You just need to remember that you have that mission remaining, and when you can otherwise take someone out with melee from behind, just swap to your torch, and start it up. It does take a couple of seconds to take down an enemy. Or run aimlessly into the blinding smoke hoping there's someone to run into your torch (keep it burning, obviously).

Just start a portal server and do your missions against bots if you have trouble in actual multiplayer

Hello everyone, i as you have encountered this problem, i found a solution, it is very dumb as it is fitting because EA are also dumb.

I found only one working solution, this requires your PC to be wifi enabled.

just run around and find that half health enemy that the repair tool can kill before they kill you, its a grind but if you play conquest 128 person and stick to the mission you will find that person looking the other way and get the mission done. flank dont go head on, look for snipers focused downrange and unaware. alternately breakthrough and just run around in the smoke with repair tool out clicking on anyone that appears. first kill I got was random injured enemy, second I caught a noob that couldn't aim well and danced around burning them with repair tool, took a few seconds I was lucky they didnt kill me first. Felt bad they were engineer to probably trying to get the same mission done.

I even let a rando engineer running around with repair tool out kill me once, didnt even shoot back, I felt their grind and gave them a gift kill

to me its so annoying that BF2042 is a good game in many ways, but has the typical bugs and gameplay issues that good developers easily fix in a year after release, and EA did NOTHING and refuses to acknowledge and fix huge issues. The more and more I play this game, the more and more I'm positive that 90% of the 2042 dev team weren't even qualified to be working in the field. It doesn't even feel like an indie game. It feels like a bunch of highschool dropouts were throw together in a group, given the previous work, and said "make something with it" and all they did was hackly implement stuff and remove other stuff and play it off as a "feature" while they try to figure out what the hell they're even doing. Then the patches/updates are them slowly learning how to actually do things.
