There should be awareness made about these HIDs — which, if you didn’t know, were the reason back then you started noticing your inputs weren’t being recognized or ignored. It wasn’t you. It wasn’t lag. It wasn't even your controller, keyboard or mouse. It was developers attempting to push back against them until too many people were complaining about it.

I’ve been playing this game pretty much exclusively for the last 2-3 months and have yet to run into anybody I think is hacking.

As a cherry on top, this isn’t a competitive game with a lot of attention, so the odds of someone cheating on it compared to games like Apex or Warzone is tiny.

every single new driver update the stupid ass game deletes ios entire shader cache(assumption) making the PC rhave to re render/compile everything

What it does is have a custom shader cache in one or two AppData/Local folder locations, that are not D3DSCache.

It will update and redo JIT compiling of those shaders on a per-session basis, or as needed. This is meant to be quick, but newer AMD driver versions are now incompatible with how BF2042's shader pipeline is handled at this time. Presumed to be an AMD issue.

Also, DirectX12 games will always JIT compile shaders. Whether set to do it up-front, or actively doing it as an asset is streamed in. That is part of the selling point of the API version. However, it also invites things like developers managing to write the pipeline manually and in a bad way more than DirectX 11.

Hello. Secure Boot is a Windows/motherboard firmware feature intended to lock the bootloader down a little. Make it harder to penetrate things in the kernel, e.g. EA Anticheat, or generally.

EA presumed most users would have it enabled already. However, custom builds and older prebuilds had it turned off as a convenience.

EA also did not give any guidance on what things the mandate specifically assumed to be true in an end user's system for it to throw the exception. This led to users trying any tutorial on the subject in the hopes it would make the problem go away. Even ones with steps that were unnecessary, and could induce severe problems if tried.

Unfortunately, EA has still justified it under the guise of combating cheating, in spite of it being a significant compatibility break as well.

It is not likely to budge on this unless either its favorite prior influencers start turning on it, or unless BF6/BFLabs's final product is also negatively affected. 2042 simply exists as the newest Gold Release product, and therefore, as a convenient test bench for this.

The only thing one can do is at least make one's own PC able to operate within the new mandate, and also reserve the hatred towards it to be in the name of those who were unable to restore game compatibility, should you manage to resolve it for yourself.

Some effort has been made to compile community information on it into a guide format, at least.

As it you are supposed to do following their steps. Go to boot menu in BIOS > Secure Boot - Enable etc. And I'm lucky I've a CPU with iGPU else you're simply screwed. But at their forum there are a lot of people with the same issue and EA doesn't give a f. Looking further back you find the same threads when they did the same with Valorant. Their simple step-by-step simply doesn't work with every configuration and telling people 'changing things in the BIOS is at your own risk' is a pretty simplistic way to avoid any responsibility. If they care they could at least mention you could render your PC useless by simply enabling secure boot for a bloody game. Makes no sense whatsoever. And it's not that I don't know anything about PCs, building my own for 35 years.

I've a Gigabyte Designare mb and it said I had to enable PK key before being able to enable secure boot.

So I did and didn't think much of it. It said it had 0 keys stored and just enabled that PK key.

And this step might be why it's not working. I can try again once when I've the energy but since there were no stores keys I don't expect issues enabling that PK key and afterwards secure boot.

On the BF forum someone said I also might have to do with the GPUs since I've two. Don't really feel like trying again since I'm already happy the two GPUs fit in the case and removing them is annoying.

Appreciate your thinking along, it's odd but as said, there are really a lot of people who have black screen issues. And that's a bit much trouble imo for EAs way to do something about cheaters.

While I enjoy a game now and then my PC is mainly used for work stuff and I think EA should make it more clear how and what you can do if your screen goes black and you can't get into BIOS anymore. Well, you will be in BIOS you just don't see it.

It's also not that secure boot is kind of default since it doesn't add much for a normal desktop. While TMP2.0 is a thing needed for Win11 secure boot is needed because EA thinks so. And to just introduce it with a patch and render the game unusable for some and pc's as well I see as a bad decision. Especially as they don't take responsibility.

It's like Nvidia blaming users their connector goes up in flames while it's just bad engineering.

I might try to get it to work again as I now know how I got my screen back but for now RoadCraft is more relaxing 😁

Only then is one able to attempt to set up Secure Boot and Pure UEFI Mode, as well as other typical UEFI parameters.

Well a 3090 and the 4090 are not really antique I would say but someone in the BF forum mentioned it as well. It's not a weird SLI config, just two dedicated GPU's in one PC. I render a lot and the 3090 provides me an extra 10k CUDA cores. To render with both you don't need SLI, all GPU render plugins just recognize the cards and you select the ones you want to work hard.

BF2042 also doesn't want to start if my 3090 is enabled in the device manager but that's also a typical BF2042 problem. Well it starts but it refuse to go full screen. All other software and games don't care about the two GPUs. They just pick the GPU where my monitors are connected to. I don't really care I need to disable the 3090 since it's often disabled anyway since I don't render all the time.

I'm not sure how much it means but if I look at GPU-Z both cards have UEFI checked and the tooltip says it should to allow fast boot and secure boot. I don't really feel like flashing the VBIOS just to play a game so will try later without. I can't really imagine it's the cards preventing the boot but I suspect more that it doesn't get pass BIOS and hangs in BIOS with an error. Just without outputting any video signal at all. And while that would make sense since I normally have the iGPU disabled it's still odd since I just reset the BIOS shorting the pins. I would say that normally would be enough to just get the default settings with iGPU enabled. Although I can imagine it would put the output to dedicated GPUs anyway if it sees them.

When I removed my GPUs the messsage I got was just 'BIOS has been reset to defaulr values' which is normal, just having no video output ain't. I think the secure boot options are just not simply reversed back to default with a BIOS reset since I had to reverse them back manually.

the typical behavior is a blackscreen untill windows loads the gpu driver how ever I have no idea what would happen in a dual gpu setup

with csm on the displayID support isn't a issue

VRAM wise it doesn't make a different, you just have 24GB since there is no NVLink anymore. With 2x3090 you would still do it and V-Ray is actually trying to make it work again on the 50xx since it has some shared memory feature outside NVLink.

Nvidia was smart to kill NVLink since current game cards are much more interesting to use than their pro-series of cards looking at money/speed ratio.

I'm always surprised about the power usage, it's not by far the max TDP while it does run 100%. BF2042 uses more looking at the single 4090. I think that's actually because it uses all CUDA cores and some RT-cores I guess but other than that it's not busy with any VRAM related things since your entire scene needs to fit in VRAM.

And I don't render the entire day, GPU renders are incredibly fast compared to CPU renders. For that matter I think rendering over CPU is far more expensive.

Nvidia have made the driver toggle explicitly for a single GPU only unless the game has explicit SLI support due to incompatibility issues (and since they stopped supporting it in the driver), you can override it in the driver but 95% of games will present a form of instability

GPU renders don't need SLI. The render plug loads the scene into the VRAM of both cards (so the entire scene resides in both cards) and it gets rendered.

I'm not talking about real time renderers like Unreal which won't support multiple GPU's anyway.

So it has nothing to do with SLI. There's no physical link between the cards. And yes, GPU rendering needs less power than running BF2042. Won't be fair to actually look at both cards since BF2024 won't even run full screen if I've both enabled.

Nope, that's the good thing. It makes less sense to do if you've a 2080 + 4090 for example since you will only be able to use 11GB of VRAM. But since the VRAM on both my cards is 24GB you have 10.xxx CUDA cores extra for the 16xxx of the 4090 so it does help a lot in render speed
