Console still has party chat as a function of the consoles themselves, which is one of the major reasons nobody uses voice chat anymore. Not to mention that most people have phones so mobile Discord, while kinda shitty, still works for crossplay.

I can type pretty quickly with controller but it's a case of ymmv. It helps that, at least on Playstation, words you enter frequently get saved (like auto-type/correct) and you can just enter in words that have been saved before.
