While 2042 had a very deliberate story, most players today aren’t really concerned with non-interactive storylines in games, hence I think war stories would be ideal for conveying the story more readily and exhaustively.

Just reboot the whole franchise. Aka no connection from a new game to any past games (Story/characters wise).

Simply title it "Battlefield".

Make it a classic Battlefield with classes, class specific weapons and gadgets, combined arms combat...a shit tonne of maps, premium with DLC map packs...but implement the premium system from BF4...where players in your party could play the maps you own.

Reintroduce social features like platoons, larger squad lobbies (8 player parties, which split into 2 squads in-game in a server). Needs to have core things like a server browser, persistent servers/lobbies with map rotations, but also have the option for quick match (Basically what we have with AOW right now)
