Yeah. I think the issue is they really need to make a robust logic system to make it work. I agree, farming scenarios are bad and 1HP bots shouldnt level up progression, but plenty of modes should do so. Heck, even asymmetrical modes should, just consider the settings and spit out a rate adjustment.

So if like 1 team is mowing down 10HP human fodder, each kill is worth 1/10th the progression or whatever. and if it's a stock-like experience, well damn, it should be full progression!

I feel its always best to make an opinion for yourself. A lot of online opinions are partially based on what gets more clicks (for example, AJS's review). The game has issues, but DICE does seem to be putting solid work into slowly improving the state of the game, and overall the game is VERY fun IMO most of the time.

There is a MASSIVE difference in launch problems and the huge divergence from the Battlefield franchise that is 2042.

It's a mashed together mish-mash where game direction decisions were based off what was popular at the moment and so we ended up with the nightmare haphazardly stitched together monster that is the current iteration.

The people making the decisions only had their eyes on money and jumping on the latest bandwagon instead of the good of the franchise and then shitcanned the people that had built up Battlefield into the success that it was left out of disgust.

They’re pretty expensive those times too, it felt “cheap” to make but people needed manpower because technology were still in its infancy stage. Creating Mario 64 were a nightmare to make that time

They also went from the old engine to the new Frostbite engine which NO ONE was experienced with. Then they had to work from home, meaning coders were downloading new builds of the game EVERY DAY, leaving how much time to work on things. All the Battlefield veterans and experienced people left over "creative differences" (EA being control freaks and dictating what the game was going to be and announcing unrealistic things.

128 players has always been tested since Battlefield 3 and the results are always the same. It's not a good format, and 32/64 players is the sweet spot. They knew it and intentionally put in 128 as a gimmick.

My favorite map in BF2042 is Breakaway. It's so open and expansive

Eh, that one hasn't been my favorite so far, but I don't hate it - to be fair, I don't HATE any of the 2042 maps.

I find Discarded reminds me the most of OG Battlefield maps, and Renewal might be my favorite from a conceptual perspective.

It is the graphics, unfortunately.. thats what's extremely costly and time consuming.. you can always hire someone to code, and if it's done correctly.. it works.. but look how these people reacted to that cyberpunk game because when you shoot the water it didn't splash... so the whole fucking game was garbage lol

Renewal is really good too. Discarded is actually one of my least favorite in BF2042. Still better than any other map they've made in a decade, don't get me wrong, but I just don't like how the map is fishbowled so infantry on the ships can dominate.
Infantry should be cannon fodder.

Yeah pretty much. EA took a gamble and assumed that getting to market before holiday shopping would be more worthwhile than the potential risk of people getting upset at the game's launch and never coming back. Of course, this is now contingent on DICE doing the work to TRY to get people back

While personally I like the more OG approach to the maps from a nostalgic perspective, it's not like DICE doesn't have precedent to do this. As the story unfolds they could say that NoPats are establishing base of operations, etc. and add structures onto the map.

You do need to keep some spots of empty area though, to let bad traversal strategies go punished, and allow for longer range engagements

part of the problem is players clump 128 always leads to a density where cover isn't enough

I wish there were more small buildings so you can take cover from the hellfire of the heli's cause atm it feels that I am just doomed as soon as a heli starts shooting at me

I think a part of that to I found is, sometimes certain points of interest just aren't compelling enough. People will often take the most direct route, and that's evident for maps like Renewal where everyone will dump into C but nobody will go over to B. So you have massive clusters at C and 2 v 3s at B
