Now it just goes back into making more cosmetics for money. I have absolutely no issue with in game optional paid cosmetics. But when all your manpower is going to that and not the actual game it becomes an issue.
That's why people are so pissed with Bungie. They claim it's too expensive to make maps or new armor sets yet the eververse store has 3 new armor sets a ton of exotic ornaments, new ships, ghosts and sparrows every single season.

The cons with live service games far outweigh the pros. Now instead of getting 3 to 4 maps a season and 6 weapons we get one map and 3 weapons because they have to spend manpower making microtransaction skins. And they have to look better than the base shit in game because otherwise why would you buy it.

I wouldn't say that much manpower is directed away from base development, the team who work on cosmetics would be specialised in that field, they'd be actual costume designers, concept artists and modellers who specialise in the character design domain. You won't have the person designing the blue skin for the ak 12 working on remaking hourglass. There may be some overlaps if you have someone working on a 3D portion of a new skin, since they could be utilising that work on models like armour pieces, but even then that work would be redundant because there's no reason to develop more armour pieces when no new specialists are coming

Like 2042 was designed around microtransactions. They literally added operators with the entire intention of selling skins. They did it over the balance and health of the game and quite literally turned the game into something it wasn't purely to sell skins. It's stupid. Profit was put over every other aspect of the game.
