This is a good point. Epic is actually on working on this very thing, effectively AI managed voice chat. To your point however, the original discussion was about the ability to organize. We don't need voice chat in game to do that, we need either a server browser, or team and squad controls. Modern DICE appears to think this is "inappropriate teaming". I have never once heard this phrase before and it is pathetic.

Community servers weren't just about the community itself. They also served public players, as in, the entire playerbase by letting them vote on maps or enforcing the rules they wanted. Often, less was more, but they came to community servers because even if they didn't want to be directly involved, they enjoyed the higher level teamwork. The server was always up, so it was easy to jump in and out whenever. Portal is unfortunately not that easy.

No, and many of us were warning the community that was a bad change back then too, BF1, the game no one asked for. The server system back in BF1942 through BF4 was already good, it just needed improvements. Instead, they took more away. Community servers that had players 24/7 took time to get consistently populated. The good thing about Portal is the way if handles downtime, the bad thing is it makes it difficult to find the experience you want. Portal has the right idea, not wasting server downtime, it's execution is just a bit poor and new to everyone. Keep in mind, most players were pub players, just the regular playerbase.
