Movement wise, yes, BFV is better than the games that came before it, except BFV didn't have air strafing. But gunplay wise, in my personal opinion it's a downgrade for one simple reason. They added random recoil. BF4 didn't have that, it had bloom and no visual recoil.

I’ll admit it’s the first I’ve heard of it, the barrel will move around when you stop moving the tank itself and do a little jolt, and when turning it will follow the tank, but it moving by itself isn’t something I’ve seen before. Best to make a bug report on the forums alongside a YouTube link

Unless the AM40 cuts a middle ground between the two weapon classes perfectly, there's no real reason to use it. And even then, an argument can be made to just use the right tool for the job rather than a jack of all trades
