9 into semi auto a few times and have managed to harass enemies at range with it too. Like between the 2 F points on the buildings on Kaleidoscope.

It might have taken 9 shots to kill or whatever, but it was easy to control and precise enough
