I think a major issue that's causing a drop in players is the match making, lack of server browser and no persistent servers. If there aren't enough active players in your reigon, it just drops you into an empty server and gives the "Waiting for players to join" message. It's really annoying to wait for so long only to not be able to play, and having to go back to the menu everytime a round ends

MordorHQ is shut down so most of it is lost to history. Console players were fine with bf3 but the pc crowd was fucking furious.
No mod support or theater mode killed massive, thriving parts of the community. The removal of a lot of teamplay or depth adding features killed comp. And the game focused more on small maps and a linear campaign.

bf1 was loved, there were two main reasons why the OG's hated it 1. the shift from modern into the world war setting 2. the way that some systems were causal-ified from bf3 and bf4...and even some of those guys came around in the end, and yes, in some ways, it was a downgrade from 3 and 4, but it was leagues better than V and 2042, thats the issue, bf1 in comparison to 3 and 4 can be seen as a downgrade, but 2042 is absolutely a downgrade in almost all aspects to 3,4 and 1 except the 128 players

Speaking of specialists, I truly do believe what I said prior to launch holds up. That this game wasn't going to fail or succeed on specialists alone. I think in the end, the specialists work. It's different sure, but the build flexibility is great.

At the end of the day, the other issues the game has had have been more meaningful in shaping the state of the game.

The best thing I can say is: play, and have fun! You'll get better over time. I remember back when I played my first BF game. I was trash at first, but over time you get better.

Also, depending on what mode you're playing, make sure you're in a position to play the objective or otherwise contribute to some sort of specific play your team will benefit from. Maybe you're healing others, maybe you're setting up defensive positions to defend a flag, maybe you're running AA or in a jet and taking out enemy air.

I'm fine with planes not being infantry killers. I believe every vehicle type should have a role, and I get the frustration of jets picking off infantry (hell, I WAS one of those jet pilots in BF3).

That said, I feel like they still aren't very great against some air types. Like the 25mm cannons are so ineffective against Nightbirds, due to their spread and relatively low damage and bullet speed

Even when fighting attack helis, the spread on the cannons is so aggressive and the projectile speed is so slow, compared to previous BF games

To each their own. I've been playing most BF games since BF2, and I feel differently. I can still see the Battlefield DNA. The maps, the vehicles, the modes, the teamplay (which does still exist if you're fortunate enough to play with well-minded individuals). Still feels like Battlefield to me

Now obviously there are betas too, but demos you could continue to play post launch. This is what the F2P weekends are in the modern gaming industry

Honestly 2042's servers at launch were pretty good compared to other titles. Hitreg issues aside. At least they launched matches and stayed up for the match, unlike BF4
