I just can't understand how they ever thought specialist would ever be a good idea. At least how they work mechanically. The actual cosmetic aspect of it doesn't bother me.
Why didn't they just have regular classes, and essentially use the "Elite" system from BFV? Those were prototype specialists essentially. That makes so much more sense and keeps the class system intact.

A developer wants to build on what works with just enough innovation to keep it fresh. Introducing specialists was also kind of a swing in a different direction. Some consider that alone as being a jump in a way that is not very much like the previous design. The skins in BFV alone were also seen as jumping into a separate direction than the others. I think when it comes down to it, there can be a lot of changes done to a game. Customization can ultimately be innovated too and changed, if theyre willing to change the "feel" in the gameplay, customization shouldn't be any different in the category as seeing a change.

Well it definitely changes the dynamic though with the ability to also have every character equip a medpack and a ammo pack for the rest of the team. It still creates a dynamic change where a "role" per say is no longer required for specific things, when other classes can fill the shoes of some of the same classes. Engineer is no longer the only one with a rocket launcher, Recon is no longer the only one with a sniper rifle, Medic and support are no longer the only utility controllers of the game etc. Medics also dont revive faster than squad revives, which also is kind of a different dynamic
