Its hard to explain but when you are in an intense situation, you are too focused on staying alive and not hearing what is happening around you. However I tend to find myself playing better when I am relaxed, you tend to flow better and stuff and not worry about dying. As annoying as it is, it creates competition within the community and subconsioanly you want to keep playing to unlock everything in the game. At least for a fair few. Some simply do not care however, unlocking things and getting rewards for playing makes people want to play more. And looking cool / having unique items makes people want to spend more as well 😉
