This is a very interesting topic of discussion. The overall ambient design of the game feels a lot more shallow compared to prior games. I can respect a lot of the aesthetic in map design, even if I don't like the implementation of it. But the game feels like we're in Pyro tf2 goggles, where we are running around with flowers more-so than a wargame. And no I don't think they should try to be realistic, lets be honest not much about this game is realistic. They should however focus on the small details that help build immersion.

Part of me believes that is evidence of the chat thing not being tied to "Toxicity". They didn't have chat in the beta most likely because they didn't have crossplay fully working. They added crossplay very late into development according to reports. While we might think these are easy to just implement, there can be a lot of technical hold ups. And thus resulting in us not having voice chat.

I think all chat was more of a toxicity thing than voice chat tbh. I think voice chat might be related to the issues of crossplay.

This is speculation though.

The damage for the most part is done. A lot of players feel burned and don't wanna trust the franchise.

Launch was never going to be good because Battlefield launches are never good.

The main problem is not all the crap we know they will fix like map and player geometry errors, latency, server stuff etc. That's just stuff that can't really be figured out till there's people stressing the servers. It's all the unconscionable design decisions in removing classes, giving everyone every gadget, removing persistent servers that built communities and rivalries, no in-game voip in a cooperative objective focused team based shooter and loads more.

Majority of game launch will usually have issue with server latency, geometry stuff like you mentioned but the feature we are missing atm and the lack of weapons, gamemode etc... compared to the previous game is a pure joke that many see Battlefield 2042 a huge downgrade compared the previous title.

I can definitely respect them saying building a game from home is hard. I experience this with my development partners. Timezones and communication even with zoom and other things makes things far more difficult. I didn't really buy the whole "Covid impact" until I met up with my partners in person and the amount of work we got done was night and day, as well as we all got on the same page. In person engagement definitely has an impact.

But the issue to me is that there wasn't a substantial delay and statements like "We are ahead of schedule" were made.

I've noticed this outside of Battlefield. Moving things onto my other monitor and going fullscreen sometimes causes my monitor to black out for a second. Starting a shadowplay recording has done it too.

I think there also might be some windows issues. Steam for example has had some black GUIs recently. Unreal engine has had issues with window stacking and then not being able to context menus. Some weird stuff.

And I'm not the only one, I reported it and others are having these issues too.

Depends on who you ask. BF4 had some egregious bugs. Lancing dam going silent for all players because of a silenced sniper rifle. Dawn Breaker crashing. Siege tower collapse causing crash. And par for the course rubber banding.

But in its own way BF2042 has launch issues. The live service creating a persistence error. The DirectX crashing. Lots of balance bugs.

For what its worth, I was going to look at the settings to find something for a friend and I noticed they re-added minimap sizing options. I didn't see it in patch notes, but I might've just read through em too fast.

But the option to change minimap size is back in some capacity. Baby steps, but still a nice thing

I actually enjoy a lot of the visual aesthetic. Like there are some neat features in the maps. I feel like the ambience is lacking a lot and these neat features in maps don't feel connected well. The maps suffer from it a lot for infantry.

They don't feel nearly as fun to play as prior battlefield maps. They lack a lot of depth in my opinion. For example there are a lot of large grass fields/open areas with no cover/protection. In BFV at least we could go prone is dense grass.
