Setting most of the first paragraph aside, as all of that can be fixed without changing core mechanics and simply balancing them to flow better. I've already stated my opinion on maps potentially seeing decent changes due to seasonal differences much like Apex & Fortnite with dice's vocalized emphasis on maps & specialists being the leading format to tell the story as there's no campaign.

Stating you can't find use for guns is imo just not true, it requires actually thinking about your positioning and potentially back tracking a bit to go around natural breaks in the maps. The concept that no other battlefield had maps with large breaks or open areas just isn't true; Al marj in battlefield 1, Arras in bfv. Both of which required you to use sparse cover in large sections of the map (not all of it, but neither do 2042 maps) or natural cover such as small hills/breaks in fields to safely move from point to point. The points in 2042 are structed to promote smaller scale battles separate from other points on the map for the sole purpose of introducing cqc situations.

And I fail to see how more options for movement (sliding for everyone or grapple/wingsuit for specialists) impact the flow enough that people can say it completely breaks the formula of battlefield games. Of which primarily consists of larger lobbies & maps than its competition in similar arcade style fps games. And an emphasis on vehicles having an influential part through the course of a game.

All of those maps had natural ways to move around even on foot to gap close and find ways to be useful with whatever weapon without always being spotted instantly, especially since those maps didn't have 3D spotting so there was no drones revealing people on any open part of the map immediately. Making guns relevant in only a few select locations is not smart and intuitive, its restricting and promoting people who want to maintain a certain game type as just camping point by point and waiting.

The comparison is non existent because previous BF games had 64 player lobbies in total and the maps reflected that size. 128 player maps were expanded wayyy to large and its showing how bad of an idea it was based on the flow of the game. For vehicle mains its a field day with all the farming they get to do. Movement ultimately impact the game in various ways from just directional leaping, sliding being not really consistent at the same level. The influence of vehicles in every BF game, but not in every map and mode in previous BF games: however this is not the case in 2042 where the influence of vehicles is forced into every single map so far, so even if you wanted little to no vehicles the game would never compliment that with the map design: hence why this is the most forced BF game to date. It basically forces you to swallow things that BF games previously did not. There was vehicle oriented maps, mixed oriented maps and infantry focused maps. Throughout the series. 2042 is just vehicle influences maps with small sections for infantry being encouraged to camp if they want to make anything other than DMRs and Snipers useful when trading, since the damage drop off on most ARs starts at 10 meters, and most engagements are at like 100+ something meters, its ridiculous

While I think vehicle # limit should be reworked as well as the frequency I disagree that vehicles just farm people. If players actually paid attention to the map before they spawn in it is not hard to destroy vehicles. Not sure what the nerfed NTW hp rounds do as I have been at work since patch but I could single handedly hold points against bolte's, helicopters & tanks by having AA missiles and the NTW (Which was previously 4 hp shots to destroy tanks I do believe). I think making the maps smaller would've made the clusterfucks that can sometimes happen with 20 enemies rushing at the same time in certain subsections of the map that are not very large (Such as the underground passageway between B & D on orbital) happen even more frequently which is a worse flow.. As for the damage dropoff range I'm unsure what previous battlefields were so I can't really talk on the subject at all.

I also disagree with the premise that 2042 maps don't have enough natural breaks to find a way to rotate in most instances. And there is also the call-in feature to try and mitigate places where it is harder to do so or the rotate would result in a couple minutes of running.
