Depends on what you're doing in them. If you're just a random rifleman then yeah, you only need to be able to press RMB/LMB and WASD. However, as we were talking of milsim games, things get far more complicated and difficult in some specialties.

Well, yeah, it's literally just pressing LMB in practically every game, that requires zero skill whatsoever regardless of what game you're playing, but I personally feel like having that be the only criteria is rather ridiculous when talking about overall game difficulty.

obviously it's not. I just can't see what skill there is in killing someone in a game where everyone dies in one shot most of the time. Sure, that happens in other games but generally when you kill someone in one shot in say, CS:GO, you have to aim better and hit the head to do so.

The depth comes from different systems in those examples. In battlefield the process of shooting is simplified so less time is spent on decisionmaking, which leads to faster gameplay. A game like arma where you can’t reliably strafe while shooting forces you to find that position, ready your stance, deduce where to aim to hit the target. It slows down the pace an awful lot but the skill in Arma comes from performing all those steps quickly

In the specific software I am using as reference you would have to either approximate or measure the distance and wind with a fair amount of certainty which you can't do by just pressing a magical "spot"-key.

so it's not exactly reliable

I've partaken in quite a few PvP scenarios in Arma 3 (usually circa 30v30) with the ACE3 mod enabled and cranked up to 11, but I will admit that most of the time you are playing PvE because, let's face it, Arma 3 is dogshit performance-wise and having larger scale PvP events is practically impossible.

Exactly this. I enjoyed milsim games quite a lot (8200h of Arma 3) but my god I do not want Battlefield to be that detailed. Battlefield is much more casual and accessible for the average player and the faster pace and overall tempo is something I like about it.

I seem to recall hearing a rumor which may or may not be true about DICE having difficulties introducing new employees to the Frostbite engine because the core developers had moved on from DICE.
