But what gets me is that it's removing a constraint. It's not removing a bonus like killstreaks, or a mechanic like TF2 dominations, it's removing something that actively limits what you can do in the game. I don't get why it's such an important thing to how the game feels. And nobody has given me a good answer.

The ideal of "it encourages teamwork" doesn't really count because it's just that. An ideal. I'm fairly confident nobody in the room can actually prove that classes had a real effect on whether the members of a team acted as one. To me the only thing that made that so was the mindset the players had going in. And in that case, you'd go to special servers for it. Which admittedly was a lot easier in older titles because you kinda had to with the server browser, especially now. But 2042 focuses heavily on predefined playlists with matchmaking, which makes it especially hard to coordinate with the team because odds are nobody really cares too much. It's a dice roll essentially.
