It's been asked and they haven't denied it, so that gives me hope they're keeping the door open for it. 2142 was really interesting in terms of lore, would be cool to see them add more to it. They'd need to retcon a lot of stuff, the timespan of things specifically, but I could see them doing it.

Older games had markers or red/blue name text over them as well. However, previous games also had faction based skins.

I think 2042 just needs to do a few tweaks to the 3D UI, and perhaps add some detail on uniforms to help identify factions

I rely on uniforms way more than I do a red or blue dot. The artists specifically designed the silhouettes in previous games to be distinct and recognizable, because it was important.

Having people adjust by changing color blind settings isn't really an excuse to not improve UI. I think DICE just needs to change the UI behavior with friendlies who are close, and add some model details to uniforms for team vs enemy

for example, blur or red bands, or flag patches
