I have been playing Battlefield by gaming history since Bad Company 2 and I played 125+ hours of that. Also played a lot of BF3 and BF4. Skipped BF1 and BF V as they didn't hold my interest as much as the previous 3 games did. Came back with BF 2042 after I patiently waited a year for EA/DICE to get the game playable/stable/enjoyable. In its current state? While there's still work to be done they've accomplished this feat in my mind.

Battlefield campaigns to me always feel like such solo experiences. Which is weird. Thereā€™s rarely any missions with like big battles with tons of AI and shit. Yet COD used to do stuff like that all the time.

The only one I can really think of is the beginning of The Runner in BF1. And even then, that beach storm still felt like a solo experience.

I donā€™t think they should try to tell a compelling story based on just characters. Theyā€™ve done it before, and Iā€™d say it failed more than it worked. I think it would make more sense to tell a story about the entire battle. The people in it. The sheer size and spectacle. Show it from multiple fronts. Different people.

I mean compare like the March to the Reichstag in World at War, to basically ANY battlefield campaign. How is it that mission feels more Battlefieldy than like any battlefield mission.

I havent played BF much to be able to express my opinion, and most would probably disagree.

I think BF is more about the experience itself of being in a real war rather than a simulated teamdeath match (cod as reference). Ive seen plenty of footage of BF, and its cinematics aswell as aesthethics that attracted me. You feel more immersed in a 'real war' than anything else. So i kinda agree on your perspective
